    Javanese spearman is a joke

    Posted: 07 Apr 2021 02:58 AM PDT

You are better if you send your settlers into attack rather than revolt to Indonesia and turn them into Javanese spearmans. Settlers with Great coat and Blunderbuss market upgrades have more hitpoints (202 vs 200) and melee attack (13 vs 8) than javanese spearman. And settler also have ranged attack of 6 with 16 range and more line of sight. The only advantage of spearman might be speed, multiplier against cavalry and siege attack.

More than 1 of the same civ

    Posted: 07 Apr 2021 01:06 PM PDT

Is there any way to set up a single player match with more than one civ. on a team?

    E.G. 2 x English (team 1) vs 2 x Indian (team 2) vs 1 x Indian (team 3)

I just don't get how this isn't an option?

Is Mounted Granadero the only unit in game that can friendly fire?

Is there any historical background of this setting?

Kind of funny where Fort cannon ball don't harm even it hit right on top of your unit, but a grenade can blow them up a storey height

    Struggling With Virginia Company FF

    Posted: 07 Apr 2021 07:56 AM PDT

Hello everyone. I want to detract from all the talk about the potential US civilization being added to the game and ask a bit about a British strategy. I primarily play British and Inca when going into ranked and I have been improving my game play by being more strict about mastering my build orders. The one I have been using primarily with the British is a classic Virginia company semi-FF listed here: https://no-idle-tc.com/build-orders/british/british-virginia-company-semi-ff/. I was on a four game win streak last week and then played last night and won one game and lost four until I switched to Inca and won two.

Of course you win some and lose some and I know there are cases where I certainly messed up but I am having a problem with the "adaptability" of the British. I can stop a rush but I cant seem to stop a consistent push in Age II from my opponent with them while also trying to get to Age III to get the power spike that the British need. Is this just the case of the build order or is there something I am missing in my macro play fighting it out in Age II while still maintaining a decent age up time to get the edge? Thank you in advance (and I can't wait to absolutely climb this ladder with the US whether or not they are good).

    Attacking buildings vs units

    Posted: 07 Apr 2021 10:08 AM PDT

I have lost several games lately because I atack him in his base but half my units change their mind and rather start burning houses while getting fired at. So how should I play to avoid this? Also will this be fixed any time soon? And was it this bad in aoe3 1vs1?

Age of empires Napoleonic Era error?

    Posted: 07 Apr 2021 07:22 AM PDT

Hey guys, I have stalled here on my computer the wars of liberty mod and the napoleonic era. But wen I play the napoleonic the mod dosent work very well. The new civs are missing and the UI are from Wars Of Liberty. It's possible have the two mods intalled or I will have to choose one of them?

Does anyone else get triggered by 'gg' when they lose?

    Posted: 07 Apr 2021 06:19 AM PDT

When it has objectively been a good, close game with a lot of back and forth, I don't mind that the winner says gg first, and I'll say it back.

But in almost all other circumstances, I find it a bit condescending when the winner says "gg" first. To me it feels like rubbing it in my face, even though 99% of players probably don't mean it that way. I'd prefer that the winner just keeps quiet, so that I'm not tempted to reply something toxic and keep my dignity instead of lowering myself to arguing over luck, civ balance etc...

When I win a game, I wait until the loser says 'gg', and then I'll say it as well. That way, in case the loser is sore loser like myself, I don't fuel his anger fire. If he's not, who cares; he won so he's already stoked about that.

Anyone else sensitive about these two letters when they lose?

Interview with FE Lead Dev - Bert Beckman

Interview with FE Lead Dev - Bert Beckman

So I had a chance to sit down with lead dev of the prestigious Forgotten Empires, Bert Beckman, pictured below, to get his thoughts on the recent flak the game has been getting regarding the decision to add the "US civilization" to the game.

    Bert Beckman

Bert was a fine guest and I'm sure you'll find some of his thoughts insightful. Here is a brief excerpt as I have yet to transcribe the full thing:

KS91: Hi Bert, it is good to have you here.

Bert: Glad to be here, KS.

KS91: Now our fans have concerns regarding the US ci--

Bert: 'MURICA!!!! Errrr... I mean that information has not yet been disclosed to the public. Any speculation remains just that -- speculation. Tune in to the AOE fan preview on April 10 for a very "American" reception heh heh…

KS91: Indeed! We are all looking forward to it!

    Bert: Heh heh heh

KS91: So Bert, what was the thought process that went into choosing the next playable civ?

Bert: Well we thought big cool Americans, and $$$$$ and like, y'know, George Washington and stuff

KS91: Did you consider the historical context of the early modern era when choosing a civ?

Bert: So we did some hardcore research by watching the movie "The Patriot" and we just went from there.

KS91: Some have stated, without merit I'm sure, that the Americans don't fit the time frame. Considering the game extends from the late 15th century to the late 19th century, roughly speaking, whereas the United States was only founded in 1776.

Bert: Ah but you see, the Americans existed before then, as the colonists in the thirteen colonies.

KS91: Wouldn't they be considered British first? Or even one of the many other ethnic groups that settled in the colonies such as the Dutch and Germans?

    Bert: No

    KS91: Why not?

Bert: I don't understand the question

KS91: If the British colonists were "American" prior to 1776, what does that make the British settlers when you play as the British in the Carolina map?

    Bert: They are American.

KS91: Any thoughts as to adding the Italians?

Bert: You silly goose, Italy wasn't unified until 1870. I learned that from wikipedia! Durrrrr

    KS91: .....

    Bert: Durrrrrr
