    Arambai 28+2 build order. TheViper did this start against TaToH in the Clown Cup. This build is more consistent and you will win games by destroying your closest flank enemy before they can respond properly. Every build has a counter and tweaks you can make so learn when to use and not to use it.

    Moderate too easy, hard too difficult

    So if I wanna beat Hard AI I need to sweat a little. That is not always the gameplay I am looking for when I start up AoE2:DE.

    However, the moderate AI seems to just stop making villagers around 40, no booming at all. That's a steamroll I also not really enjoy. I think moderate AI should be at least capable of a standard 3 TC boom.

    Hey all. I'm a new player that's slowly working his way to being not trash at this game. I've been using Cicero's Build Order Reference to get my early game up to snuff and I think it's been helping a lot, so I wanted to share that with you guys. I'm sharing the original build order references(in .jpg), and two reformatted ones (in .docx, and .xlsx). Personally, I like using the .xlsx version.

    Because the original was formatted in a way that didn't jive with my brain, I reformatted it to make it easier for me to understand. Here are the major changes:

    • Reordered the resources to match the order of the resources in-game (DE) from left to right.
    • Created a column for food, with each source of food separated and highlighted.
    • Made the instructions more clear on when you should be doing a task with new vills or moving from one resource to another.
    • Added a population column. The bracketed number is the vill count, and the other is overall population. This assumes you kept your scout alive and trained 3 militia for drushes or MAA builds.
    • Added visible lines across the rows to make it clear which numbers line up with which step.
    • Some of the builds seemed to lose track of vills. So I adjusted the numbers a bit to account for them. I could be wrong about this though.

    I played through each of the builds in single player to make sure the numbers were correct, but I can't be too sure that I got everything right. Please feel free to vet the numbers yourself!

    A few final points about using the reformatted versions:

    • The population numbers show what the pop count should be when first vill is created for that task. IE. in Fast Castle to Boom, the vill that pops out when your pop shows 20/25, or (19) 20 as shown in the documents, should be headed towards wood along with the next 5 vills. The bold numbers in the "Advancing" rows show what your population numbers should look like as you're advancing.
    • The population numbers will also stop counting for aggressive feudal strats because I don't want to account for the military units you may or may not be building. Militia in drushes are the only exception, and, as mentioned, the numbers will account for 3 militia and your scout being alive. Of course, you can build 4 militia if your civ allows for it.
    • Some of the builds don't tell you exactly what you're supposed to be doing with your vills (IE. 31 Fast Imperial). I'm guessing that Cicero is letting you put those guys where ever you see fit depending on what strategy you're going for.
    • Some of the civ numbers won't add up to what's shown in the population column. You will see this in tower builds, and builds with dedicated builders. On a few of them I just don't know where they're supposed to go.
    • The orders don't tell you when to build houses, eco buildings, when to lure the second boar, when to research Loom, or when to wall your base. The reformatted and original versions assume you know when to do all that based on your play style and strategy.
    • At the end of the builds, you can pretty much do what you want from there. The last steps will often end with a general instruction like add farms until you have 18 (↑18 farms, which also seems to be a good rule of thumb in feudal??).
    • Cicero mentions this somewhere, but all these can be made more optimal if you push deer.

    This write-up is way longer than I thought it'd be. But anyway, I'm happy to share and I hope that any low ELO players (legends?) out there like me will find these helpful.

    Why has the Portuguese buff had no effect on their winrate?

    In the last update, Portuguese units went from costing 15% less gold to 20% less. That's a juicy discount and they have a lot of unit options to use it on: fully upgradeable Arbalest and Cavalier, superior bombard and hand cannons, and their Champions only lack squires. They also get a near-complete university, near-perfect monks and every eco upgrade except gold shaft mining. Their navy is obviously also way above average. Their only obvious weaknesses are a lack of camels and hussar.

    I was concerned that this buff might actually make them slightly OP, but instead their winrate has gone from 43.1% to.... 43.3%.

    Why are the Portuguese clearly the worst civ statistically, and what would it take to bring them towards a 50% winrate?

    Any advice for new AOE2 player coming from AOM?

    I'm very familiar with AOM's multiplayer. Does anyone have any advice for someone getting started to AOE2? As in, if you could relate units to their aom counterparts, major playstyle differences, and if there are equivalent strategies to stuff like: Athena rushing, Krush, FH, etc.

    I've been playing aoe 2 on and off for a few years now, and along with getting in to it at my level I have been enjoying watching lots of pro games and tournaments (usually through T90), and while I enjoy watching all pros no matter nationalitys I'm interested to see that most of them come from the same few countries and I have yet to see any pro from the UK (Where I'm from) This isn't a criticism I just wondered if there are any British pros that I have somehow not come across
