About the “politically correct” changes in DE Posted: 02 Oct 2020 10:14 AM PDT Trying to be brief, since there have been lots of posts complaining about these changes: I've seen several people saying that changing terms like "colonial age" or "plantation" is political in some way. One the one hand it's true, but people shouldn't forget that the original terms and framing were also extremely political. Not saying they were good or bad, but the concept of a game which is depicting the era of European Imperialism and framing it as a glorious age of discovery and conquest - that is inherently political, there's no getting around that. [Edit: many commenters don't seem to be getting this point, since they're still complaining about "political correctness." If you think renaming the colonial age is political, but have never thought about the political implications of the term "colonial age" ... ask yourself why one bothers you but the other doesn't. Maybe some kind of bias?] In a way, sanitizing that time period by replacing all the labels with neutral terms is even more problematic. It's turning it into a Disney version of history. Renaming a plantation into an 'estate' doesn't change the historic purpose of the building, and it doesn't change who was forced to work those fields back then. So much of the contemporary world is directly influenced by imperialism in the time period depicted in aoe3. If you wanted to address the issues with glorifying that time period, you wouldn't do that by renaming a few things or changing a few mechanics, you'd have to completely redesign the entire framing of history in the game... or not remake it in the first place. A late request for the Historical Battles Posted: 02 Oct 2020 04:47 AM PDT Please say the historical battles are going to be challenging on the highest difficulty! I heard you have to finish one to unlock the next one, so I hope they haven't made them super "accessible" by making them easy to complete. I feel a lot of who plays AoE3 right now are pretty darn good at the game, and modern games with single player content has had a tendency to be quite easy even on the highest difficulty. I'm telling you devs, make me fail! [link] [comments]
Is the fire pit dance mechanic offensive or inaccurate? Posted: 02 Oct 2020 04:40 PM PDT Why would the dev change this feature just to replace it with some generic natives lingering around. Even if what they were trying to do, was to to represent their political organizational structures (which are already in the game through updates and such) instead of tribalizing them (although their dances are pretty meaningful and cool and anyone who has had the pleasure of watching them can confirm that); the best way to do so is through some kind of council making decisions on what the nation should focus on a certain moment, which should be esthetically unique for each civ. It sounds to me like a lazy fix of something that wasn't broken. What are your thoughts on the kind of changes they went with the natives? [link] [comments]
AoE 3 DE Gameplay Fixes #8327590862 Posted: 02 Oct 2020 07:46 PM PDT Does anyone know if they fixed the glitch in DE that lets you drop troops from ships over cliffs? So frustrating when you wall chokes, and then all the resources are wasted. [link] [comments]
My buddy is getting picked by the AI (Hard) online multiplayer. Posted: 02 Oct 2020 03:25 PM PDT Lately me and a buddy have been playing the AI on hard and its chewing him up. The past couple of days hes been pretty much been picked on by the AI solely. I'm a little better then him so I tend to build complete my walls and build a few more 1 or 2 more out post and a couple more soldiers. Does the AI know our defenses arent quite as good as mine and focuses him? Its to the point pretty much every game hes constantly getting attacked and I barely do. Does the AI recognize hes just slightly weaker and focus him? There are times where we are equal distance from enemys and he still gets focused. Can anyone explain? The poor bastards about to fist is monitor up [link] [comments]
Can they just let us beta test again? Posted: 02 Oct 2020 02:40 PM PDT Am I the only tester sorely missing this game? I've had to pick up aoe2 de again but it's not the same. There's a stark divide in AOE community. Those who like 2 play style and those who like 3. I guess I'm very much in the later besides playing since 2002. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Oct 2020 12:02 PM PDT So I am planning to buy aoe3:de on Steam (Kudos to earlier discussion initiated by brother) but I couldn't grasp the deal they are offering. I am an Indian and will be talking in INR, so 1) aoe3: de is INR 529, if I am getting it correct; if I already own aoe3 with all its expansion this is the amount I have to pay for DE, right? 2) aoe2:de+AoE:de+aoe3:de in INR 1142, if I already own aoe3 then this is the price 3) aoe3+aoe3:de in INR 1034, this is like buying aoe3 with all its expansion (Asian dynasties + warchiefs) with DE. Since, I don't own aoe3 which one should I buy? Will buying DE will be enough or should I take the 3rd offer? Offer 2 is not my cup of tea since I don't like AoE and aoe2 compared to aoe3. I am confused between 1 and 3. PS: I don't have aoe3 but played a lot and liked a lot but I don't know which one to buy. Does DE alone will be enough if not then I guess 3 is right choice.
