    How do you fight Dutch units as Ottoman?

    This is arguably one of the worst matchups for me. I can win it, but it just seems like their units are so good against Ottoman. Most of the time I win its because my economy is bigger due to macro play and I just outboom them.

    The main problem stems from the fact that Janissaries are slow. The opponent seems to kite me around and the lack of speed prevents me from taking out my opponents units efficiently.

    So if you rush your opponent with jans, they will see this coming and inevitably train skirms. These will kite your jans and be basically unkillable without cav. They will also ship 8 pikes to deal with your 3 hussar shipment. These pikes are faster than your jans and will sit behind their skirms until your cav rush, so you can't really take them out if they're smart. A good Dutch player will know how to rotate Skirms/pikes to prevent cav from clearing the skirms or jans from clearing the pikes.

    Then in midgame is when it gets worse. Since their skirms are faster than jans, you can't touch them. If you try to train hussaurs or ship spahi, they will just gun them down with ruyuters. These ruyuters will avoid your jans at all costs while the skirms kite you to death.

    To deal with this, of course you try to build artillery and sit the jans on it to protect it. But the dutch just build culverin to deal with that. And you can't charge the culverin with cav, or they will just use ruyuters as well as their buildings as cover.

    Perhaps I can train Culverin too to contest theirs, but those are pop heavy and don't do that much when they don't have arty down

    PSA: Haitian Pirates can shoot for full damage while taking half Siege and half Ranged damage

    Turns out Cover Mode only does 3 things: Reduces incoming Siege and Ranged damage by 50%, reduces Melee and Siege damage output by 50%, and reduces speed by half. But Haitian Pirates are (iirc) unique among Cover Mode units because they have a separate Ranged attack with a card. This attack has 20 range and is not affected by Cover Mode, so it still deals it's full damage even while in Cover.

    Are there any other units like this? I'm looking forward to trying out some Cover Mode Pirates for my next couple games, but I'm unsure if it'll be as good as it sounds. Haitian Pirates are a little odd because their ranged attack counters Heavy Infantry and Light Cavalry, but their melee attack still counters Cavalry and Light Infantry.

    EDIT: Okay turns out the Ram also has Cover Mode but their Siege attack is unaffected by it, letting them deal full Siege damage while taking reduced damage themselves.

    How to play as Swedes?

    I've been massively playing as Indians and thought for a change let me try the Swedes. I've heard a lot about them so I got curious and tried them.. and man they're something!

    It was quite difficult for me to understand how they're played as I wanted to experience and understand their gameplay first hand. Although I won a 3v3 moderate battle after struggling initially I wanted to be better prepared the next time.

    From deck building to focus on economy and military, if someone can guide me in a very simplistic way that would be great!😃

    How is the Campaign now?

    I started playing the campaign once it got released a couple of months ago and had issues with the game skipping from the first campaign to the last mission in the Indian one. Is that fixed now?

    Also, the AI seemed really bugged like attack move didn't even work properly and workers would stop harvesting for no reason. Any changes that on that?

    It would be cool that unique revolutionaries with unique names (Voluntarios da Patria, Gauchos) got unique skins. Or at least, all the unique skins of comancheros, could get a portrait: DE team still makes profiles for events, so they have 2D artist around

    Hi can anyone give me tips on how to counter sweden. Recently i am being steamrolled by lower elo players who play sweden. Raiding their villes is useless as the torps generate money. They have the best infantry unit. That is really overpowered. And ulhans arr too weak for a damage sponge. What can i do. Need help.

    How on Earth does one win with sioux on the original edition?

    Hi.

    I only play normal (no treaty, no nr) 1v1, and the sioux just feel like plain awful. There is simply no way to win, no strength to be used.

    I'm not good, but I mean that I cannot win against people that I'm able to defeat with any other civ at least 50% of times. I've played dozens of games with them and have not won 1. There simply seems to be no way in which they do not suck.

    The ONLY possibility to win a game would be to rush since it is almost impossible for sioux to stand a rush themselves to FF -- their economy do not pick up. And I cannot Rush effectively with them.

    There is the 4 axe rider card which is great for raiding, but then there is no way to keep axe rider production since they are too expensive and frail, being destroyed by some musks, in which case the enemy will stabilize and then the game is over.

    And their age 2 infantry is simply useless.

    What am I missing? Are they really this awful or just hard and I'm the one who can't play them?

    The problem is that I like them and want to play them, but am afraid there is no way to win at least enough for it to be fun.
