The mods heard your cries; user flairs are being rolled out!

    Posted: 27 Apr 2021 07:29 AM PDT

About a week ago /u/theelouddog posted a thread asking for flair that showed Civilizations. I read this and figured I'd have a crack at it, and the mods here were equally willing to let me.

I've set up Civilization flairs to start.

I'm going to be adding others as time goes on.

    My current plans are for:

    • Unique Units next to the Civilization symbol (unless the community would like this as separate items.) Another potential to tack on here are the wonder building icons.

    • Standard unit symbols with name.

    • Resource symbols with name.

    • Building symbols with name.

    • Unique heroes with names.

    • Taunts with their correspoinding number entries.

    • Professional players potentially. These symbols would like be taken from their twitch logos, and would be subject to their input.

    • Other ideas as requested

    • Team Logos like GL/Tempo, thanks /u/BillBob13

Share your thoughts please. All ideas welcome.

Hurtin' on the ladder today 11

My experience after joining my first online matches (got the game earlier today)

    I take it everyday

Timeline should be grouped by teams (2468|1357 instead of 12345678), so it would be easier to see how each team did.

    Yes, I just did that.

Since MAA into archers counters scout builds, why isn't every match MAA mirrors?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2021 02:03 AM PDT

Sorry for the noob question, I'm genuinely curious why meta hasn't shifted that way

Is there a mod or trick to help notice when a farm is not being harvested from? Whenever i have to garrison my TC i feel like i leave a bunch of farms idle

When did you start playing aoe2?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 11:08 PM PDT

    I'm curious about this.

I'm using timeframes considering major releases in the aoe franchise, aoe2 HD and DE.

People who main less popular civs, make your case for your favorite.

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 05:47 PM PDT

Especially low-mid Elo players. What about then covers your weaknesses or plays to your strengths?

I will start. I am 1020 Elo. I play Malians more than any other civ.

Wood bonus that scales with economy requiring nothing from player.

Free gold mining makes an archer rush easy while putting extra vils on farms for faster castle

    every castle age tech available

Fully upgraded Farimba heavy camels are insane against cav civs. Their light cav is some of the best in the game, which is good because I sometimes float too much food in the late game.

Champskarls are great for countering meso civs which tend to include archers or skirms in their armies

Redemption monks to counter mangonels at your TC in castle.

Fast working universities allow fast bombard cannons to counter trebs in case opponent makes it up to Imp faster than you. (Happens a lot to me)

Gbeto warriors are just plain fun to use. Good at protecting trebs or bbc in surprisingly low numbers.

Unique tech that has tc's fire when ungarrisoned helps compensate for no bracer, defensively. Also incentives the creation of more tc's which I sometimes struggle with.

Who else plays scarcely picked civs for your Elo?

Does Gravy go well with pancakes?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2021 08:25 AM PDT

Was having a discussion in the early stages of a land nomad game with another user about gravy and whether it goes well with pancakes. Our teammate disconnected and the conversation was left unresolved, so I'll ask you all this very important question.

Points to consider: Maybe hollandaise could be considered gravy? That stuff is really good. Maybe waffles would be a better vessel for gravy? Perhaps. There are likely many more good points to consider.

Has anyone tried countering the extreme AI after letting it boom for about 30-40minutes?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 06:05 PM PDT

So the standard response to successfully defeating the Hardest-Extreme difficulty is to raid and put early pressure on it. I can confirm that by deploying these tactics it's most definitely the most effective way albeit kind of repetitive.

The issue I and a lot of other have is that we want to experience huge late game wars with late game techs but the moment the A.I reaches a certain point it will just SPAM units constantly with no let up. No short breaks, no "second waves" just pure unrelenting unit SPAM if you don't stop it early.

Since this is clearly by design and I don't see a change happening anytime soon, does anyone know any good tactics / unit composition that's fairy effective against the hordes of nonstop units that the A.I will produce in the late game? Has anyone had any success in repelling and defeating a very late game Extreme A.I army?

trying to make HUNTER that is practically archer. ('ve got some problems)

    Posted: 27 Apr 2021 12:34 AM PDT

    Hello,

I try to make a new unit. It should look like a hunter but it should be able to arrack enemy units. I work in Advanced Genie Editor, AoE 2 DE. I tried these methods:

    1. copying ARCHER and giving it hunter texture: Does not work. The unit still looks like an archer
    2. copying HUNTER and giving it class archer and task combat: Does work a little. Hunter can attack when u use the "stop" key, but you cannot target a specific enemy unit (click on it), the hunter only goes on that place.

    Please help me :)

Elo gain in team games - how does it work?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2021 04:08 AM PDT

Hi, I just did a 2v2 with some guy I didn't know, who didn't do much and went afk quite quickly without resigning. I tried to hold for a while, but I'm not a very good player as well, so after like 20 minutes I had to resign.

This was a ranked game, so I expected to lose some elo, but in the after game screen it said (+0) instead of (-whatever). Does anyone know why this is? Is it because my teammate went afk? Or was our combined elo just way lower than the opponents' team?

    won my first ranked 1v1

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 09:52 AM PDT

as a bit of context i have been quite upset with aoe. my first 6-7 ranked matches i get curb stomped by people doing spam/rush tactics (that i assume are ment to scare newbies like me) but i get into a match, do a fast castle, get attacked, build an army to defend. army kills literally everything, weird. might as well carry on to the enemy base. he surrenders. YYYYYYYYESSSSSSSSSSS I WON GOD DAMNIT!!!!!!!!!!. and i know its because the enemy didn't have the eco to cope, he had like 17 farms and 1 tc and i had 27 and 3 tcs. im so god damn happy. i just need to figure out how to counter those god damn rushes. cuz if i do i think id be able to climb as i understand the other parts of the game
