Civilization Match-up Discussion Round 12 Week 16: Celts vs Indians Posted: 07 Sep 2021 08:32 PM PDT A battle between two civs to see who loves the English the most! Hello and welcome back for another Age of Empires 2 civilization match up discussion! This is a series where we discuss the various advantages, disadvantages, and quirks found within the numerous match ups of the game. The goal is to collectively gain a deeper understanding of how two civilizations interact with each other in a variety of different settings. Feel free to ask questions, pose strategies, or provide insight on how the two civilizations in question interact with each other on any map type and game mode. This is not limited to 1v1 either. Feel free to discuss how the civilizations compare in team games as well! So long as you are talking about how the two civilizations interact, anything is fair game! Last week we discussed the Vietnamese vs Vikings, and next up is the Celts vs Indians! Celts: Infantry and Siege civilization
Indians: Camel and Gunpowder civilization
Below are some match up-specific talking points to get you all started. These are just to give people ideas, you do not need to address them specifically if you do not want to!
Thanks as always for participating! Next week we will continue our discussions with the Italians vs Malians. Hope to see you there! :) [link] [comments]

[Announcement] Attempting to get 39 Civ Wins in 1 Stream Posted: 07 Sep 2021 10:33 AM PDT Hello Friends, This Saturday 11th September 2021 starting at 13 UTC (6am PST), I am going to attempt to win 39 ranked matches in a single continuous stream, one win with each civilization. This is not for a charity. This is not for a subathon. This is not to break any record. This is because it's there. https://i.imgur.com/84La8V7.jpg The civilizations are currently at a very even balance. Even with the new DLC expansions and the four new civilizations, I feel that every civilization has a chance to win. I hosted a tournament called SBARRO in 2020, where players would get points for a win relative to the strength of the civilization. That was over a year ago. Now civilizations are getting closer and closer to a 50% win rate. But it's not that simple.TM Data: I am rated around 1400 in Random Map. As you would expect, I have around a 50% win rate in Ranked. My average game duration is about 30 minutes, with a tendency to loose more in the early game and win more in the late game. So quick maths will tell us that I'll average 1 win per hour and thus the stream will take 39 hours of in-game time + queue times.I will also be queuing for the Empire Wars ladder so that I can get shorter queue times and shorter games. I will favorite Nomad which is currently in the Random Map ladder since I have a 72% win rate on Nomad. I have been playing through each civilization in the ranked ladder (with random civ enabled) for the past month and have only gotten half way through the list so far! Precedent: I am not aware of anyone else attempting this in Age of Empires. Hera's subathon earlier this year lasted for 7 days of various Age of Empires content and included sleep breaks. Other AoE2 streamers have done 12 hour streams. iiTzTimmy, an Apex Legends streamer went 54 hours without sleeping to go from the bottom to the top rank in one stream. Plan: I will play through each civilization alphabetically until I get a win, and then move on to the next. I will be trying to either play completely meta for a civilization or go for all-in strategies to end games quickly. This will depend on the civilization. #itDepends I will not purposefully lower my ELO by immediately resigning, but will abandon games if I am clearly behind. The queue and starting build order will take a lot of time and I don't want to waste any games if I still have a decent chance to get a win. I don't plan on laming boars or sheep, but may get desperate 11.If I run into server issues or stream snipers, I'll just restart the queue/game and persevere! Hopefully you will have a chance to stop by. The good thing about these long streams is that no matter your time zone, you will have a chance to catch it. I think I'll need the support near the end! TL;DR: California man streams over 40 hours of Age of Empires 2 to win a ranked game with every civ. [link] [comments]

Posted: 07 Sep 2021 07:20 PM PDT No counting Bohemians or Poles. New civs usually get a few nerfs some weeks after release of the latest dlc. [link] [comments]

Any Poles build orders, fast knights? Posted: 08 Sep 2021 07:02 AM PDT Teutons and Huns have 20 knights in 20 minutes builds that work great for hideout, or with a few adjustments just about any map can churn out 10-20 knights by minute 21 with great effect. Has anyone figured out a build for Poles using their cheap knights? [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Sep 2021 06:14 AM PDT Instead of pauses being 10 pauses per player and immediate, which can be annoying when in the middle of something, how about the alternative: Total time allowed of paused gameplay per player (5 minutes), with a max of 10 individual pauses When the player presses pause, a warning displays on the screen with a countdown from 3, 2, 1 until game pause, and then the game pauses. Transaction costs for buying are lower than transaction costs for selling. Posted: 07 Sep 2021 05:05 PM PDT So the "fair price" of wood starts at 100. Transaction costs are +/- 30% of the fair price, but that actually leads to asymmetry. If you sell 100 wood, you get 70 gold. You end up getting 70% of the fair price. If you buy 100 wood, it costs you 130 gold, when you should have gotten 130 wood if transaction costs were zero. So, you are getting 100/130 of the fair price, or 77%. You get a higher percent of what is "fair" if you buy as opposed to sell. I often find myself hesitant to buy because I get scared off by the bigger numbers, but that bias in my mind is actually biasing me against doing the right thing. Mathematically, buying is a cheaper market activity than selling. I just wanted to share this realization with you guys, hopefully this will improve all of our gameplay. Yay, math! How to beat Sicilians as Goths on arabia? Posted: 08 Sep 2021 01:25 AM PDT So my understanding is that Goths are an extremely limited civ. Their cav sucks, their archers suck. Their answer to cavalry is super cheap halbs. But halbs aren't that great vs sicilian knight line. What are you meant to do? Or is this just a terrible matchup? [link] [comments]
1100 ELO… still hate luring boar Posted: 07 Sep 2021 01:22 PM PDT

Posted: 07 Sep 2021 09:07 AM PDT In tournaments like World Cup and Wololo, the 2 vs 2 matches are always knights and archers. Why no player uses the counters? Skirms and pikes? Also Ive seen very little onagers. Whats the reason? [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Sep 2021 01:09 AM PDT Just played a game against an opponent on arena. Opponent's ELO was 970. He had a castle up (not just foundation, actually fully completed) on my walls at 15:55 or so. I was going to reach castle age (27+2) around 16:30, which I'm sure isn't the best, but is somewhat standard for me. Thoughts? Was this person severely underrated? Or are Bohemians severely overpowered? Or am I just a wimp? [link] [comments]
Gunpowder units lingering smoke particles! Posted: 07 Sep 2021 08:04 AM PDT anyone know if theres a mod that makes smoke from gunpowders linger around for a while like that corpse mod? from my understanding, battles back in the day that used gunpowder filled the area with smoke like crazy [link] [comments] |
