Update on the Transatlantic Diplomacy Map | Read comments |

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 04:43 AM PST

Here is a Mexico / South US map I was working on but gave up because I didn't really couldn't find a use for it, neither diplomacy (locations in this map aren't interesting enough for diplo games) neither 4v4 (map too big for it, for some reason i tougth it was a good idea to make this luducrius.

How come villagers just don't teach ballistics to ranged units?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 07:14 PM PST

    Seriously, they hit every shot.

How do you turn off the 'smart' unit attacking?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 06:34 AM PST

In the old version if you had an army and you right clicked an enemy unit, they all attacked that unit. Then you could select units within that army and micro them appropriately. Now though when I select a group and right click and enemy, they all seem to just go attack whichever enemy unit is closest to them.

As a feature this is questionable because it takes away the skill of the game in a somewhat important way, I get quality of life improvements but this is sort of a direct part of the game.

When is the best to resign?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 07:41 AM PST

It is bad manners to resign early (especially in a team game). However, it is near impossible to get your team mates to agree to resign until the force that killed you reaches their base. Also, I notice the better a player is, the more likely they are to resign at the first sign of adversity which can be a bad habit to develop.

It is also bad manners to resign late and drag out a game. It shows a lack of respect for your opponent and can be considered time wasting. I believe that a pocket should agree to resign early if his flank has been destroyed and realise that he shouldn't have boomed so much.

I am trying to come up with a rule of thumb for when the best time to resign is. Does a score difference of 20% make sense? Is it different in 1v1s and team games?

    Tarkans on Arena

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 05:57 AM PST

So guys, I played around a lot with huns in TG on Arena and i Stuck to this gameplan. Early imp (around 70-75 pop) into castle and 5 stables pumping tarkans on your way up. I always had 15-20 elite tarkans with full armor around minute 30 and full queue from 5 stables.

It catches a lot of people of guard, because they tear down gates and then tcs so quickly. You can even petard the gate for an instant surprise. They counter any arb/ram in the making and often deny forward bases, because they turn up around the time when people try to establish production outside their walls (hence the early imp time). I mostly transitioned into cav archer and trade from there, if it was not insta gg. Eventually paladin once trade was up. I think it's a nice niche strategy.

Only weakness is halb/ram, which is also cheap and fast, but I never encountered it yet.

what are your thoughts on tarkans on arena tg?

Edit: the advantage over a paladin play is that cavalier and paladin take for-friggin-ever to complete and is therefore a slow play.

    A surprising Persian bonus

    A surprising Persian bonus

This is my opponent's base at 10 minutes. I was Persians.

    https://preview.redd.it/84amk0zwpix51.png?width=3815&format=png&auto=webp&s=81645cdc7df0f5f29e6ba736e33dcc32f86559ae

I never Persian douche, just enjoy playing them, but my opponent hadn't scouted me before the 9-minute mark and panickily put together this in their base. That's idle time, wasted resources and a blocked up base for no reason.

At lower ELOs, (this is ~1100) it seems that going Incas, Persians etc. and playing normally can give you a slight edge due to your opponent's fear of the wilder strats and overreacting, especially as those strats become more popular. Obviously this wouldn't happen at higher ELOs, where scouting is much better!

    Killing enemy deer

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 06:47 AM PST

I have almost never seen any pro player killing the opponents deer in order to deny food. Scouts are just ignoring it all the time. Casters has mentioned it once or twice, but I have never seen it. What is the reason for this? Is it considered bad sportsmanship?

I mean laming an elephant is basically the same thing and is quite common, however requires extra effort, but also deals way more damage. Also new Goths meta is basically sending a villager which kills the enemy elephant. So why not the deer?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 04:24 AM PST

My friends and I are suffering from this crash-to-desktop thing. We have increased our virtual memory but with no luck, it keeps crashing.

Its really annoying when you try to play online, because you can't go back into the game.

Is there a fix for this? Thanks in advance
