The Joan of Arc campaign, scenarios 3,5 and 6 are perfect for unorthodox tactics. (Possible part 1/3)

    Posted: 21 Aug 2021 07:59 AM PDT

I am a very low ELO player. Its hard for me to do micro managing as well as keep track of resources. That is why I always have to resort to using unorthodox methods. Here is how I beat the Joan of Arc campaign a year back:

Scenario 3: The Cleansing of the Loire | Age of Empires Series Wiki | Fandom :

When I first started, I immediately took to building my docks and fortifying the starting island with palisade walls. I made several war ships and started controlling the river. I made sure my ships would patrol and make sure no enemy docks were built, putting me in control of the only route to my base. After that was done, I sent out several waves of cavalry units to take out the Burgundy. I believe it took roughly 3 transport ships worth of mostly knights (im that bad). Any units that survived were sent out to roam and locate the castles.

Around the time I had my own castle, I had depleted the 3 islands on my side of the river of resources. I sent a dozen villagers across the western part of the river to gather wood and secured them with several layers of walls as well as my warships. After making sure they wouldn't fully cut the forest and let in the Brit troops by building palisade in front of the last strip of trees separating the former Burgundy base and the villager landing site, I let them remain there to gather wood for the rest of the scenario. I would sell some of the wood to obtain other resources as well as stock up on gold.

In order to destroy the three castles, each time I used a transport ship full of petards as well as one with knights. The knights would distract enemy units while the petards made a hole in the wall and blew up the castle. The attacks would last less than two minutes, from the landing until the castles were downed.

After the first, leftmost castle was done, Fastolf appeared near the middle castle and would try and intercept any transport ships I sent their way. I sent out the war ships to take him out from the water. It took 30 minutes until he and his troops died.

Eventually, after like 6 hours, the scenario was won.

I will see if you guys like hearing the experiences of low ELO players, and if you do, will continue the series with the story of how I won the Siege of Paris scenario.

    Heli's Challengers #6 - Capoch vs F1re!

    Posted: 20 Aug 2021 11:44 PM PDT

    Hey Reddit!

If you're reading this post and it's less than 2 hours old you're in luck! The 6th episode of my challenger series is kicking off at 9gmt today, streamed exclusively at twitch.tv/Helichaos. The contenders will be battling for the lion's share of the $100 PrizePool and the right to be invited back to face a future challenger!

The current reigning champion, Capoch, defeated Villese last month, and the next challenger stepping up to the plate is former Tyrant member F1re!

This series started out as purely Random Map, but with the last event coinciding with RBW4 we had an Empire Wars series. Now, with Empire Wars becoming established, I've decided that game 1 will be RM Arabia (the bread and butter), but that the players will be able to select either RM or EW maps as their home maps for this best of 5.

I look forward to seeing you there, and casting an epic set of games!

PS. The PrizePool is currently at $100 USD, if you'd like to contribute 100% of donations through my twitch until end of the showmatch will go directly to the PrizePool.

All in Feudal Scouts on New Arabia

    Posted: 21 Aug 2021 12:49 AM PDT

    1350 elo game.

I died to mass feudal scouts on new Arabia. Opponent was Vikings so it was unexpected. I believe I was Chinese.

He opens M@A so I'm thinking classic M@A archers.

I keep my scouts at home until I have about four and clean up the M@A; the plan is to hit back on the counter. Will add a range later and go scouts-skirms. After the clean up I have only one and a bit scouts left and opt not to add more scouts as I need to think about adding that range soon to not die to his archers. I send the remaining scouts forward.

Now I scouted his stable but I didn't want to accept that a Viking might do this. Anyways, I played open and having seen the stable just added some spearmen at various resources. Not much later he shows up with about 8 scouts, I have 4 spears with a few more queued up. He has full upgrades and despite me grouping up 3 of the spears, he cleans me up. More scouts stream in. It's a massacre. GG.

Next game I random Magyars and decide to try the same against an opponent. Make a good initial number of scouts and get upgrades, then clean his base. Opponent there was trying straight archers but switched into pure pike production on seeing the scout numbers. But with two stable production I kept on cleaning him up and with bloodlines and armor could even occasionally dive the TC.

My question is: from a defence perspective against this, say find yourself surprised by copious amounts of upgraded scouts and unwalled. You have half the number of spears as they have scouts. What do you do? Is it insta gg or is it salvageable?

What is the optimal reaction? Do you get spear upgrades? Do you add a second barracks?

    CRUSADER KNIGHTS

    Posted: 21 Aug 2021 05:35 AM PDT

If they were trainable units for crusader civs such as Teutons, Franks, Britons......How would they impact game what do u think. It's not written there but u Can train them at Castle.
Their stats 100HP 4/4 Armor Attack 18 Attack rate 2 Speed 1.2 Line of sight 5

You can train them at Castle for cost of 80F 50G (It's possible only trough triggers so don't know if they Castle or Imperial unit) As of now neither Civ bonus such as Franks HB bonus or Teuton Melee Armor bonus apply to them Also bloodlines does not apply to them.

My opponent just resigned sayings it's BM to pick poles they are broken.

Are they really that strong should I avoid playing them? How about bohemians?
