Future of the expansions for this game

Future of the expansions for this game

I'm not among those excited about a US civ, but I think here are a few things that we need to have on mind:

    1. Designing a new civ in AOE3 is much more difficult and require much more work than any other AOE game.
    2. We're only six months since the release of DE.

I suspect we might not expect any addition of high quality at the moment. Even for AOE2 DE, where you only need to design one or two unique units and two techs for each civ, it took the dev teams a year to release a DLC with two civs.

So the reason they're adding US is probably because they have most of the assets ready, and it's easy and quick work. I'll be most hyped if they announce Africans or Italians, though, but we're not probably having them this early.

If the devs can give us a hint of future plans I'd be happy with that. Maybe we'll have the African dlc another six months later (I mean, why not? They even have music for them).

BTW there are still two mysterious items in the steamdb right now.

How are the Americans supposed to be unique? And will they keep their revolutionary units?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2021 07:03 PM PDT

They look, and play like the British in most scenarios and in the campaign. In real life they were just separated from the British, and basically was their child. I don't understand how America will be unique and fun.

I don't want a filler civ that plays exactly like the French/British, Nor do I want a Civ with factory houses.

ALSO: New civs often came in batches, Inca and Swedes, Japan China and India. It will only make sense if it comes with a partner civ (Italy)

What will be the theme of the DLC?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2021 01:46 AM PDT

My bet is on Ethiopia, USA and Italy. Usually xpacks has been released with 3 civs.

For an African xpack, 1 or 2 civs would be lackluster, so I think that they will go with some kind of general theme.

-Rising nations? (Italy unification, formation of USA?)

-Resistance against empires? (USA against Brits, Ethiopia, IDK nothing about Italy unification)

United States DLC in the works.

    Posted: 02 Apr 2021 01:55 PM PDT

    Hear ye! Hear ye!

There is a new dlc in the works for us, the Age of Empires III community.

No, you are not reading it wrong.

    No, you are not dreaming.

    It is actually happening.

The devs actually remembered our small community and they are graciously feeding us some bread crumbs and stale water to keep us going.

    Oh praise the devs!

For one, I welcome more content to this game. I am curious to see how people will receive The United States as a new civilization.

How do you guys feel about this?

    O Say Can You Seeeeeeee

    Is China Bad?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2021 11:00 PM PDT

I have not touched Age of Empires realistically since me, my brother and dad all played LAN when it came out so I am trying to figure out who I like to play. I like the way China plays but I get the sneaking suspicion that is poopy. The units feel pretty bad, continue to feel bad even after town hall upgrades and are hard to make in decent numbers. Additionally buildings like the Summer Palace which are more expensive than something like the Dojo that the Japanese yet It feels a lot slower.

When I play China nothing I do feels particularly powerful. I am willing to admit I am pretty bad at the game but I don't get the same feeling when playing some of the other civs.

    Best civ for a tech-focused boom/turtle player?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2021 01:26 PM PDT

Bought the game (DE) a few to ago and just played through all the campaigns, but now that I'm looking to get into regular play I don't know where to start.

The strategy that I enjoyed the most was to use my home city cards to fill out my army with ranged infantry while focusing my economy on forts and unit upgrades so that by the time late game rolled around, I'd have an army loaded with fully upgraded musketeers and skirmishers, usually backed up with falconets for extra punch and light cavalry to take care of enemy artillery. Add in some mortars for siege damage and you had a combo I really liked playing.

India worked pretty well in this regard in the campaigns (Sepoys & Gurkhas + siege elephants), but I know the campaigns are a lot different than regular play, so i came here for suggestions.

EDIT: also suggestions for multiple civs are welcome, since I'm not one for playing the same civ 100% of the tme.

I made a tier list template

Feel free to use this, I'm not great at building the lists themselves but thought we really needed a nice looking tier list template that's maintained and kept up to date :)

Do you think that there could be a Chance to Add Customization Features to Other Civs?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2021 01:18 PM PDT

When Definitive Edition came up, I was expecting to see customizations for other civs as well but they are still only active for European civs (Ottomans might be an exception). Do u think there could be a new DLC that could add the customization of home cities for other civs too? Because that would be great imho.

    Crash

    Posted: 02 Apr 2021 12:41 PM PDT

Played a 5 way 30 min ffa yesterday where i was destroyed as Otto Hungary by a dutch player. I cockroached with 10 vills and kept trying to rebuild in other bases but kept getting chased down by this dutch player who proceeded to kill off everyone else including a french and brit player tag team. As the brit and i were the last two (i had 8 vills and a small base) the game crashed after an hour.

Nothing to add, just a small summary of a fun game

    Completely disappointing

    Posted: 02 Apr 2021 12:54 PM PDT

There were so many fascinating countries during the colonial period, but the fact that the United States emerged really disappointed me.

2age in US was British. They are wondering how to describe this. Also, it seems clear that this will be a copy of the new European civilization that succeeded Sweden.

They seem to be making NE, not making AOE3.
