I've been playing this game for 10 years and I started when I was 9 years old. I love this game so much. It's going to be so exciting seeing the game filled with players again, new civs it's just going to be awesome.

How do I learn to play this?

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 08:55 PM PDT

I got access to the closed beta to AoE3 DE today. I never played the original. I played AOE2 in '99 and was really good. I started playing the AoE2 DE a couple weeks ago even though that was 20 years ago AoE2 DE is like riding a bike.

I just got in my first game of AoE3 DE and boy does it look 10 times better than AoE2 DE, but holy crap is this game 90% different that AoE2. It is overwhelmingly complicated and I don't know how to start playing.

If the DE would have bringed another Asian Civ. Which one could have be?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 12:30 AM PDT

I know that a lot is thinking about Korea, but I think that it may have been Philippines or Indonesia since a lot of combats happened in those islands with asians pirates with spain and dutchland (a lot of those south asian countries worked with japanese and chinese pirates against Japan and other local potencies).

    Any idea?

Do you like the announced gameplay changes?

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 11:36 AM PDT

See the interview with Antony Brave, a descendant of the Lakota and consultant of Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition, for the new changes of the native american civilisations.

They tried make the game more realistic and historically-accurate and changed specific parts of the gameplay. The question of whether this improves the civilizations as a whole seems to be quite controversial.

Random civ should be a thing on multiplayer

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 05:40 AM PDT

Title, if the balance is better. Also ability to play against same civ AI without exploits to make it possible.

What do you thing, you agree or not?

The changes to the Natives are good, but are implemented for bad reasons

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 08:57 PM PDT

Sure, Native Northern Americans didn't dance around fire pits, and they didn't mine gold. Changing parts of AOE3 for the sake of historical authenticity is fine, though may understandably be seen as too much of a change for a remake. My problem with these changes are that they were clearly made to address grievances and not inaccuracy.

I think u/Mayorcete made a good, if blunt, point that if similar historical scrutiny were placed on other civilizations in the game, we would find plenty of "tropes" and historical inaccuracies that misrepresent particular cultures. The difference with the Natives is, of course, that because the company producing this game is American, it must treat native cultures with particular care in an act of penance for America's collective guilt for native mistreatment in history. This reasoning, though not unpopular, is absurd.

I'm not just going to say "It was centuries ago, get over it, no one alive had any hand in this," clearly this statement, though not without truth, is insufficient to dispel this enduring curse of the West. Instead, let me point out that history is replete with winners and losers, conquest, genocide, and displacement. Though we may lament the near-complete destruction of these cultures, no culture, not even these, are innocent of such crimes. Thankfully, over the course of time, the frequency of these has declined somewhat, but no amount of cultural flagellation will bring back the traditions and peoples long lost, nor will it ultimately grant their forgiveness.

I hope I managed to convey the concerns of myself, and likely others. I personally am looking forward to seeing how fur trading is implemented in the game, and naturally the game itself. Though the manifestation of this thinking is admittedly quite minor, I care a lot about this game and franchise, and I would hate to see it follow this path further.

    Walling without pillars?

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 02:33 AM PDT

I guess pros do it to save resources but it looks just silly and kind of annoys me. It's not hard to do either, or something you could consider a advanced skill.

Is this still a thing in DE? They should just make the pillars part of the wall, so it is only a visual thing. Or the pillars should be free as long as they are connected to a wall.

Also walling across trading routes should be possible with a gate obviously.

wondering if they will nerf opri box in the Definitive Edition

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 12:39 PM PDT

i played against a few russian lately and some of them used opri box, i really dont have a problem with it, but some of my team mates got a little mad by it, im thinking if they dont fix it right away, they will do in some future patch, because a lot of the new players might get frustrate for it.
but honetly i dont know, i do think opri box is fun though

Any news on custom maps/scenarios in AOE3 DE?

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 10:10 AM PDT

Custom maps were a blast back in the day:

    • Fort Wars

    • Lane defense maps

    • cat and mice(although no one ever wants to be cat...)

Now I actually know how to code and would like to make custom maps for DE. Has there been any news on what custom maps will be like in AOE3 DE?

Support this message if you please. This woke nonsense just kills the fun from natives. It is... simply disgusting.
