Can I see player ratings on HD replays

    Posted: 24 Sep 2019 05:37 AM PDT

Okay so like the title says, I was wondering if there is a way to see the ratings of the players in the game during a replay on the HD version of AOE.

Before anyone asks I for the life of me, can't get voobly to work.

Anywho, I've really been getting in to online lately trying to improve, and I've been going back and watching all my relays in my 1v1s. (Finally got my first win yay)

But I noticed I can't see the ELO of the person in the game with me and I was wondering if that is located somewhere and I'm just blind, or if HD doesn't show it?

    Thanks :)

    Little tips and tricks

    Posted: 23 Sep 2019 08:44 PM PDT

I wanna hear some little tips and tricks or general good ideas

Ill go first : When you have a small group of units and a monk appears converting one, send the weakest to the monk and back off with the rest. If hes a micro then you have a good chance at a free monk pick. If hes not, and you lose the ele/knight then its no real loss.

    Entering into the competitive games...

Hi, noob player here (1300 Voobly).

Just want to share a table I made trying to have a critical look at the competitive games. I've never found something like this so maybe some new entry levels would find it useful and maybe some pros can correct it. I won't show the time calculations unless someone asks in the comments, but they are very simple. In the (X) are the number of units attacking Some data is from aoestats.io (great site!). The data are referred to an average game 1v1 Random Map with open Map Arabia type. I considered also the average path covered to arrive in the enemy base. The times are referred to Cicero's Build Order Guide (22 pop scouts; 22 pop M@A; 23 pop archer; 27+2 pop fast castle). Specific build order civ like 19 pop mongol scout are not considered. Hope is clear.

Bring wonders in common gameplay-here's how.

    Posted: 23 Sep 2019 09:46 AM PDT

Wonders are amazing units which should be brought into common gameplay- they're used too little and look amazing.

To do so, have wonders grant a bonus, a flat +1 attack to all units for example, and for each civ, a different bonus actually. Let's make wonders a viable unit in games so we can see them more often- and increase the beauty of the game. With the biggest and most beautiful object designed for it.

    What is your favorite campaign?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2019 09:35 AM PDT

I'm making a texture list for modders out there.

    Posted: 23 Sep 2019 01:03 PM PDT

It's not finished right now, but it's open for modders to edit and add things.

The list is referencing the files in _common > drs > graphics

Hotkeys always reset to classic AOE on Voobly?

    Posted: 23 Sep 2019 09:45 AM PDT

I am running Voobly on windows 10. I used Aoe2Tools to initially set up the hotkeys from the Steam HD version. Whenever I play WK on voobly the hotkeys are fine, but if I am playing without the mod it always resets to the classic hotkeys (C to create a villager). I downloaded HDHotkeys mod, but it didn't change anything. I tried to start the game in single player and make a profile, but the hotkeys dont change. Any ideas?

Hardest AI is fucked up beyond repair in this game, unfortunately.

    Posted: 23 Sep 2019 10:12 AM PDT

DISCLAIMER: I messed up during posting this up, so the link to screenshot is in the comment section.

I know there's been a lot of discussion here now and then regarding the hardest AI, though I've never seen anyone complaining about the situation such as the one depicted in above screenshots. Thing worth pointing out is that this is a post-FE tweaked AI which as I heard became much stronger than the original HD AI.

In short: Playing against hardest AI on the maps bigger than tiny is non-viable, because after reaching a certain point in the game the AI starts to literally flood the whole map with their units - zero strategy, zero tactics, just to swarm their enemies with as much units as possible with no regard to heavy losses whatsoever. This specific match was happening on LudiKRIS-sized map (my personal favorite since I don't mind playing for a several hours long matches with demanding AI). In the 2v2 match - me + AI (Portuguese and Persians) vs 2 AIs (Koreans and Spanish), we were utterly destroyed by them - and not like they were attacking in the same spot at the same time - these were completely separated assaults, but on such a huge scale that even taking example from them and spamming a lot of trash units didn't help at all. Initially we were holding pretty solid line in north choke point, but when I was attacked by Koreans, I had to withdraw my own units from the battlefield in order to repel the attack, causing my ally's defeat. My only conclusion from this "experience" is that even with ally(ies) after first 1 hour you reach the point where you are no longer able to beat even a single hardest AI - their economy becomes so complex and they constantly flood the map with their units that you lose any chance to destroy them at all. It seems like the only viable solution for this is to play on tiny maps and use either scout/archer rush, but the second option is not really efficient since AI is mostly focusing on producing skirmishers and archers itself as well. Although these tactics are a current meta in this game, I don't like it personally, especially when I'm forced to use them even against the AI, since I prefer rather slow-paced matches without mindlessly rushing everything up just to beast an opponent within first 30 minutes - where is all the fun in that if you do this for a 100th time?
