    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 12:15 AM PST

a Continuation of This Thread, Now I will explain the European Unique units and Expansion units.

Last time I forgot a couple of European units, here is some of the ones I forgot

    -Minutemen/Militiamen(Infantry/Ranged Infantry)

Note: Despite looking like they uses Muskets, they are not considered a Gunpowder Infantry unlike Musketeer and Skirmishers.

    -Cavalry Archers(Cavalry, Light/Ranged Cavalry)

Note: Despite using Bows, they are not affected by upgrades that affect Archers, like Tupi Poison Frog Arrows for example, as the Archer Type is only given to Foot Archers.

    -War Dogs(Hand Infantry)

Pets, Basically pets are just pets, and the only bonus I can search is villagers and Settlers deals 2x bonus damage to pets at range

Note: Yes they're affected by Infantry Breastplate, Just imagine your puppers is armored with a dog version of a Breastplate. and All pets are considered as Hand Infantry.

    C. French

    -Cuirassiers(Cavalry, Hand/Heavy Cavalry)

    D. Dutch

    -Hakkapelita(Cavalry, Hand/Heavy Cavalry)

Ranged Heavy Cavalry, a new type that is given to the Hakkapelita and Harquebusier, right now there are no damage bonus to these types unlike Light/Ranged Cavalry, this is probably for Upgrades that affect Light/Ranged Cavalry to also affect the Hakkapelita and Harquebusier units.

-Coyote Runner(Hand Infantry), yes they're not considered as Infantry, thus they don't get bonus damage from Lancers and Falconets.

Shock Infantry, a Light Infantry that is considered as Foot Cavalry in a literal sense, Shock Infantry are never considered as Infantry, and thus don't get bonus damage from units that often have bonus vs infantry like Naginata Rider and Spanish Lancers, Some Ranged Units also have debuff damage against Shock Infantry, one example is the Skirmisher's 0.75x damage against shock Infantry, and Anti Cavalry units would have bonus against Shock Infantry, like the Pikeman having 2.25x bonus vs Shock Infantry.

    Art of War

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 12:30 AM PST

I started playing Art of War as I was interested what it may teach me. I finished all there is to do except the Naval combat which I find useless because I haven't had a single game so far in AoE3 where I used ships. Anyway, at best I get Silver medal. In fact, 95% of the scenarios in Art of War ended up with a Silver medal and I think Land combat ended with a Bronze medal lol.

Are these results not good enough and showing that I've still got a lot to learn?

Some questions about Micromanagement of military units

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 11:10 PM PST

So I have some difficulties with micro:

    1. With skirmishers, when I hit and run, a lot of shots are "wasted". For example, I have an army of 50 skirms, I right click a musketeer, and even though only 10 shots are needed to kill the musket, all 50 hit that single target, wasting 40 shots. I find often this is less effective than just not microing at all.

    2. When I use cav, if I have a large army(ie 40 cav), if I just right click a unit, they all get stuck on each other trying to target that unit. I usually just struggle to select 3 horses at a time but my APM is low.

Is there a way I can just say "attack anything in this area"? like a hotkey or something. I often have fights where I have the superior numbers, but I lose because my micro is bad.

3.Is there a way or hotkey I can command a formation not to wait for the slowest unit? Often I'll have 20 horses, one will get snared by a pikeman, so now I'm struggling to find the one that's snared to run them into the enemy, and select the rest to run away.

Detailed gather rates for mills and estates in AOE3 DE:

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 08:30 AM PST

After reading lots of different threads about the real villager gather rates of mills and estates(plantations) in the ESOC version and because I have too much time right now I decided to do some testing for myself to see if there might be any changes in the DE because of different unit path finding.

For those who don't know: although the official gather rate for unupgraded mills/estates is 0.67/0.5 (per villager per second) because the vills on the field also wander around the real collection rate is actually lower.

Also there were rumors that it's more efficient to use only 7 vills per building because they sometimes bounce of each other and block their path on more crowded fields leading to less actual gather time.

The setup was simple: I startet a game and let my vills gather food and coin for exactly 30 minutes and then did some basic math. I did this first with 10 vills each on mills/estates without any upgrades, then with all available upgrades(everything on mill/estates and capitol) and finally with all upgrades plus the best card for each ressource type( royal mint and refrigeration).

I then repeated the process this time with only 7 villagers per building.

To make it short: the results aren't really surprising. The upgrades work almost exactly as they should and it seems that nothing has changed in the DE in regards to the real gather rates. They are lower as expected but in line with the ESOC version. And although I did see a slight boost when you only let 7 vills work on a field it is very minor but seem to increase the more upgrades you have( between 2.6% ~ 8% increase).

The detailed results(in gather rate per villager per second) are:

    10 villagers 7 villagers
    Mill
    without upgrades 0.467 0.479(+2.6%)
    with upgrades(+90%) 0.899(+92%) 0.925(+98%)
    with uprades and refrigeration(110%) 0.993(+112%) 1.027(+120%)
    Estate
    without upgrades 0.353 0.365(+3,4%)
    with upgrades(+110%) 0.743(+110%) 0.77(+118%)
    with upgrades and royal mint(+135%) 0.837(+137%) 0.857(+142%)

TL;DR: Farming is even worse than what you would expect because of villager idle time. Putting only 7 vills on a building seems not worth it except post imperial when you have all the upgrades and important cards, where it gives you a minor but not insignifcant boost.

Homecity only levels up sometimes after skirmish games

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 06:21 PM PST

    Hello friends,

im having a lot of fun with this game, but for some reason my exp from my skirmish matches only counts sometimes.

Im playing the DE version of the game.

I already saw that i should click the statistics tab after ive finished a game and it works maybe 50% of the time.

Is there anything else I might be overlooking?

All skirmishes are played without cheats or handycaps.

A List of Unit Types, Basic European

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 04:11 AM PST

I have seen quite some people in this game who gets unit typing wrong, so I hope I could at least explain the unit types in AoE3(both Original and DE)

    1. Crossbowman

Infantry, All Barracks unit have this Type, this type has both bonus and upgrade purpose, the Bonus Purpose is the fact that Lancers and Falconet will blast this unit, and the Upgrade purpose is for the Military Drummer which increases speed.

Archer, This means that they're a Arrow projectile unit, the different from skirmisher is that they're affected by "Infantry Breastplate", and some native upgrades specifically upgrades archers like Tupi and Seminoles.

Ranged Infantry, This means that any Card that affects Ranged Infantry will affect the Crossbowman, Example is the French Ranged Infantry Damage. There are no bonus for this type.

    1. Pikeman/Halberdier (Infantry)

Hand Infantry, Means that this unit fight with their hand weapons at close combat, this also means that they're affected by "Infantry Breastplate"

Heavy Infantry, Being a Heavy Infantry provide only debuff for a unit, in the form of Skirmisher units like Skirmisher and Crossbow deals extra damage.

    1. Musketeer(Infantry/Heavy Infantry/Ranged Infantry)

Gunpowder Infantry, you see that flintlock and paper cartrige upgrade at the Advanced Arsenal, yea these guys is the only one affected.

    1. Skirmisher(Infantry/Ranged Infantry/Gunpowder Infantry)

    2. Hussar

Hand Cavalry/Heavy Cavalry, Usually for upgrades and bonus damage purpose, like how Cavalry Breastplate affected these units and not the ranged cavalry, and Pillage giving bonus to their siege attack against building, while for Bonus Damage units like Crossbowman and Skirmisher have a damage debuff against heavy cavalry.

Cavalry, In upgrade purpose some native upgrade can increase Cavalry speed and Hitpoints, and for bonus damage purpose is how Pikeman have 5x bonus against anything mounted.

    1. Dragoon(Cavalry)

Ranged Cavalry/Light Cavalry, for both upgrades and Bonus damage purpose, in the Upgrade like Ranged Cavalry Cacarole increasing their Range, and how Skirmisher and Crossbowman have a damage bonus against them.

    1. Grenadier(Infantry, Heavy Infantry)

Siege Trooper, a Super Rare unit type, and a super rare counter is the Militiamen, having 2x damage against them.

Note: They're Heavy Infantry BUT due to their 40% Ranged Resistance, the Damage bonus from Skirmisher and Crossbowman is blocked by those resistance a little bit until the Counter Infantry Rifling is researched.

    1. Falconet, Culverin, Mortar, Horse Artillery, Heavy Cannon

Artillery, Just Artillery, is used for both upgrade and bonus damage purpose, the upgrades is relatively simple, just look below the artillery upgrades in the Arsenal, For Bonus Damage, the Haudenausee Kanya Horseman and Chinese Meteor Hammer is one Example for Hand/Heavy Cavalry, and every Ranged/Light Cavalry have bonus Damage but sometimes it's negated by the Artillery's high Ranged Resistance.

Laptop to run AoE III: DE

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 08:33 AM PST

Hey guys, i´m buying a laptop because of classes online, but i also want to play DE in it because my current PC can´t run it. Now, i already read the minimun and recommended requirements like a thousand times, and i heard a lot of times in much places that the game is not well optimized; i´m not an expert when it comes to laptops, but that changes something of the minimum requirements? does that mean that the minimum can´t run it really? I wanted to buy a i5 core or ryzen5 lap but i may not be able to do so because of budget. So, if i buy a i3 or ryzen 3 laptop, will i be able to run it at least with the minimun graphics? or i have to buy a i5 or ryzen 5 to have a decent play without too much lag or crashes? Thanks :)

Can you restore a saved multiplayer game?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 10:08 AM PST

I love that there is an option to SAVE a multiplayer game - especially in casual mode.

What I cannot figure out is how to RESTORE that multiplayer game - in multiplayer mode. Hoping I'm missing something obvious! Help?
