One game I get crushed without any chance and the next game I play a guy that doesn't take his boar or even extra sheep and ignores the blacksmith completely and then says he's reporting me for whatever reason is worth to report. 😄

What are your Bohemian army combination?

For having frail cavalry, will you still need to make them?

    Mongol hussar got buffed

    Mongol hussar got buffed

    https://preview.redd.it/89g54qandsj71.png?width=1559&format=png&auto=webp&s=47378115b2024a107aff4dc19acef78e85cd9610

Have you noticed that mongol hussar now have 118 hp with full upgrades? They always had 117 hp, since the conquerors expansion released the year 2000.

Seems like they changed the calculations of the hp of the units and nobody noticed.

The calculation of the hp goes as following:

    75 (base hp) * 1.3 (bonus) + 20 (bloodlines) = 117.5

The game always had floating point numbers as hp, but are always rounded down in the display.

Keep in mind that the game rounds numbers down because they die if their hp drops from 1 (they die even at 0.5 hp, for example).

I already tested if this also applies to other units like the viking infantry (they have extra hp), with a variety of infantry units, and it does only work somethimes.

An elite berserk has 62 base hp. In the scenario editor they had:

    1. Dark age: 62hp
    2. Feudal: 68 hp
    3. Castle: 71 hp
    4. Imperial age: 75 hp

If you make calculations, their hp should go as following:

    https://preview.redd.it/3ukfprc1isj71.png?width=313&format=png&auto=webp&s=2e413fa53bd09abde2f869cad6c7294cf789c8e2

In other words, a viking e-berserk should have 74 hp displayed in the screen, but somehow they have 75. My hypothesis is the following:

Viking berserks have 62.5 hp? calculations show that:

    https://preview.redd.it/8hq16x92isj71.png?width=313&format=png&auto=webp&s=fd01ba11a2399d00590755358d2bfd365a234d3b

Which would mean that the internal mechanics of the game haven't changed, instead I'd say that hussars got buffed. They have now 75.5 hp. I don't have external programs to edit aoe or see the real numbers though.

But there's something I'm sure of, and that is that mongol hussars got buffed.

Too many Cavalry Civs in AOE2 right now?

    Posted: 26 Aug 2021 12:14 PM PDT

Out the past 8 civs added to the game, 7 of them have solid Calvary bonuses and gameplay (except for bohemians). Surely there is an imbalance here....?

I can see that they want to add civilizatioivsns that will fit into campaigns that are already in the game but surely that means we just keep getting Eastern European civs who are nearly always cavalry based?

I wish there would be more Archer Civs than just Britons, Mayans, Vietnamese, Saracens and Ethiopians (plus Vikings but they have no archer bonus).

Or more Infantry Civs- there seems very few Civs that are successful with the swordsman line. Maybe this is just that infantry (excluding the halb- line) have been very weak in the current meta.

What are your thoughts about this?

    My top beginner friendly civs

    Posted: 27 Aug 2021 08:40 AM PDT

I have been playing DE casually for the last six months. I have tried different civs to find out which require the least effort to do well. While a lot depends on whether the map is open or closed, I found a few that have comparatively easier transitions. They also do not need much microing, just let the units do their thing.

They are not present in the usual top civ lists from the pros (Vikings, Chinese, Aztecs, Malay, Teutons). Those have much more diverse tech trees and better strategies, however they require perfect timing in eco/military upgrades and unit transitions to find the right balance, which I find difficult to pull off as a casual player.

What are some others that I should try? I think Mayans and Magyars have potentials, but haven't been successful personally.

    Franks (no price for guessing)

    1. Free farm upgrades mean you only need to focus on wood upgrade.
    2. Throwing axeman perfectly accompany knights to counter pikes.
    3. Cheap castle makes super easy to defend early pressure.
    4. Lots of others Franks niceties.
    5. My standard composition:
    • Vills: 40 food + 40 wood + 20 gold + 5 stone
    • Army: 30 knights + 30 axeman + 35 halbs/skirms

    Turks

    1. Free hand cannon, hussar, without needing to worry about military upgrades.
    2. Prefer standard fast castle, boom to imperial. Fast imp sounds tempting but doesn't feel beginner friendly. Needs lot of micro and if initial push fails, pretty much out of luck.
    3. Since both HC and Hussar need food, just focus on farms.
    4. Only need HC and hussar armour upgrade. Attack upgrade can wait.
    5. My standard composition:
    • Vills: 60 food + 20 wood + 25 gold
    • Army: 60 hand cannons, 30 hussars, 5 bombard cannons. (Seems to have solid Cavalry Archers, but personally don't like to micro )

    Khmer

    1. No building needed to age up, super fast castle.
    2. Create huge economy in castle age and focus on scorps + halbs. Shreds everything that comes on the way.
    3. Just update infantry armour and attack for the halbs.
    4. My standard composition:
    • Vills: 30 food + 40 wood + 30 gold + 5 stone
    • Army: 60 scorpion, 35 halbs

    Goth

    1. Huskarrrrllllssssss.... at <1k elo, people don't know how to handle the spam.
    2. Fast castle, create a defensive castle, create 5 huskarls, boom behind.
    3. Only need infantry armour and attack. No need for other blacksmiths upgrade, university, ballistics, chemeistry ...
    4. Create ~15 barracks while going to imp and complete both unique techs. You are good to go.
    5. My standard composition:
    • Vills: 50 food + 30 wood + 20 gold
    • Army: 70 huskarls + 40 halbs. Only issue is if enemy has better infantry like Samurai/Jaguar warrior/Teutonic knights. Then forget huskarls and try with hand cannons.

Strategies for Poles on Arena? I don’t ban or favourite any maps so sometimes I get arena, I typically do other civs on arena and do fairly well. I tried poles and got smashed hard.
