Huge AI League - Extreme AI vs Extreme AI * 1190

Huge AI League - Extreme AI vs Extreme AI * 1190

    Hello!

I would like to introduce you to over a month of my work. I simulated 1190 games (35 civilizations - round-robin * 2). Extreme AI vs Extreme AI on Arabia.

The simulation itself lasted over a week, with the computer turned on all day and night. During the simulation, my program - AutomationBoot took screens with statistics after each game.

Then I started to analyze the data. Unfortunately, my OCR program was not always 100% accurate, so I had to verify the values after conversion. 1190 games * 27 columns * 2 players = 64260 values... This was definitely the most monotonous part of my project. I was partly able to introduce automatic data verification (e.g. military + economy + technology + society = total score), but this was not always possible.

    Enjoy!

    Counter civilizations

In this case, every civilization has fought every civilization only twice, so I would not take this table too seriously.

    Data

The data comes from my Google Sheet

You can also view all games in the "Games" tab.

Please note: As I mentioned, my OCR was not 100% correct and I verified the data manually. However, I am sure I overlooked some of the errors. If you find any result suspicious or you find an error, please let me know. Thanks!

I put a lot of effort into it, so I hope you liked it. I would be thankful for every beer.

Tips for deciding 3 TC boom or staying at 1 or 2 TCs?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 07:14 AM PDT

Noob around 1000 elo here. How do you decide when hitting castle whether to go 1 tc push, immediate 3 tcs, or even go 2 tc push?

Right now I just auto build 3 tcs hitting castle and notice I can lag behind in military and resources until im setup and can start pumping units.

I know the answer is "it depends" so what are some examples where 1 tc worked or even only building one more (2 total) would be sufficient? What's going on in the game, or what do you pay attention to, when deciding how to approach castle age?

Civilization Match-up Discussion Round 10 Week 2: Incas vs Mongols

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 09:21 PM PDT

Two of the most aggressive civs in town!

Hello and welcome back for another Age of Empires 2 civilization match up discussion! This is a series where we discuss the various advantages, disadvantages, and quirks found within the numerous match ups of the game. The goal is to collectively gain a deeper understanding of how two civilizations interact with each other in a variety of different settings. Feel free to ask questions, pose strategies, or provide insight on how the two civilizations in question interact with each other on any map type and game mode. This is not limited to 1v1 either. Feel free to discuss how the civilizations compare in team games as well! So long as you are talking about how the two civilizations interact, anything is fair game! Last week we discussed the Berbers vs Portuguese, and next up is the Incas vs Mongols!

    Incas: Infantry civilization

    • Start with a free llama
    • Villagers affected by infantry Blacksmith upgrades
    • Houses support 10 population
    • Buildings cost -15% stone
    • TEAM BONUS: Farms built +50% faster
    • Unique Unit: Kamayuk (Powerful spearman with 1 range)
    • Unique Unit: Slinger (Anti-infantry archer unit)
    • Castle Age Unique Tech: Andean Sling (Skirms and Slingers no longer have minimum range)
    • Imperial Age Unique Tech: Fabric Shields (Kamayuks, Slingers, and Eagles have +1/+2 armor)

    Mongols: Cavalry Archer civilization

    • Cavalry Archers fire +20% faster
    • Light Cavalry, Hussar, and Steppe Lancers have +30% hp
    • Hunters work +40% faster
    • TEAM BONUS: Scout-line have +2 LoS
    • Unique Unit: Mangudai (Incredibly powerful cav archer with bonus dmg vs siege)
    • Castle Age Unique Tech: Nomads (Lost houses do not decrease max population)
    • Imperial Age Unique Tech: Drill (Siege Workshop units move +50% faster)

Below are some match up-specific talking points to get you all started. These are just to give people ideas, you do not need to address them specifically if you do not want to!

    • Okay, so with KotD3 coming up, let's talk about these civs on that version of Arabia (i.e. much more open than regular Arabia). With both of these civilizations having extremely fast early game options, which civ will thrive more in such situations? Incas have a very smooth start, a very strong tower rush that may include Blacksmith-armed Villagers. Meanwhile, Mongols can get very fast uptimes with their hunt bonus, and additional possess a wide array of early-midgame army options, including scouts, knights, lancers, crossbows, and mangudai. Who do you favor here?
    • Neither of these civs are generally considered top picks on Arena, but neither are by any means bad. Neither has an incredible long-term eco bonus, but they do both possess very strong, but very different armies. Mongols are focused on getting to Mangudai, Hussars, and Siege, whereas Incas are more fluid in attempting to counter whatever their opponent is doing. How will Eagles, Kamayuks, and Skirmishers deal with the Mongol onslaught?

Thanks as always for participating! Next week we will continue our discussions with the Lithuanians vs Slavs. Hope to see you there! :)

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 08:43 AM PDT

Titel says it all. Im around 1150 elo, and sometimes i totally get smacked by my opponent who seems to know the game way better than me. And the other side is also true. Sometimes im the one smacking. Are there more people who experience this? Or is it just me and do i need to improve way more in some area's i dont see?

Any general tips for a 11xx is welcome! Except learn your build orders. I know the scout, archer and FC pretty good. could blindly do it.

How to hange sizes of individual UI elements?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 07:12 AM PDT

Edit: How to *change sizes of individual UI elements?

I don't want to use the HUD size scaler in options. I was looking for something more like going to the widgetsui folder in the game's local files and changing UI element size manually - like how one would change the position of UI elements (as Nili pointed out here).

In particular, I want to increase the size of the global unit/tech queue icons, and only those, hence the in-game HUD size scale doesn't help.

Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks!

Are there Aoe2 HD game recordings (downloadable) of Dark/Feudal Age Build Orders for quick Castle Age and booming?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 06:23 AM PDT

I am a Aoe2 HD player that rediscovered the game in the last year. I am playing only Black Forest but have been able to beat the AI across all of the difficulty levels there. I have been following this sub and YouTube videos (specifically this from St4rk) to refine my Build Order. I now reach Castle Age by 17:00 to 17:30 with 28 + 1/2 but want to get still better and do it ~16:30 (eg. I find from my recordings that I let my TC idle a bit when I lure boars). I am looking for downloadable game replays of efficient DA/FA Build Orders that I can watch to get more finer details than I would from a video.

How do I improve my ranked benchmark?

    Posted: 16 Sep 2020 05:37 AM PDT

It's a laptop rather than a gaming computer but I've had no issue running the game online with large pops and multiple players. I'm not especially computer savvy, I was wondering what the best way is to optimise my speed? Should I be closing all other applications for example? And which advanced options should I select on the Graphics settings? Thanks!

    Indians vs. Infantry SUGGESTION

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 01:20 PM PDT

When it comes to 1v1s Indians are overall balanced, an average civ. Until they face infantry civs, Goths/Meso in particular. The match up is too rough.

Shatagni is their imperial unique tech, it gives +1 range to Hand Cannoneers, on paper it sounds nice, it gives them a better chance fighting Arbalesters or Onagers (no siege eng). Practically the further away the target is from the HC the less accurate it becomes. Significantly. None really does it, too exotic and expensive.

What I suggest: Shatagni also improve accuracy by 25% (65% will become ~ 81%)

Now they wouldn't pay there accuracy price, they would have the same accuracy at maximum range. Plus a nice stimulant for an Indian player to think about going for a relatively early imp when facing infantry.

And now it actually justify the high cost of 500f 300g (On top of 300f 200g of Chemistry)

    Hey!

On of our clan members made some graphical mods to help us in game. And I wanted to share them with you!

Some new cursors for better targeting of resources, especially trees.

A new cursor for target fire, that shows the area of effect of onagers.

Some idle TC, and idle Villager highlighters! And some other helpful visuals.

You can find an overview here: https://www.ageofempires.com/mods/?q=kobhv&game=2&modid=0&filter=0&status=&sort=popular&order=DESC or search kobhv in the ingame mods.

If you have feedback, please let us know. Also, eventhough he would not admit it, I know that Welpe sometime checks how many likes his mods have ;)

I'm new to aoe, i understand 50-60% of pop should mostly be villagers and idle tc is bad. However what proportions of vills should be on what at what age, broadly speaking for really elo players?

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 12:33 PM PDT

So 23 vills before feudal and 10 on wood 13 on food? What about as ages progress and late game when no gold or stone left - would the latter be 50/50 food and wood for trash?

Help a new player with a special custom hotkey setup for AoE2 DE :)

    Posted: 15 Sep 2020 03:16 PM PDT

Hey everyone, i started playing aoe2 with some friends a couple weeks ago and am currently trying to get better so I wanted to set up and memorize some custom hotkeys, but theres a catch: im actually a c6 quadraplegic which means I can move my arms and wrists but not my fingers, so i need a somewhats special setup.

Some context: At the moment i have a mouse that I modified by wiring the mouse clicks into buttons on my left hand, so i move the mouse with my right hand and use the clicks with my left palm. I also changed some of the default hotkeys of DE to go some buildings quickly without having to press the ctrl key since I can only press 1 key at a time. Still, i have to take my left palm off the mouse click to press b for barracks for example. Its also really inefficient to press the shift key and mouse click or press a 2nd key at the moment.

To solve this I decided to buy a gaming mouse with 8 buttons. I will wire 6 buttons to my left hand, and 2 of them to 2 special switches that i will be able to activate by sipping or puffing on a straw. This will allow me to press shift by sipping while having my left hand free for pressing a different key, but I still dont know what will be the best use for the rest of the buttons and the puffing switch, and still dont know what would be the best way to map the keyboard.

So I would like your help with 2 things atm.

    1. Tips as to which hotkeys/ commands are the most used so i can map those into the left hand buttons and

    2. suggestions on how to map the rest of the keyboard so I can use the building hotkeys without interfering with builder or unit commands but without using ctrl. Because a current issue I have atm is having units selected and pressing c will change their formation instead of taking me to a castle for example.

I think my starting point will be using a pro´s hotkeys but im not sure how effective thatll be for me so im open to suggestions.

Thanks for reading, I apreciate long replies :)
