Posted: 03 Jul 2021 12:41 PM PDT Since DE has been released, the player base increased in an enormous ammount. It's far easier to get a match, and the whole system seems to be working better than in the good old days when we played AD. However, there's one thing that makes me cringe every single time I notice it: the devs in charge of DE seem to have been aoe2 people, because every single change they made to the game seems to make it feel "closer" to it's long lost brother. Let me explain. From the sounds involving specific buildings (the sound of the fort being similar to the one castles made in aoe2 and the sound of the windmill being literally the same as the one in aoe2), to the unnecesary tech tree and so on, devs seem to be trying to make this game look like an aoe2.5. I get that they're trying to appeal to aoe2 players in order to make more sales, and that this are minor changes, so, while I still cringe every single time I build a windmill, I let it go. However, the true deal breaker comes from changes to playability, just for the sake, it seems, of making it closer to the aoe2 experience. Here comes a personal story. I love doing naval boom, I'm among the few players who truly enjoys ships in this game, and the idea of a focused naval eco strat is genious to me. Of course I have a deck for naval boom, and within said deck I have the enhanced gold mining from whales. But, for some reason, every single map introduced in DE doesn't have whales. I mean, what's the point? Is it more important for the devs the will to try and make this game look similar to aoe2 than make it playable? If I wanted to play aoe2, I would just go and play aoe2, not an aoe2.5. Do you think this changes make the game better? The sounds, the unnecesary tech tree, the whales, changes to the ui, etc?
