    MAP of AFRICA

    Posted: 23 Jul 2021 12:23 AM PDT

Devs have said that there are 15 new maps od the DLC, but in-game there are more maps on the Africa map. The map list (14/15):

    Golden Coast

    Horn

    Atlas

    Niger delta

    Chad lake

    Tassili

    Sudd

    Nile Valley

    Savanna

    Hightlands

    Pepper Coast

    Great Rift

    Darfur

But there are other regions on the map like:

    Victory lake

    Saharian Routes

    Niger River

    Ivory Coast

    Congo

    Sahel

What do you think?? Maybe a post-DLC with a 3rd civ like they did with USA??

The ‘we wuz kangz’ trolls after Africa civs announcement..

    Posted: 23 Jul 2021 02:15 AM PDT

As AOE is a history lover community, i've thankfully not seen many of these trolls, but they have unfortunately popped up here and there. I dont think people realise that Europe only really steamrolled Africa in the 1800s after the industrial revolution was in full swing. If you look at 1400-1799 of europe's interactions in africa then its clear they saw the african civs as any other civ; ones to trade, ally, and fight with. I mean the Kongolese defeated the Portoguese's conquest attempts numerous times 1400-1600. West african kingdoms defeated european attacks numerous times as well, and the Portoguese saw the Ethiopians as allies in the early colonial era.

Some of the sporadic negative reactions to the announcement just reminded me how people misapply the late 1800s to all of african colonial history.

    Civilization Overview - Ethiopia [Aussie_Drongo]

If you load up the PUP on steam you can play against the new civs in Skirmish

    Posted: 22 Jul 2021 04:49 AM PDT

Do you think there should be an AOE 2+3 2v2 biathlon?

    Posted: 22 Jul 2021 09:47 AM PDT

The aoe2 and aoe3 communities being relatively isolated, which I find to be a shame, it would be nice if some event brought the two communities together.

2 player teams (no subs), one who's great at aoe2 and another specialising in aoe3, and the win condition for each set is advantage 2 (if it were Bo5 you'd often have an uneven amount of age 2 and age 3 games and it would be unfair, if it were an even number you'd risk a tie).

Qualifying could be done by converting ELO to ladder percentile and adding the sum of one player's aoe2 percentile plus the some of the other's aoe3 percentile. The highest sum get assigned seed 1, 2 etc all the way down to 16, or 8 if you want to keep it simpler.

Skirmish/random map game modes, no pure water maps for better accessibility, and at least two co-casters from each game at all times - reinforcing the expert/noob dynamic. An aoe2 caster doesn't quite know what aoe3 players don't know about aoe3 and vice-versa, so the co-caster from the other game can always ask questions from a noobier standpoint and the resident expert can give an adequate answer.

This could potentially bring a substantial prize pool, especially for aoe3 which has a smaller competitive scene. From Microsoft's perspective, it would be great to encourage players from both communities to try out the other game.

What do you think? Would you watch this tournament? Do you think it would be good for both games? Do you think it could succeed in terms of funding, player participation and

    us balance brainstorm

    Posted: 22 Jul 2021 10:02 PM PDT

regulars cost to 75F 25G. base range decreased to 12 but +1 with veteran and guard upgrade, for 14 total. (Regulars are actually decent aside from their high gold cost. )

state militia speed decreased to 4.0, armor decreased to 0.25, wood cost lowered to 30w .

sharpshooter: + 1 range with imperial. long rifle now also provide +2 range. (26 total)

Carbine cav armor increase to .20, base hp increase to 190, buffalo soldier now also increase hp by 25%. (427.5 hp after imperial and card)

Louisiana purchase now only spawn 6 buffalo for already constructed town center.

California gold rush reworked: spawn 5 villagers at the town center, plus 1 for each remaining coin mines on the map. (this card is one of the best in game, but admittedly I am a bit short on ideas)

[Rant] There are Old World civilizations are connected to Africa then why they dont get new features (except for mercenaries) in next DLC?

    Posted: 22 Jul 2021 04:59 PM PDT

Ottomans: Sudan, Egypt, Somalia, Barbary Coast

    British: Half of Africa

And they didnt even added Italians (important in Ethiopian history)

    French: Haiti Revolution

Why old world civilizations didnt get any new content? I just played PUP (and I pre-ordered the DLC) and I got disappointed. Considering how Ottoman-British Egypt fought Sudanese Dervish (then called Mahdists), adding no new African content to neither British or Ottomans is just... weird.

And yes, Ethiopians and Somalians were like arch enemies of East Africa but there were also Italians who wanted to conquer Ethiopia and failed. Adding, at least some, Italian related content would be cool.

And since the first release of DE, most disappointing was Haitian Revolution option for French. Even though it is an Afro-Caribbean revolt, it is portrayed as if it was a pirate revolt. Maybe African update would solve it and then here we go, it was same.

The implication of Congo Basin and the way DLC is just focusing Upper Saharan and Saharan Africa implies a future more extended DLC for other nstions but I still got, even though a little bit, disappointed.

African civ hype (and just talking in general about my thoughts)

    Posted: 22 Jul 2021 04:24 AM PDT

I am SO excited to get my hands on these civs. i really dug my heels into united states and i wanna give them a try. I'm most excited about the housa, although the Ethiopians INCREDIBLY weird unique units is something ill also want to try.

their heroes are really cool! they are obviously going to be integral to how the military fights as a whole, and i love their 2 unique abilities where guardians fight each other instead of you, and the REVERSE aura where other units in the aura area increase the stats of your hero!!! super cool!

etheopian units are WEIRD. by the looks of it they dont have an age 2 huss equivilent, and except for their rapujit equivalent unit and their skirmisher (and the super mortar), EVERY single unit has a ranged attack that gets faster in closer proximity, and devastating melee. EVEN THE DRAGOON UNIT!!! while they dont have age 2 huss equivilent, they DO have an age 2 dragoon, which shoots faster at closer ranges and is especially deadly against huss in melee. weirdest unit ever. and when they do get to age 3, they get a cav unit that by reading sounds like a currasier with a ranged attack AND a melee attack instead of an aoe melee one. super scary
overall, by appearances it looks like marching speed will be one of etheopias most important stats in order to close the distance, so look out for cards that increase movement speed.

lets talk about hausa! they have fast firing archers instead of skirms, available in age 2 along with the same weird dragoon unit the etheopians have. i noticed a few stand out military units in their roster:
first lets talk about the raider: AN AGE 2 OPRI EQUIVILENT?!?!?!??!?! you know they gonna be popular for rushes. multipliers against villigers and high seige, mounted on a horse, IN THE SECOND AGE!!!!!
they have an age 3 heavy cav as well, that appears to be the antithesis of the ulhan. whereas the ulhan is a cav unit with low HP and high attack making them good for raiding and catching splinter forces, the housa heavy cav has high HP and low attack, making them more like the state militia equivalent for hussars and VERY well suited to large battels when in mass, and not so much raiding. can't wait to get my hands on them

something about the hausa that does worry me though is that their musketeer equivilent is locked to the third age. there is no civ except inca (loosely) with the musketeer equivilent unit locked to the third age and it means by the time you get access to your musketeer, every other civ will be training their skirmisher equivalent unit. i am VERY concerned about the viability of these units. they better be some MONSTER musketeers

I did notice that neither civs unique units mentioned the gattling camels. what do you guys think? new mercenary unit? only available as a special unit from certain age-ups?

lastly is the palace! SUPER cool building. if i were to describe it to someone, i would only be able to describe it as a cross between a fort, saloon, consulate, and capital, likely available in the first age, definitely available in the second age. one thing is for sure, with the palace's being integril to the African playstyle, since the whole age up mechanic revolves around it, these civs will likely prove very difficult to push into early game.

what are your thoughts on the information revealed so far?

Weird lines on the ground texture

After some time of not playing I decided to start again and I have never encountered this issue before. When I am ingame, the ground textures have these weird parallel lines. I tried some settings but did not manage to get rid of them. Does anyone know what causes this issue and how to fix this?

Hyped for the african civs but

    Posted: 22 Jul 2021 05:49 AM PDT

If the devs don't fix the balance that's required amongst the civs right now then I will continue to not play because the ladder is just incredibly unenjoyable right now coming up against swede and spain or port on water that auto win after x amount of minutes or just auto win cos their op af

I'm hyped for the new content but it will be pointless if they don't address the glaring issues they have right now

    Attack move fixed?

    Posted: 22 Jul 2021 05:55 AM PDT

The new PUP update contains a lot of fixes to bugs like attack move and travois or settlers not building Trading posts. I'm interested in the results. Whats your experience with A-move? Does it work properly like in Starcraft 2 or Warcraft 3? I haven't played any RTS where A-move wasn't working properly, so the fact that this has been an issue for so long prevents me from enjoying the game.

Also, hopefully we get much needed balance changes. There are none in the new update. I would have preferred to be able to test balance changes. There are many RTS games which give players the option to test out balance changes before they go live. For some reason Aoe3 doesn't seem to use this option.

Is it Worth The Price? - The African Royals DLC

    USA discussion

    Posted: 22 Jul 2021 04:57 AM PDT

People like to claim USA is UP, but it seems very clear that they have some OP elements, such as:

they can get 13 guard uhlans for only 500f 500w by sending a shipment and are able to retrain them. Most civs that get guard unit shipments get them from the church in age 3 after sending a card and they're way more clunky (spain halbs for example), expensive, and aren't retrainable.

I really think pulaski's legion should cost at least 1000w instead of 500f 500w. I know some folks will try chiming in "uSA iS wEaK wE d0n'T hAve teH bEsT aNtiCav" ..... Seriously? USA gets big dragoon and Apache rider shipments that are affordable and can retain goons.

I'd say USA is the least fun civ to play against, I'd much rather fight Sweden or Japan which I can actually beat regularly. USA just turtles and spams factories before anyone else can get them and it's a dumb design. (I'm elo 1500 btw)
