Am new to the game, gotta say it, I love the explorer mechanic Posted: 30 Jun 2020 10:39 PM PDT As an old school Warcraft 3 player, always loved RTS games, never really played Age of Empires 3 until the last Steam sale. I really regret not giving the game more attention in the past because I'm loving it. I love the explorer with the abilities/treasure/map interaction frame, am wondering if there is a mod out there with more emphasis on this mechanic, like different kind of explorer for each Civ or different customization. How do MODs work, are they helpful to the community? Posted: 30 Jun 2020 08:21 AM PDT So I purchased AOE 3 in the current sale and plan to play it over the coming months until DE comes out or AOE 4. I saw that there are various MODs kicking about online, some which seem to overwrite the original game, add 40 nations, 60 maps, God knows what else mods can do. It seems like a good idea at face value. However, how do these work exactly, if everyone downloads different modifications to the base game, it creates an inequality through the community. Peoples games operate in different ways, perhaps people have access to different units, cards, maps, the balance will be different ect How can people fairly play together if everyone basically has a different version of the game. Also, having just bought the official release complete collection (of steam), I somehow feel that I'm missing out or don't have all the game because there are so many mods out there. Is it ok not to have any mods? How has this affected the online community, I heard that no one plays AOE 3 anymore, is that true or is it just that everyone is splintered into caps playing 30 different versions of the game. If so, that seems like people have done something super dumb. Back in the day, I remember also downloading custom maps. There would be clips online of a fun, new map, lots of people would download it and have the option to play the map, but it didn't really affect the community or game because everyone was playing the same map. I don't see how different people having different modifications to the actual game can fairly play together. It doesn't make sense to me, feel like I missing something, can someone explain how the whole modding scene works. If I wanna play with others online, where this happening? [link] [comments] | ||

Posted: 30 Jun 2020 05:49 AM PDT Hi - my brother has played AOE3 for a while and likewise has a bunch of home cities at level 100+. I recently got into the game and wanted to start my own Home City at level 0....or at least a level that doesn't have everything fully unlocked. Is this possible (even if it means deleting all the old cities?) Note: this is on a shared ESO account that we own EDIT: Thanks all for the responses. I've decided to ignore my instincts and just play with the higher lever home cities. Thanks again! [link] [comments] |
