It's getting old watching people flame Memb for talking too fast or take a piss on T90 for spending too long looking at bumping villagers. Can't we stop the fighting and just agree that Dave (David) is the best all around caster

Flemish militia units should have random sex (as villagers) on spawning

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 06:42 AM PDT

When players convert villagers to militia by tech - they can be male or female and also has different models for each sex. But when we're creating Flemish militia in town center - there is only male units. That makes me sad personally, cos female voice line of Burgundian's villagers just so awesome <3

Show stats when selecting groups of units?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 05:19 AM PDT

What do yall think of showing stats, like attack/defense when you select a group of units the same way it shows as you select a single unit?

Or if you select 10 lumberjacks itd show the total wood those lumberjacks are carrying the same way it does when you select a single vil?

Itd make you much less likely to play the entire castle age without noticing you never researched bodkin or wheelbarrel for example? Im sure itd be a bitch to program but would that be something yall would in theory support? Or is it similar to the range display on towers where it kinda defeats a fundamental aspect of the game?

Im so sick of the disparity in the 1000-1100 range

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 09:24 PM PDT

I win exactly 50% of my games. Which, when you say it like that sounds like I'm perfectly balanced and everything is great. But in this range it one of two experiences. Either the person I'm playing with seems like they've never played the game before, or I'll encounter players with more than 500 games who utterly destroy me. I can't improve because every time I win I steamroll my opponent in 10-15 minutes people, and every time I lose I get absolutely wrecked. I have almost never had an Imp battle, and very seldom is it competitive. Does anybody else experience this?

Saracens market abuse is awesome on empire wars

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 08:48 AM PDT

Making archers as usual in RBW style EW, you can click up at 2:30 with a little market abuse, constant double range archers and clicking crossbowmen at just over 5 mins. Gives you a pretty good early power spike. Surprised it wasn't seen in RBW.

40 years ago today was a historic moment for computer strategy gaming

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 06:33 AM PDT

Gather round and let me share with you the story of Eurisko.

July 4th 1981. The US championship for the Traveller RPG was underway. For the previous 2 weeks a room full of the most advanced computers of the day had crunched over the Traveller ruleset. And the computers found a strategy that was just plain weird. But it worked and it completely annihilated. If you are curious for details about strategy check out this.

Eurisko was something new. It wasn't just a computer playing a game. Or a computer beating a human at a game. Even in 1981 those were old hat. For example computers could play checkers in 1959 and beat a master in 1962.

This didn't play the game. It solved the meta. Not only that but it understood how its own strategy worked and included 2 additional layers of meta-game in case someone tried something similar.

Imagine what the technology could do now. Computers are millions of times faster. Imagine this technology applied to the AoE2 tech tree and finding optimal build orders....

Of course it needs a lot more than just the tech tree. Merely trying to predict resource gathering rates requires a fairly accurate simulation of villager pathfinding and collisions. (But that part wasn't as difficult as expected.) I'll be posting occasionally whenever I come across something real good ^_^

On rotting deer, sheep, and boar: how to prioritize?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 09:43 PM PDT

Suppose I cleanly open with 6 on a sheep, and proceed to put four on wood. With my scout I push a deer to my TC and assign three villagers, and after house-mill-berries, I proceed to pull the boar as I've seen so many times before. But while pulling, one of my idiot villagers decides that I'm the idiot for not shift-Qing, and decides to teach me a lesson by mercing a sheep while I'm pulling. I kill the boar with the group of villagers, but now I have 7(ish) food villagers, a partial deer carcass, a fresh sheep carcass, and a fresh boar carcass.

With 7(ish) hunters under my TC, what is the optimal way to gather these resources?

    Sheep Harvesting- suggested improvement

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 09:03 PM PDT

    The Problem-
Given that sheep decay after a brief booping its very frustrating when a villager goes off to boop another sheep when your sheep harvesters are working on one already or when villagers complete a sheep and split up to boop two sheep. The rally point or shift-click task system in DE definitely helps with this issue yet with the process of taking villagers off sheep and getting to added to sheep (especially from TC) it can be quite difficult to keep track of which ones are set to go after the next intended sheep and which ones will go a booping. Worst of all, sometimes a villager doesn't path to the designated sheep (insufficient space to harvest usually) and thus decides to go boop another sheep as its original directive has been deemed impossible. I know AoE2 has a lot of micro management and that is part of its soul that we don't want taken away (IE houses/pop cap), but I don't feel like this fits into that category and when we have automatic farm reseeding and even auto scouting options, I wonder if there might be room for improvement here.

    Proposed Solution-
A boolean or if/then code that would go something like "If there is a decaying sheep within eyesight, then the villager will not automatically boop a sheep". Obviously if you wanted to have two groups of villagers harvesting two sheep this would still be possible and this really wouldn't affect the current sheep management as I see it.

Curious to see what people think! Of course I might be over looking a coding impossibility, but I thought hussite war wagons would be impossible to encode and where we are.
