We should start bugging people of the franchise to open-source the Genie engine Posted: 02 Jun 2020 12:05 AM PDT Last month Electronic Arts was releasing the TiberianDawn.dll and RedAlert.dll and their corresponding source code under the GPL version 3.0 license on Github. https://github.com/electronicarts/CnC_Remastered_Collection/ So you might ask now what that could have to do with the AoE franchise? Well, I think (IMHO) it could be essential to the healthy development of the game to create an open-source development environment (on Microsofts own platform Github e.g.) together with the community developers. As Electronic Arts shows with this release they accept community projects and their work and are willing to open themselves for the greater good and the future of the game - something people are worried about in the community for AoE2DE. Releasing the code to another >20-year-old engine of a RTS game and the corresponding data formats would be a key moment for the game industry as well. And would be a huge gesture towards its' community. We should start bugging the people over at World's Edge (that are in charge of bugging Microsoft about certain things) to give this more attention. Q&A you find here: https://www.aoezone.net/threads/we-should-start-bugging-people-of-the-franchise-to-open-source-the-genie-engine.165673/#post-668356 [link] [comments]

Why is there no hotkey for clearing production queues? Posted: 01 Jun 2020 10:19 PM PDT In a lot of situations it would be very helpfull to be able to clear the queues quickly. Maybe you spotted a new army that counters the current production or you reached the pop limit and can't make trebs or trade carts because your queues are full with army? In those cases, I find it very tedious to click all queue items on the top to jump to the corresponding building, then shift click every building on its own. At that point, there should be a hotkey for it, right? What is your opinion on this, has this already been brought up a lot or are did the devs say something about it? [link] [comments]
The Current Patch Needs to be Rolled Back Posted: 01 Jun 2020 11:32 PM PDT When a patch fundamentally makes a huge portion of the game unplayable, I believe it should be rolled back and re-released once the issues are fixed. The current approach seems to be to just have players wait 30 days for a fix, no matter how significant the issues. The problem is that in every 30 day cycle new bugs are being introduced. So essentially, the game gets continuously plagued with problems, without immediate resolutions. Right now, 3v3 and 4v4 games are unplayable due to a major disconnect issue where one player disconnects randomly at the start of the game. This was introduced in the latest patch. People have not been able to play team games (ranked or unranked) for a whole week. Rolling back the update is required to keep the player community sustainable, otherwise I fear people moving away from this fantastic game. [link] [comments]
Why is it so difficult to play a multiplayer match ??? Posted: 02 Jun 2020 05:51 AM PDT This is so frustrating! Ranked queue doesn't load multiplayer matches, people constantly disconnect, unranked lobbies don't appear! What is going on?? [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Jun 2020 07:15 AM PDT I've been playing on a Dell XPS 15 laptop, but recently I've had a huge amount of lag making the game no fun to play, so I'm thinking of building a desktop PC for the first time. After a bit of looking around I found this build suggestion online: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/guide/tTgXsY/modest-intel-gaming-build It includes an Intel i5 2.9GHz and GTX 1660, which should be above the recommended requirements on Steam, but I've also read of people struggling with better PCs, so I just wanted to check. Any other tech advice also really appreciated - I'm a complete newb to this. I'd like to be able to play 4v4 multiplayer, ideally on higher graphics settings. Thanks a lot! Steam recommended requirements: Processor: 2.4 Ghz i5 or greater or AMD equivalent Graphics: Nvidia® GTX 650 or AMD HD 5850 or better [link] [comments]
How does ranked map ban system work? Posted: 02 Jun 2020 05:17 AM PDT There are two options: -First select two players with similiar rankings. Then merge banned maps. Choose one available. -Search between users with regard to both available maps and user ranking. I think, the system uses first one, am I right? So I want to make a conclusion: If I have zero bans, I dont get matched faster. It will be same with 4 bans, right? [link] [comments]
Connection Problems since update Posted: 01 Jun 2020 11:03 PM PDT Since the update I am having loads of connection problems with aoe2 de. Either I can't get into the game or I am into the game and it freezes internet connection wise meaning i can click and select everything but nothing moves. Is this a common problem? need help with higher resolution Posted: 02 Jun 2020 06:56 AM PDT Hi! I play AOE2 non hd version on voobly. My monitor only supports maximum 1280x1024 resolution. If I buy a monitor with 1920x1080 res, would my PC be able to run it? I am asking because I play on a really old desktop(probably from 2005)that has low specs. Would 1920x1080 affect the performance? Here's my PC specs: https://imgur.com/a/RLKYTw6 [link] [comments]

AoE2 Olympics massive tournament Posted: 01 Jun 2020 05:07 PM PDT I haven't seen this spammed on reddit yet, and it would be a shame if some maps didn't have enough players/teams. An incredibly ambitious tournament hosted by Huehuecoyotl22 is going to start soon, with 6000$ prizepool. More info here: https://www.aoezone.net/forums/2020-aoelympics.2208/ In this tournament you get to represent your country like in the real olympics and win gold "medals" in 1v1, 2v2 or 4v4 ! Don't worry too much about theviper etc, there are like 100 different tournaments part of this event and even he cannot win every single one unless he gets the gift of ubiquity :P [link] [comments]

The Malians are so fun to play. I wish they didn't suck ass in Team Games/Water. But what if... Posted: 02 Jun 2020 07:21 AM PDT Ok, I know. They're GREAT on arabia. They're GREAT on nomad. But for team games and water maps they're just... uncompetitive. The Malians are the most flexible civ in the game with a great eco bonus, though their 'Jack of all Trades' style of play leaves them lacking a real 'power unit' in the end-game. (which is fine. read on) The main issue is that they are not fit for a flank OR pocket position. Their team bonus is mediocre. Their late-game trash units are sub-par with one notable exception. THE BIG QUESTION: How do we make them more competitive in team games without making them overpowered in 1v1's, arabia, and nomad? Here's what I propose: OPTION 1: Give the Malians Bracer... BUT! Take away the Arbalest. As it is, the Malians don't make their arbalests anyway, as they don't have bracer at all. Instead we opt for hand cannoneers. How does giving the malians bracer solve this problem? Tigui. It's their Castle Age unique tech that makes the Town Center fire additional arrows, even while ungarrisoned. This tech is rarely picked up and is considered lackluster. Bracer would make this much more appealing. Galleons. Maybe you can give us the Galleons back. Since they're on par with everyone elses now. Since... You know, bracer. Elite Skirmishers are now viable. Think about this, the malians don't have a power unit. We ALSO don't have much to speak of for trash units. We get pikemen, Light cav, and skirmishers without bracer. That's pretty bad. Our only saving grace here is Farimba (Hard-hitting light cavs.) Most civs have 2 viable trash units. Very few only have 1. Let's give the malians bracer for their skirmishers. Skirmishers + Light cav is FINE. DON'T give us halberdier. Dear god we would destroy everybody. Allow me to point out this last patch indirectly nerfed the Malians by making Hussars just as good at harrassing as Light Cav were. So our trash game got indirectly weaker. OPTION 2: Give us Blast Furnace, Nerf Farimba to +3 attack for cavalry. (Cost: 450 Food, 350 Gold) The Cavalry remain unchanged as a result of this. The Infantry however become slightly stronger. Perhaps their Infantry can fill the role normally taken by Paladins. Making them viable in the pocket position, and since this is an Imperial upgrade... It doesn't upset their 1v1 balance much if at all. OPTION 3: Make our foot archers/hand cannoneers move 10% faster with the Farimba upgrade. Since we don't get cav archers anyway. If they move say 10% faster, lacking bracer isn't as big of a deal. by making the archers faster, we can out-pace skirms/archers that have bracer. it allows us to run away from unfavorable exchanges. Lock this behind Farimba as our Feudal age is VERY strong. OPTION 4: Give us 1 additional pierce armor in Imperial, BUT take away the Champion. This is probably best combined with option 2. If our infantry has a goth-like flood element to it... That very well could work. If the malians had stronger infantry, maybe they could fill the pocket role? If the malians had faster moving archers... maybe the flank role? The malians are very unique. I don't want that to change much. I believe these options would make them better in team games without making them too strong in 1v1 type games. [link] [comments]
