You can get up to 850+ useful population before the end of a 40 minute treaty.

I've recorded the build-up and written out the build order if you're interested.

How do you determine the base cost of an unit, upgrade, and resources?

    Posted: 16 May 2022 06:00 AM PDT

For me it's in the Settler Base Gather Rates or Settler Seconds.

Let's use the Musketeer for an example, Their Cost is 75 Food and 25 Coin, which most people would think it's 100 Resource cost.

However to me, it's actually much more complex as:

-Settler Hunting have 0.84 Food/Sec gather rate.
-Settler Mining have 0.6 Coin/Sec gather rate.

so when counted on A Musketeer will cost 130.8 Settler Seconds, 89.2 from gathering food from hunts + 41.6 from mining.

While there are upgrades that you picked up most of the time it will just make your units Cheaper in Settler Seconds, since if Exploration/Discovery Age Market Upgrades are researched the gather rate becomes:

-Hunting +10% from Hunting Dogs, 0.92 Food/Sec, 81.5 Settler Seconds
-Mining +10% from placer mines, 0.66 Coin/Sec, 37.8 Settler Seconds
-119.3 Settler seconds total for a musketeer.

This also goes for upgrades like Fortress Age Veteran Musketeer, which cost 200 Wood and 200 Coin:
-Wood Gather Rate is 0.5 Wood/Sec, so it would took 400 Settler Seconds.
-The Coin would cost 333.3 Settler Seconds.

So the real cost of Veteran Musketeer(or any Veteran Upgrades for European Civs)is 733.3 Settler Seconds or less, which is around 5.6 Musketeers.

I Hope this can bring some prespective, as the New Malta Civilization Sentinels might looked like a stronger Musketeer for Less food and double Coin cost, but in reality their real cost is 142.8 Settler Seconds, 59.5 from Hunting Food and 83.3 from Mining Coin.

Do maps adjust to player sizes?

    Posted: 16 May 2022 04:11 AM PDT

So me and my friends recently had a match on Atlas and we decided to go for the "big map" option since it was a 4v4. The map seemed ridiculously big.

And some other maps even seemed big without the "big map" option when playing with several players. So do maps adjust?

How do you build a civillization

    Posted: 15 May 2022 10:10 PM PDT

I just started playing the game, it is my first game of this franchise. I really liked the "how to play" tutorial but i don't really like the campaign (so far). I was wondering how do you develop and manage a civillization and explore the map (freely without any primary objevtives) like in the tutorial.

How's this game doing relative to AoE4 in terms of long-term health?

    Posted: 15 May 2022 06:15 PM PDT

I'm an old-school AoE3 player, it was one of my first video games and I played since vanilla. I got back into it when DE released and had a blast, but stopped playing after a while because of grad school. I should have more time over summer so I was wondering if it's worth diving back in? Or is AoE4 the move now?

I tried AoE4 briefly after release, played maybe 20 hours. It was alright but I didn't get to a point where I understood the game that well, so I didn't have as much fun as with AoE3.

Is it worth committing more time to AoE4 and learning all the systems and strats? I see that AoE3:DE is still getting updates which is amazing, but if AoE4 is "the future" I wonder if it may just be better to switch over, bite the bullet and learn.

I played French and he played Spain. What strat do we take against them? Semi FF?

In the shadow of KoTM, OligarchyMod received a huge content patch

    Posted: 15 May 2022 02:51 PM PDT

Some of you may have heard of my OligarchyMod, although 9 out of 10 Oligarchy players are probably just Hungarians playing it for the memes. In a nutshell; OligarchyMod is a full-scale civilization mod that introduces a satirical, present-day version of a certain real-life country. It is meticulously designed and full of flavor; all the characters are fully voiced, referencing Oligarchian inside jokes, cultural unicums, politicians' quips, scandals, etc. But do you have to be Oligarchian to be able to enjoy the mod? Absolutely not!

You start with a basic Eastern European civilization, except you can't train any Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery, Frigates or Monitors, or even regional Outlaws. You don't have access to staples like 3 Settlers, Crates of 700 resources, Refrigeration or Royal Mint either... after all, Oligarchy is a few decades behind civilized countries. So what do you have that can help prevail against your enemies? The weak Alcoholic at the Tavern with a lot of hidden potential, and the option to elect any of the 5 powerful and sociopathic Parties to age up, which are heavily caricaturized versions of their real-life counterparts. These Parties will decide the strategy of your match, but you're not bound to any one of them; you can elect one of them 4 times in a row like in a soft dictatorship, or elect different Parties in any order to balance their bonuses and drawbacks with one another. And no matter which way you lean; all of them receive their fair share of satire!

Two of your pillars of power are the Parliament and the Ivory Tower, which provide lighter and darker unique Party bonuses, respectively, for (political) Influence. As you progress through Elections, more and more units and technologies will open up, unlocking devastating combinations in the end!

    As the Oligarchian writer Frigyes Karinthy put it; "Humour is no joking matter!" And true to this spirit, a truly complex and detailed civilization lies behind the outer layer of parody. If you think Mexico was a too straightforward civilization for you, and you want to dabble in groundbreaking, never-before-seen bonuses, such as;

    • Unleashing wildcard units that attack enemies and allies alike,
    • Children that grow up to be Settlers over time,
    • Printing money for a short-term bonus but inflating the prices in the long run,
    • Plastering your Party's posters over the map to distract and slow down enemies,
    • Forcing the lower classes of your society to work in Prisons and even sentence them to death,
    • Send Black Volga cars to take away your enemy's Settlers,
    • Hunt wild animals from an aircraft like a true Eastern European Oligarch,
    • A gluttonous politician who is stronger the more he feeds,
    • A charismatic Preacher Hero who draws power from his flock,
    • A radioactive nuclear power plant that debilitates and eventually kills everyone who comes too close to it,
    • and many, many more;

then this is your chance! Try OligarchyMod today! You've never played a mod like this. Just subscribe to it in the in-game Mod Browser. Over 800 people have already done so!

The changelog can be found here; feel free to be active on the subreddit too, as currently it's just me posting one changelog after the other. It would be nice to hear a few people's opinions about the mod.

P.S.: OligarchyMod will keep receiving updates in the future, and it will be updated to be compatible with Knights of the Mediterranean and its mechanics as soon as it will be possible.

updating my tier list videos (question to the viewers)

    Posted: 15 May 2022 01:16 PM PDT

as many of you know, early this year, i made a whole bunch of tier lists for units, finishing what aussie drongo started and making them up to date (heres the supercut: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaclpiSwh7w&list=PLmaIQdAIm3huXeylSUJgjlXRY0-_gUjIJ&index=55&t=1s)

after the new civs release and we all get some time to acclimate from them and figure out what's really OP and what isn't, i plan on updating all my tier lists i made like 5 months ago to accommodate all the new units as well as update any changes in my opinion, include missing units, and correct statements i was incorrect about. i plan on waiting at least a month after the expansion releases to do this as i would like the first balance patche for the new civs to come out before i make any statements that could be immedietley dated only a few weeks later

so my question to you all is:

would you prefer i make small videos that only go over the changes from the previous tier list videos and link the original? or would you all prefer i make them again from scratch so you can get it all at once? i don't mind either method, just wanna know what you guys would prefer

What are the unique Church techs for the new civs?

    Posted: 15 May 2022 06:46 AM PDT

It's possible I missed it in all of the hubub, but I've yet to see any definitive showcase of Italy and Malta's Church techs. I'm a bit of a fanboy of the weird free techs and merc pops that each nation gets, like the Russian all-upgrade or the German infantry speed up, plus merc pops like Dutch Musks are always fun. Any word what the newest Euro nations get?
