Civ picking makes the game boring Posted: 20 Apr 2020 11:48 PM PDT I feel like the first month(Cumans only era). Probably the reason is the pro scene affected the game too much - Hidden cup was a good example - there was a Mongols map, a Japanese map, an Indians map and persians for the remaining water map. And now I can't remember the last nomad/cross/swamp I played against non-persian civ. I really think that at my level 1250-1300 the civ doesnt matter much, so on Arabia I go random and have decent games but on these hybrid maps that I love playing, persians are just too strong. And there are all those people who have watched pro player tutorials and they know the build order for the first 15min. I am extremely happy when I manage to win vs persians on Nomad but most of the time the advantage is just too big. Not to mention Khmer on Arena and Hideout - sometimes I wish so badly to be better just to punish these wallers that just have a crazy strong boom into 100 elephants or scorps. Anyway my point is that the games are not fun anymore - everyone with the best civ, the best build, it makes no sense to go random and get crushed everytime. I hope they implement a possibility for a civ ban or a random only ladder. EDIT: If someone has suggestions how to beat Persians on Nomad I will be more than happy to hear them. What is the best use of Relic gold in post-imp trash wars? Posted: 21 Apr 2020 07:25 AM PDT Last night I got into a 2 hour game on Mediterranean where the map was ultimately completely devoid of gold and running out of wood. I had thousands of wood & food and a few relics, but I was unsure what to spend my gold on to create any meaningful push. Eventually I basically ran out of stamina and stopped defending my base & resigned. Curious what your thoughts are. Maybe trebs? Edit: I was Mayans. So probably Siege ram was my best bet [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 Apr 2020 04:59 AM PDT Hi, I used to play back around 2000-2003, and decided to give DE a look. It got me thinking again, to something I never quite understood, even back in the day. When looking at experts playing, a lot of them seem to attempt to farm as early as possible, which seems a bit weird to me. I would expect that given that villagers extract food from farms at about the same rate (give it or take) than berries (6), game (2 boars + 3-4 deers) or sheep (4 + 2 + 2), and that a farm takes 60 wood to create, players would be tempted to delay their farming as long as possible (I would say, very late dark ages / when going up to feudal). Instead, the rule seems to be if any, to act the opposite way. They quite predictably put their first 6 vills on sheep but then run to put 3-4 vills on wood, even before putting any in berries, as to be able to start creating farms by vill 18-20. This seems quite weird to me. Why not put more vills in the berries (let's say 4-6), some others on deer instead of wasting wood on farms? What am I missing? [link] [comments]

AOE 2 HD - Noob player - Seeking Guidance Posted: 21 Apr 2020 05:54 AM PDT I recently started playing aoe 2 HD. initially I struggled with standard difficulty but now I can easily beat standard AI. Today I tried moderate AI in arena mode. I boomed perfectly and successfully stood against AI attacks. But when I decided to attack with a big army ( 20 Paladins, 20 crossbows, 20 elite Tarkans, some halberdier and trebuchet) I was overwhelmed by AI. Endless waves of Cav Archers and Skrimishers kept pouring out and I could do nothing. It was almost like 100 military. Any suggestions what to do ? Did booming gave AI all the time it needed ? Posted: 21 Apr 2020 02:56 AM PDT Well guys, I recently bought this game after a few friends suggested we play something together to have fun over quarantine. I played the original games all through my childhood and loved them, I was expecting to be pretty good as my friends aren't really gamers... but god damn I am getting stomped! Turns out 3 of them are amazing players, I am shocked how good they are... massive economy's and armies. I've learned so much in the last 2 weeks watching my friends and also YouTube videos but I'm just wondering what should I do during a free for all game? Rush or wall up? Aggression or defensive nature ? We've played a good few games now and I'm always at the bottom, last game I got rushed by one guy, he killed so many villagers before I got rid of him. Then I walled up trying to build a force, he attacked me again and I managed to stop him only for my other mate to hit me on the other side of my base and completely demolish me. Any tips greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
