    Hello and welcome back for another Age of Empires 2 civilization match up discussion! This is a series where we discuss the various advantages, disadvantages, and quirks found within the numerous match ups of the game. The goal is to collectively gain a deeper understanding of how two civilizations interact with each other in a variety of different settings. Feel free to ask questions, pose strategies, or provide insight on how the two civilizations in question interact with each other on any map type and game mode. This is not limited to 1v1 either. Feel free to discuss how the civilizations compare in team games as well! So long as you are talking about how the two civilizations interact, anything is fair game! Last week we discussed the Incas vs Portuguese, and next up is the Turks vs Vikings!

    Turks: Gunpowder civilization

    • Gunpowder units +25% hp; gunpowder techs cost -50%; Chemistry free
    • Gold Miners work +20% faster
    • Scout-line +0/+1 armor
    • Light Cavalry and Hussar upgrades free
    • TEAM BONUS: Gunpowder units created +25% faster
    • Unique Unit: Janissary (Powerful general-purpose hand cannoneer)
    • Castle Age Unique Tech: Sipahi (Cavalry Archers +20 hp)
    • Imperial Age Unique Tech: Artillery (Bombard Towers, Cannon Galleons, and Bombard Cannons +2 range)

    Vikings: Infantry and Naval civilization

    • Warships cost -15% in Feudal and Castle Age, -20% in Imperial Age
    • Infantry +10/15/20% hp in Feudal/Castle/Imperial Age
    • Wheelbarrow, Hand Cart free
    • TEAM BONUS: Docks cost -15%
    • Unique Unit: Berserk (Powerful infantry that slowly regenerates hp)
    • Unique Unit: Longboat (Nimble galley-like warship that fires multiple arrows at once)
    • Castle Age Unique Tech: Chieftains (Infantry +5 damage to cavalry)
    • Imperial Age Unique Tech: Berserkergang (Berserks regenerate hp more quickly)

    Below are some match up-specific talking points to get you all started. These are just to give people ideas, you do not need to address them specifically if you do not want to!

    • So for 1v1 on open maps, Vikings are generally considered pretty good due to their excellent economy and access to FU Arbs and Siege Rams, whereas Turks have mostly been shunned due to their lack of versatility when it comes to trash units. However, Turks have been buffed a little while back, and it does seem like their extra tanky scouts can somewhat carry them through early Castle Age. Is that enough to get them to Imperial Age vs Vikings, where Turks will finally be able to have a big advantage?
    • As a flank civ in a team game, Vikings are generally considered quite good, if not top-tier due to their very strong eco and good Arbs/Rams, but lacking any more relevant military bonuses or strong late game units. Turks, meanwhile, are very much a beneficiary of the recent cav archer buff, which could potentially help get them to a late game HCA/Siege Ram/Cannon combo. Do you think it would be possible for Turks to get cav archers up and running if they were paired up against Vikings?

    Belgian professional cyclists playing AoE2 on national tv

    Yves Lampaert and his fellow professional cyclist teammate Tim De Clercq are known to be AoE2 enthousiasts, as they were guest players on Viper's Twitch a couple months ago. Belgian national tv is following Yves Lampaert in the weeks before the biggest cycling races of the year (mainly Paris-Roubaix). At some point we see how they wind down after a day of training: some good olde' AoE2!

    Ok so maybe that's a slight exaggeration, but let me explain: I just beat the moderate AI with a scout rush build order on Arabia... now this might seem like a very easy thing to do, but I can assure you, it's the most stressful thing I've gone through all week. It's the first build order I've learned and yes, it was extremely sloppy, and boy howdy were my hands shaking while I was sending scouts into the AI's base while (trying to) keep my economy going all at the same time. But the moment the AI resigned it was the best feeling in the world. A feeling of orgasmic proportions.

    Today I conquered the moderate AI... Tomorrow, the World.

    While I enjoy a lot watching games for Hidden Cup, I find 2h+ BO7 matches too long for me to keep up with the rest of my daily life.

    Do you know if T90 will do a curation of the best games like he did for the first round of qualifiers ? (the Persian Douche was awesome o.O)

    I want kids to compete in aoe2 in grade school and for it to carry the same aura of mainstream acceptability. I want people to write thick hardcover books analyzing AoE theory. I want bombastic 80's WWE style intros for AoE tournaments where each player enters the ring surrounded by beautiful women and for the loser to get his spine broken.

    OK maybe not that last part.

    AoE2 has suddenly stopped working for me. It used to work fine but now everytime I play the game it freezes and crashes early on in the game (usually during feudal and before castle age). Anyone experiencing the same. Any ideas on how to fix it?

    Issues with stutters during campaigns

    I'm having issues with AoE2:DE. When I play a campaign mission (but not a skirmish), every half a minute to minute the screen will lock up with exception of the mouse cursor. This doesn't happen in skirmishes, and my fps is sat at rock-solid 144fps otherwise. Has anyone else experienced this? I have a R5 2600x, a 1660Ti, and 16GB of ram, so I think spec-wise I should be fine.

    Random aoe tip of they say

    I jus found out after messing with my hotkeys that when ever u get attacked. Build a new building research a tech pretty much any thing we're the game sends a notification. There's a hot key that will take u to that exact location. I use the hd set so it's set to clicking in the mouse wheel for me
