Strategy ideas for playing vegan. Posted: 05 Feb 2022 03:56 PM PST I've been doing a fun little challenge playing with no meat food sources, berries and farms only. So far I've only tried Teutons due to their cheap farms. Build order is: 2 houses, build a mill on berries and 7 to berries, loom then food production is high enough to keep producing with no tc idle time. Next 8 vills to wood, starting with strangles building 2 houses before lumber camp. From then I just add farms until I can go feudal. Any other ideas to improve it, is there a civ bonus that is better then cheap farms? [link] [comments]
Just realized they made a new AOE2. I'm only 3 years late. Short noob story and asking for advice Posted: 05 Feb 2022 10:19 AM PST The year was 1997 and i was 14 years old. At school video gamers were all playing Golden Eye 007. I was playing AOE. In 99 everyone else was playing Tony Hawk. I was playing AOE2. I didn't have internet always, so the AI was awesome. My computer sucked so i would put a cap on the pop at 50 or 100 for smoother game play. Then AOE3 game out in 2005. I was like WTF is this. I couldn't play it. So I kept playing AOE2. Even after moving multiple times and having different computers i always could track done my AOE2 disks. I even remember when the server shut down in 2014. I guess i never really looked online at the time to see if there was a big community of players or anything. I moved again in 2020. Bought a new computer. Couldn't get AOE2 to work no mater i did. And then somehow i found T90. And realized there was a huge community of players! Bought AOE2 DE for $8. So, after watching 50 videos and playing against AI 20 times decide to try multiplayer. There isn't much information on the best way to begin multiplayer. Tried a couple 1 vs 1 unranked, these went the worst. Then tried ranked 1 vs 1. Still get slaughtered even tho i usually can get the build order done faster for first 15 vils or so but then they attack, and I can't recover. So far lost five 1 vs 1. Then i tried a team game in fortress. I just tried as hard as i could to get the build order fast and watch the scores and i thought i didn't do that bad. But then all of the sudden i my teammate has a castle at the enemy's gate and already is attacking. Really surprised he already had a castle and all i was doing was eco stuff. Then for some reason i thought my pop was capped at 100. I thought i built more houses. It seemed the pop was still stuck at 100. So i stayed 100 for 10 min then built another castle and the pop jumped up LOL woops. When i wasn't creating vils my score didn't go up and i was left behind but only by 3000 pts or so. We won and I had sent troops to help the team, but my teammates were talking shit lol i don't blame them. If anyone reads this, any tips for a new player where im at. I wish the game would match me with lower Elo players. Should i just keep playing multiplayer? Ranked? Unranked? AI? I'm also wondering if you change the default aggressive stance for military units? Posted: 05 Feb 2022 09:59 PM PST So recently I had 3v3 game that ended up coming down to the two goth players on either side slapping each other with champions. What I noticed was that the attacking Goth player seemed to have tankier, sturdier stuff. Like, at least once I noticed four huskarls/four champions from the attacker mow down a group of 10 champions from the defender. From what I could tell in the replay, they had full upgrades on both sides. What are usually the deciding factors in a goth fight? Provided that you can't just build siege or some such (cause it's goths and they'll be in your eco long before a single building gets built.) Is it really just a matter of who builds more champions? Posted: 05 Feb 2022 07:01 AM PST I've always liked the idea of the Steppe Lancer; it's a medium cavalry unit sitting between the light cavalry line and the knight, regionally available to appropriate civs with better raiding potential. The unit itself also looks really, really cool. Unfortunately, in practice it's almost completely obsolete and consequently barely used more than Bohemian Cav archers. There are a few reasons for this. Firstly, it has god awful hp for the amount it costs. In castle it has the same hp as a light cav (40 less than a knight), in imp 5 more than a hussar, and once again 40 less than a cavalier (we wont even mention the paladin). This is while costing 110 total res (70f/40g), compared to a light cav's 80f or a knights 135 total (60f/75g). This isn't even counting the hp/cost efficiency of UU units either (looking at you, Keshik) or the fact that over a 3rd of this low hp costs gold. I've made a table below to illustrate just how shitty the deal is for the steppe lancer below, showing the res per hit point of between these three cav units, after bloodlines.
As can be seen, it lags behind the other two significantly in both castle and in imp, and is compounded by the fact that it has bugger all armour either. So essentially you're paying more for a unit that dies faster. Another issue is the upgrade cost. It is prohibitively expensive compared to cavalier, and even hussar, costing a whopping 900 food and 550 gold. In return it gets 2 more attack and 20 more hp. So, the exact same as the cavalier upgrade except 850 more res. Not a great deal, given that you're still spending a lot of res on the production, unlike hussars. So it's incredibly squishy for the price and costs a ton to upgrade, but what are the positives of this unit? One positive is it is produced 33% faster than either light cav or knights, it still has decent damage output, and of course the 1 range allows stacking in fights so your units should theoretically be able to attack more without dealing with the dreaded pathing. Another positive is the civ bonuses the steppe lancer benefits from. Mongol HP, Cumans speed/production speed, Tatars Silk Armour all add nice bonuses. However, they all also apply to the hussar as well, which leads to the crux of the issue; better options. Even with the positives of the Steppe Lancer noted above, it is still seen very rarely in competitive play. It is rare on the ladder and non existent in the pro scene. This is because the civs that have access to it all have better options. For a meat shield, Hussars are unequivocally superior; they provide more hp for what's paid, cost no gold (allowing them to compliment CA beautifully) and tank arb fire like nobody's business. For a melee unit with staying power, Cumans have access to Paladins (1.3 res per hp point with top tier armour), Tatars have Cavalier or Keshiks, and Mongols aren't spending gold on anything that isn't siege or Mangudai (or champs if they run into Goths or meso). So how would you use Steppe Lancers in an army comp? They're too squishy as either a meat shield or a melee powerhouse. Like the Militia line, they die to both ranged and knight line, except they are far more expensive and ultimately cost inefficient. The Steppe Lancer costs too much food to make in Castle age, and too much gold to make in imp. However, we've seen in the past that when the Steppe Lancer is buffed it can be...a little OP. When it first came out it had 10/12 attack, 1.5 speed, 1.9 RoF and cost 30 gold. So naturally it was utterly emasculated by the nerf bat to the point where it's essentially campaign eye candy or a tool used by Viper to flex o his opponents. It did receive a small buff in Lords of the West (gold from 45 to 40) then Dawn of the Dukes, now having a reasonable RoF again (2.0 from 2.3). However, it is still seen about as often as bigfoot or competent QB play on the Jets. So how could it be viable again, without being OP? I think the base issue is that it's far too squishy. I would say a flat 10 hp buff to standard/elite, and 1 melee armour for the elite upgrade. It would go from dying in 8 hits vs a cavalier to dying in 10. It would still suck vs archers, but may see some niche use in castle against things like monk/siege pushes. If it's still weak, maybe tweak the food or gold cost by 5 or so, nothing major. TL/DR Steppe Lancers too expensive/weak, they could use a small buff to durability. Let me know if you agree/disagree/think I'm an idiot/have alternative suggestions! Posted: 06 Feb 2022 12:42 AM PST So I resigned in a 4v4...turns out I resigned too early. My team was good and I sat there and watched as they won the game. Once the game was over I went to the stats page and my rating went up along with my win record. My question is, if I had quit after I resigned and exited the application and everything, would I still get the rating/win boost after the fact if my team won? Like would it record it as a loss when I left and change it to a win later? [link] [comments]

Posted: 05 Feb 2022 06:01 PM PST Hey y'all, So, I've always been more of an observer around here. But I just started a YT channel a couple of months ago. I'm really trying to pay it forward, since I've been helped out so much over the years watching YT videos and streams. I'm not normally one to solicit views for my own content, but I'd love to introduce new players to the game and keep the fire burning for AOE2 for the years to come, and I haven't really introduced myself around here. So, if you'd like to check out my latest video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cc2nTHEfAz8) and check out the channel in general, I really hope that y'all enjoy! [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Feb 2022 10:19 AM PST Hey guys, We made a discord a month or so ago, and have been hosting weekly diplo matches every Saturday at 1pm CST all elos and skill levels welcome to join! we also have channels in there for finding people to play team games with! hope to see some more of you on there in the future! A tip that might make TC-killing boars slightly easier for you Posted: 05 Feb 2022 12:54 AM PST I want to share this tip that might make killing boars slightly easier for those who are struggling with it. I just watched T90's video on Town Center tips, in which he also talked about shooting boars with your TC. There's nothing wrong with his explanation, but it does strike me that anytime I see somebody talk about shooting boars with TC's, they include a step that (in my eyes) is unnecessarily complicated, especially to newer players. When the boar is approaching and you are already shooting with the TC, T90 tells you to set the gather point to the boar, then eject. Especially to newer players, this might be just one task too many in such a short time span, resulting to a lost boar every now and then (and a huge set back in the early game). I have been doing something slightly different which has RARELY resulted to a lost boar. Like, maybe 2 times in the past half a year? I honestly can't even remember the last time I killed my boar with the TC. What I do is I select the number of vills that I want in the TC (6, usually) when the boar is getting close, then I order them to shoot the boar but before they get the chance to shoot, I garrison them in the TC. I now just have to shoot twice with the TC, hit the back-to-work hotkey and they will kill the boar. This way I don't have to set the TC gather point to the boar while it's already shooting at it. Killing a boar this way is almost a relaxing task, it's so smooth. Not only does it eliminate one task to do during a potentially stressful situation, it also takes away the risk of a new villager popping out of the TC in-between shots that shoots the boar (since that's what the TC gather point is), making the second TC shot kill it (a very rare occasion, but it might happen). If I mess up and not garrison in time (i.e. the boar already took a shot by the vills before I could gather them in the TC), I just TC-shoot him once or I will just let the vills kill the boar manually outside the TC. Slightly less efficient (and less satisfying), but not as big of a deal as accidentally screwing up the gather point while they are in the TC, resulting in a dead boar. Maybe this sounds like BS to you, that's fine! To each their own. Just wanted to share! Out of curiosity, I added a small poll. How do you usually kill your boars?! Portuguese pickers do you make champs post gold? Posted: 05 Feb 2022 03:00 AM PST The gold cost reduction makes them cost 133 food at bottomed out market. Only miss squires. [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Feb 2022 02:35 AM PST I see many times Turks in my team games especially in "closed" maps like Arena, BF, Oasis. It is EXTREMELY difficult to keep up with them once on Castle/Imperial age. The mix between janissaries and BCs is a nightmare to deal with even with archers, skirmishers, cav, siege. Janissaries are microed and BBCs shoot from the back to steady units (Turks have extra range with BBCs through a tech) How do you guys deal with that? The only viable counter that I found it's the Turks themselves or a constant flow of Huskarls if you can afford it on the long run On top of that they can send 60 Hussars (free upgrades for scout line) in a constant flow to cancel your Janissaries counters or divert your units from attacking the Janissaries Any viable strategy? Trouble with disconnects / syncing Posted: 05 Feb 2022 12:08 PM PST My whole family plays this game. We love it dearly. However, we can hardly play together without someone dropping or the game going out of sync. We have very good internet. Can anyone suggest a workaround? It's gotten to the point that we don't even want to try and play anymore. [link] [comments] |
