Would trashifying Knights/Rams/Galleys be game-breaking? Posted: 18 Jan 2020 04:04 AM PST Malay have their trash militia-line and Persians have their trash archer-line, but how well would these trashified units perform? Let's assume a future civ gets a unique tech to change the gold cost of a unit into food/wood Trash Knights: They don't get Cavalier/Paladin (obviously), don't get Blast Furnace and make them cost 100 food. Trash Rams: No Siege Ram. Siege Engineers is questionable and make them cost 200 wood. Trash Galleys: No Galleon and no Dry Docks. They still have everything else and their cost will be the same just without the gold cost (edit) Any thoughs about this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jan 2020 07:35 AM PST If you could only pick one civ and you had to play it forever, regardless of map, setting, opponent etc. Which one would you pick and why? Personally I am not sure. I might take Byzantines since they have a lot of options and are decent all all type of maps and against every other civ. [link] [comments]
I hate building and using siege workshops Posted: 18 Jan 2020 07:24 AM PST I suck at using siege correctly I always wipe out my own Troops when using mangonels/onagers and the only siegecraft I really like using is trebs. So my question is What civs can I play as where I won't need siege a lot. [link] [comments]
Which laptop to buy for the best AOE2:DE performance Posted: 18 Jan 2020 06:25 AM PST Dear community, I want to buy a new Windows 10 notebook with 15,6" display for not more than €500. Which one would you recommend for the best AOE2:DE performance? (I normally do not play other games and just want to use it for office work and internet surfing [maybe also streaming but only onto laptop screen] besides that. I am not willing to buy a separate desktop PC just for gaming.) [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jan 2020 08:42 AM PST It's clear after NACIII that the Mongols aren't as good as they used to be. They are still great during TG but during 1v1 they have fallen off significantly and are no longer top tier. One is one buff that would help their middle game but not make them OP overall? Maybe receive stone shaft mining for free? Helps them transition to Mangudai more seamlessly. [link] [comments]

How to deal with serial droppers in DE? Posted: 18 Jan 2020 08:19 AM PST We can't. There's no save and exit feature, but I'm expecting it to drop soon. But some new crap has been brewing with the AOE2:DE community. One guy I matched up against in ranked TGs and every time he just left the game and changed his name to avoid being recognized. I'm pretty sure this is a rare issue but I've had this 3 times in a row, and I can only imagine the people who have to play with a handicap. Even if we had save and exit, these serial quitters would waste our time nonetheless. An idea I would like implemented would be a karma system where if you quit too many games, you can't play ranked for like 1 hour, do it more often, then a day, a week or even more. How can we review these cases? An Overwatch system like in CSGO would be great. Those who participate in Overwatch get special benefits like early access to features or special unlockables like the profile icons? Idk. I'm sure you all have great ideas and am willing to listen to any feedback on a similar idea. Thanks for taking the time to read through. Cheers! [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jan 2020 07:56 AM PST I'd like to play ranked team games but as none of my friends play aoe2 I was thinking about solo queue and getting into random teams. Does that work? Will the matchmaking system randomize you into a team with other people? [link] [comments]

Posted: 17 Jan 2020 11:41 PM PST Hello everyone, this might sound basic and silly, but I'm wondering where I can buy the game for my laptop? I used to play when I was little and would love to get back into it. Thanks a lot. [link] [comments]

Posted: 17 Jan 2020 09:26 PM PST The following concerns a specific gameplay setup I'm certain 95% of the playerbase couldn't care any less about, but it is a flaw in the game nonetheless and probably one that will go unaddressed because of its relative unimportance. But it matters to me, damnit. The new AI, which is indeed as brilliant as advertised, has no idea how to play Deathmatch. Here's the scenario: Berbers (P1) vs. Franks, standard DM settings, Arabia. Now, since these are two of the premier cavalry civs in the game, you'd probably think a starting comp of Paladin/Halberdier from the Franks and cheap Heavy Camels with Camel Archers and/or Hand Cannoneers for the Berbers. These make sense for this matchup, right? Or I could be completely off-base. Either way, it's not what the AI does. The first sign of trouble is this AI failing to use its starting scout to harass villagers. That's what you do in DM, especially with a cavalry civ where an early vil pick throws off the opponent's build order and can lead to your Paladins (or cheap Cavaliers and Heavy Camels) rolling over the opposing town and giving you a swift and decisive victory. Doubly so with the Berbers, who should probably stop the Frankish combination of qualitatively superior cavalry and fully-upgraded Halberdiers. But while each player scouts, I guess, what do they build at home? Barracks. To produce Champions. Now, both civs' Champions are fine--perfectly upgraded without any other bonuses--but the line tends not to come into play in DM anyway except for explicit infantry civs. So instead of two cavalry armies clashing at the three-minute mark, you have two stacks of Champions staying at home, soon followed by each side's UU. Camel Archers are amazing, of course, but in my experience, Throwing Axemen tend to work better later in the game when both their counters and the other Frankish options aren't as easily produced. Oh, and building multiple TCs near the same gold pile. I recognized this behavior immediately from playing WololoKingdoms DMs. Yep, Promi definitely worked on this AI, because this is the exact universal opening the Promi AI of old uses. If you don't believe me, fire up WK and see for yourself. Then run a battle with Barbarian and see the difference. It might be better than the HD AI building Skirmishers for almost every civ at game start and, ironically, almost every UU except for the Camel Archer. Even Barbarian had its hangups in the mode: Early-game Celtic Paladins, not building supporting cavalry with infantry/archer civs like Britons or Chinese (except Chinese Cavaliers as an opener), a Mongol starting comp of Mangudai/Champion. And the Classic AI building Blacksmiths and Universities on a post-Imperial start? Don't even get me started. But at least prior AIs know how a Deathmatch works. And I think it'd be nice to have an AI that knew what it was doing, especially if, by chance, someone wants to learn a game mode that doesn't have nearly the playerbase it once did even as the game itself has skyrocketed in popularity. (Note that this is based solely on the first five minutes. If this generates interest, I'll be happy to report back based on how a match progresses.0 [link] [comments]
What happens if both players pick mirror? Posted: 18 Jan 2020 04:03 AM PST Seeing as civs aren't locked in before the matchup is selected, I was wondering what happens if both players decided to pick mirror in a ranked 1v1? Would it default to a random civ? Or would the match just get disbanded? [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Jan 2020 01:57 PM PST So the Noboru rush (Inca villager rush/trush) has gained popularity since NAC III, and a lot of people are unsure how to counter this strat (besides just mirroring the strategy). Here are a few games that appear to show some viable counters. Really, micro seems to be extremely important, regardless of the counter strat chosen. Hoang vs Noboru: TL;DW Hoang does Hoang things by making lots of militia and pulling a few vills of his own to stem the villager rush. T90's The Legend of Noboru: TL;DW Noboru vs Project Belgium starting at 9:30, even though Project Belgium loses the game, he was winning by full walling early and continuing to wall behind. It looks like he could have won the game had he taken a less greedy approach after surviving the initial rushes (Noboru just keeps sending in waves of vills). There are other games of top level players doing not the best execution of Noboru's Inca rush, so I decided not to include those, but there are examples of these from NAC III with TheViper vs Hera and Yo vs Viper, as well as this game of MBL vs Fat Dragon. One takeaway for defending against this strat is to not fight your vills against Inca vills without military support, even if you outnumber them 2 to 1, unless the situation absolutely calls for it, this is usually a bad sign. Stone walls could be a counter, but this is a big investment. A lot of the counters though rely on being absolutely certain that your opponent is going to Noboru you. [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Jan 2020 10:26 PM PST I was wondering if anyone has a good build order for this strategy as I couldn't really find one. I was thinking something along the lines of: 6 sheep 4 lumber 1 boar 4 berries 1 boar 6 lumber ?3 gold It's at the last step where I get stuck. I'm not sure how many villies I should be putting on gold before I go Feudal. And then I'm also wondering which type of infantry I should use to protect the monks. It would be great if I could use Jaguar warriors but that would eat up the gold needed for the monks so I was thinking of going with pikes instead. Any thoughts? [link] [comments]
How to enable shift+ctrl-group? Posted: 18 Jan 2020 02:02 AM PST Some time ago, I played a game with someone and I was able to do this... Click 1, and my ctrl-group 1 gets selected... Now, I press shift+2, and both 1 and 2 were selected... Does anybody know how to enable this? [link] [comments]
Why do some cavalry/siege units have humans on them... Posted: 17 Jan 2020 03:25 PM PST while others don't? For example, the Elephant archer and battle elephant both have humans riding them but the war elephant and the onager do not. What's with the inconsistency? [link] [comments] |
