- I want to report a warcrime.
- Hosting RBW V in a castle was great. But this is where we need to have the next Arena tournament.
- As a noob. I don't know if unlocking this was a good or bad thing.
- Campaigns by Player Color (RIP Grey)
- Have we been neglecting MAA rushes this whole time?
- Small little PSA for people playing ranked: Start with 1v1!
- I am sitting in a Cafe and a guy behind me is showing his date (??) highlights from RBW5
- What's your favourite unique unit?
- I Hate Goths . . .
- I got killed by Spanish supremacy villagers against Teuton Paladins, supposedly by The Viper
- My monk-Quarterback secureing the touchdown for the Brotherhood
- Short story - Crenellations appreciation post
- Olaf enjoying some cheeky T90, but he's mostly watching for the eagles.
- How does the Market Place map work?
- Arena game, I was Italians and went "fast imp" (19:28) into hand cannons and bbc. Blue had taken over the middle with a castle and tc. Attempted to counter with knights and skirms but wasn't enough as he was still in castle age. Apparently the concept of different strats for different maps is lost..
- Predictions on the big news Nili mentionned?
- Netiquette. AFK player
- When you lost 4 villagers in Dark Age but your counter-aggression causes so much idle time the vil lead doesn't matter anymore
- Failed to establish connection to lobby strickes again…
- Is it possible to hide or remove the buttons in the African Kingdoms/Rise of the Rajas campaign slideshows?
- Does anyone else find waiting time for ranked team games much longer after the latest patch?
- Not my video, but a throwback for anyone with the (mis?)fortune of playing against Sygrove on HD

Have we been neglecting MAA rushes this whole time? Posted: 12 Oct 2021 02:10 AM PDT I only ask because since the patch people have been leaning into the militia line a bit more and I've both won and lost a load of games with a big commitment to MAA in Feudal, which are extremely hard to stop if you/they aren't already making archers and haven't already gone onto gold. Maybe this is only at my ELO (1.2k) and falls down at higher levels but to be honest I was winning with pure MAA rushes even before this patch with Malians, and the patch doesn't actually do anything for MAA except make them more scalable. It's making me wonder whether we've been sleeping on them this whole time, and whether it's good to ignore the received wisdom sometimes! I know that they're countered hard by archers but the thing about MAA is that they hit earlier than archers and you can do a lot of damage in that window before they have any sort of mass. They go through palisade incredibly fast (if they're full walled, which they aren't always) and you only need a handful to start melting production buildings too. Obviously some civs are better for this than others (I'm 3 from 3 with Goths going double barracks full MAA into Longsword, maybe a couple of skirms here and there) but if you can get into a woodline or onto a gold pile during that crucial window before they're able to mass archers, they're in a whole lot of trouble. I know that it delays your Castle but they do so much damage that it really doesn't make much difference. I've been finding it extra effective against scout civs who aren't already planning for archers and there is maybe a certain element of surprise which will be lost as militia line become more popular, but right now I'm finding it so strong that I'm wondering what the hell I was doing before. Maybe this tapers off at higher ELOs like I say, but the vast majority of online players (like 80% iirc) are 1.2k and below so I think it's still a useful strat. Either that or it's a small sample size and I'm talking bollocks. Cheers! [link] [comments]
Small little PSA for people playing ranked: Start with 1v1! Posted: 12 Oct 2021 06:41 AM PDT begin with 1v1 at your own elo, then go to 2v2, and ⠀then on. Its easy to get lost in the team chaos but once you are reasonably confident of being able to play your game, move to 2v2. [link] [comments]

What's your favourite unique unit? Posted: 12 Oct 2021 04:54 AM PDT I starting playing AOE2 around 2 months back and still exploring different civilizations. So far I've found the Bulgarian Konnik to be the best unique unit. Which one according to you is the best unique unit? I've only played as Mongols, Indians, Bulgarians, Malians and Teutons so far. https://ageofempires.fandom.com/wiki/Konnik [link] [comments]

Short story - Crenellations appreciation post Posted: 12 Oct 2021 08:25 AM PDT Hi all! At my low level (for those who still don't know, I can only play from time to time with my brother's account. He's a little under 800 and I have a 50% WR so I guess it's the same for me), they say that anything can work, but also a good decision can ridiculously become a mastapiece. My micro is horrible. My macro is horrible. But I feel I'm not the worst strategist in the world. I have watched lots of videos from pros and not-so-pros and tips in this subreddit from better and more experienced players, and at least, I know what I want to do even if I'm bad at executing the strat. That's why I feel myself confident enough to give advise to people asking for strategies. Yesterday I had a little time to play a bit. I like to play random civ, because I have an overall very good knowledge of tech trees and the strat comes up usually very fast. So I happened to find a player who thought the same as me about playing random. I let him pick the map. And that's how we ended playing Franks (him) vs Teutons (me) in Islands. I thought it an even matchup (cav civs with no Shipwright nor Bracer), although I felt I had an eco advantage due to my low cost farms. My idea was to gain control of the water and then proceed to landing. But things don't always go as planned. Every time I massed like 10 warships (my fish were behind) he managed to sink my army. I added more docks all over my island, but he always managed to have more numbers than me, though he never managed to raid my coastline (except destroying many Docks). I always got a good demo kaboom or fire ship mass (I had given up to War Galleys) that saved me from losing a ton of vills in the coastline. He got to Imperial a bit earlier than me. Shortly after I saw the first Cannon Galleon (I had researched Town Watch/Patrol, important to avoid landings). I needed urgently a bit of gold and saw at my Market that stone prices were low. I realized for the first time that he had no intention of landing my island. He was trying to raze my island like I did 20 years ago, when I was "afraid of losing units" and starved the AI. He had massed all water units (like 12 Cannon Galleons in early Imperial + Heavy demos + Fast fire ships + Galleons). That meant to me that 1) he had spent A LOT of gold 2) he must have like 40 vills on gold - he was greedy but emptying his resources so fast. My army was composed of some Fast Fire Ships and Heavy Demos. I even thought of gg-ing because I couldn't resist that army. Until I remembered my tech tree: Crenellations (600F 400S) Castles get +3 range. Franks have no Elite Cannon Galleon. I could match their 13 range with my own 13 range Castles. Instead of building my 4th Castle I researched Crenellations (and Heated Shot!!!). With my Fast fire ships and Heavy demos (first time ever I teched into them knowing what I wanted to use them for 11) as a valuable support, he was unable to destroy more than 1 castle of the 3 that protected my coastline. And he paid a high price for it. Most of the Cannon Galleons were destroyed and, by the time I had prepared a landing on his Island (5 vills + 5 knights), he gg-ed. He had emptied from gold and stone his whole island (he had also sold the stone he had mined). I learnt that a very situational tech or bonus can be the tide changer for a AoE2 game. A good knowledge of the tech tree could scrap a win for you. It may be not a worthy lesson for a experienced player, but some newbies (especially the one who told me one of the best AoE2 jokes I've ever heard) may find this useful. Do you want to read the joke? Ok. I told him why he was going Cavalry Archers with Teutons. He answered me: "I read in Reddit that AoE2 Cavalry and Archers are meta. That means that Cavalry Archers must be still be better than both!" Have a nice day! [link] [comments]

Predictions on the big news Nili mentionned? Posted: 11 Oct 2021 01:00 PM PDT I would've guessed that it would be Memb's big tournament, but he specifically denied that on stream (said that that didn't have a "bigger impact than Redbull Wololo"), so now I'm left wondering what else there could be going on that has a clearly bigger impact than RBW5... Maybe some sort of AOE2 "league"? Anyways, damn this year is packed! [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Oct 2021 09:21 AM PDT In your opinion, how long should I wait for my opponent who paused the game without giving explanation? I have already waited 10 minutes. [link] [comments]

Posted: 12 Oct 2021 04:43 AM PDT I swear, I've been able to get rid of every other button in the game lol, but I can't get rid of those dumb things. I don't know where those buttons are in the game files, because they're not there for the original campaigns, but they're also not with the new campaign files and such. Is anyone able to offer any insight? [link] [comments]

Not my video, but a throwback for anyone with the (mis?)fortune of playing against Sygrove on HD Posted: 12 Oct 2021 01:27 AM PDT https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUtHlqJ9gjs&ab_channel=Punic_Curse My friend (Phat Sesh) got his game against the infamous HD player, "Sygrove", cast on a small youtube channel. I don't know if anyone here remembers him, but he was apparently quite the fixture on HD back in the day! [link] [comments] |
