    King of the Desert 4 Returns! Decider Matches and Quarterfinals - 3rd - 5th December

    The time has come to crown a new King of the Desert! Only 12 players remain as we head into this weekend's action. On Friday, four decider matches will determine who joins TheViper, Liereyy, MrYo and Jordan in the Quarterfinals. Will Sitaux continue his strong form against MBL? Will DauT be able to withstand the challenge from Villese? How will TaToH and Nicov do in their big showdown? And will Hera rebound from his loss to Jordan when he plays the on-form Vinchester? On Saturday and Sunday the Quarterfinals determine who goes into the tournament's final weekend! Tune in and find out!

    Schedule: This weekend's action is live from Friday 3rd December to Sunday 5th December. From 14 GMT on Friday we have the 4 decider matches of the group stage. Starting 15 GMT on Saturday and Sunday, each day two sets of Bo7 Quarterfinals will be played. All sets are played live consecutively! Brackets and full tournament information can be found at Liquipedia.

    Streaming: All games will be streamed live at twitch.tv/membtv. Memb will bring amazing co-casters and legendary observer Mapu to provide the best possible viewer experience. For the production of the tournament, Memb works with The Very Essence, part of the production team that brought you the Red Bull Wololo events!

    Having to re-invite everyone for each game is annoying + often someone accidently starts finding a match... only to then realizing, alt-f4ing and then getting hit with the ban timer.

    Unit names in other languages?

    I wasn't expecting to make this thread asking this question, but this is the sort of trivia that people here will probably love.

    I was discussing in a Discord how the English names for units are a localisation mess for other languages, based on stories I'd heard from multiple sources - usually from this subreddit. Such as the Knight line being a nightmare to translate into for the French version (apparently?), and the entire Siege Workshop being a mess for the Japanese translation.

    I was curious if anyone here could cite some particularly painful English-to-x translations that have been endured by both the localisers and the players of those languages. If anything, it should be mildly entertaining. With a side of internal screaming.

    MATH: very approximately how far/long a pikeman should be able to chase a cavarcher before it gets killed

    Cavarcher moves at 0.4 relative speed and take 5.5 seconds to fire off two shots (to avoid frame delay, thumb ring ignored by accident but wtvr it's just 11% and doesn't include frame rate), at range 6 where they will be safe to do so. To reach range 6 they need 15 seconds, plus 5.5 seconds to fire. So it's about 10 seconds per shot. They deal 8 dmg to pikes so will need 7 shots, so 70 seconds and 70 squares, to finish them. With parthian tactics it's a similar deal, just 6 shots instead.

    What's more pikes are half the cost, so practically speaking an equally sized force can chase you 2m20s / 140 squares. This is quite literally the length of the map in 1v1.

    By comparison, Xbows can just kill a pike in a 1v1, cuz they deal 24 dmg to have equal HP once the pike reaches, and have double DPS once they do, and just get better when massed.

    Cavarchers are good though, cuz while they may not be very effective counters, they don't pay a lot for their range. They're like 2/3 as good as Hussars in melee (in terms of DPS*HP), whereas Xbows are like 1/3 as good as Longswordsmen. And hey being able to flee half the map from every unit in the game on a ranged unit is pretty nice too.

    Sidenote, Longswordsmen with Squires move 0.03 faster than Xbows, so it should take 3 minutes of chasing to hit them once @_@

    Changing Unit/building stats when going to next age

    Does anyone have an overview of which units or buildings are impacted by just advancing to the next age? Ignoring any civ bonuses. The things I am aware of (thanks to the AOE wiki):

    • Scout attack: +2 in feudal
    • Scout speed: +0.35 in feudal
    • Scout LOS: +2 every age

    • Eagle Scout training time: from 60 to 35 in castle

    • Eagle scout attack: +3 in castle

    • serjeant HP: +20 in castle

    • serjeant attack: +3 in castle

    • serjeant armor: +1/+1 in castle

    • House HP: +200 in feudal, +150 in castle

    • House melee armor: +1 feudal, +2 castle, +2 imp

    • House PA: +1 every age

    • Palisade HP: +100 in feudal

    • Palisade gate HP: + 160 in feudal

    • Stone wall HP: +900 in castle

    • Stone gate HP: + 1375 in castle

    • Outpost LOS: +2 every age

    • Watch tower HP: +320 in castle

    Edit: turns out (almost?) all buildings get extra HP and armor each time you advance. But my fingers are getting too tired to type the rest.
