- Reconstruction of Nicaea during the crusader siege of 1097
- Give more mapbans in TG, because alot of people are leaving games
- One of my proudest wins as a noob - against hardest AI. I love Magyars, they have no eco bonus so they are great for practicing build orders and they have good flexibility with both range and stable units. Went archer rush and transitioned into knights in Castle Age to massacre his mass skirms.
- Top players of AoE2

Posted: 21 Dec 2020 03:28 PM PST So I've noticed one thing that is pretty cool about aoe2. It seems the top players like Hera and Th post a lot of instructional YouTube videos. I think this is really cool they do it. Most top folks don't share info like this on other games. I think between Hera, Viper and T90 I've learned a lot about the game in my few short weeks. T90 low elo legends is down right hilarious. It's pretty neat. Now, these guys mechanics are as good as any top RTS player I've seen. I think that's why they are so good. They do everything faster than us. So I think what they are doing is great for the community. I remember grunt from aoe3 was very secretive and never let you record games when you played him. I played him I think three times and never once let me record. [link] [comments]
Sicilians and Burgundians make the Franks dull thematically Posted: 22 Dec 2020 04:22 AM PST This is probably my main beef with the new civs (though I'm excited to see new civs added). Normans and Burgundians render the Franks dull thematically. This is in part, I assume, because the OG AoEII civs were less "specific", much more broad. The Franks represented not only middle-age French, but also dark ages Franks and crusaders (though they shared this spot with the Teutons, who had the only military order-based UU, and Britons). Hence why they had bonus to their cavalry (something traditionnaly associated with 11-16th century France) and axe throwers (something associated with 5-9th century franks). The same issue existed with the Celts and the Turks and, to a lesser extent, the Teutons, who were used to cover vastly different eras and cultures... Now, the Sicilians officially get the "crusade theme", even though Normans are only associated with the first two crusades (and even then, the difference between a Frank and a Norman was quite blurry, at least for foreigners), while Franks/French kept crusading until the 15th century. And the Burgundians get the western european heavy cavalry theme, even though the dukedom of Burgundy was militarily known for its use of mercenaries and heavy infantry, rather than for its cavalry. This means the Franks defining theme, who was already under heavy pressure with some of the newer civs that had just as good if not better heavy cavalry, will fade even further. I know why it has happened, but I still regret it. [link] [comments]
Looking for Indian Players with 1000 to 1300 elo for playing team games. Posted: 21 Dec 2020 10:37 PM PST Hi. I am currently 1050 elo; know civs decently well; I can beat the hardest AI; and know 3 to 5 build orders properly. I live in Delhi ; Capital of the Territory of India. If any Indian wants to play together and improve their Elo together; ping me here or dm me; we can have a go at it :) Again thanks for the aoe2 community for letting me speak out. Posted: 22 Dec 2020 06:14 AM PST My wife and I like playing AOE2 together against the AI. We're looking at being without Internet for a week or two, but will still have a router. What version of AOE2 do we need to be able to play locally on LAN? Currently using DE which will not start the game without Internet even if you host it locally on LAN. [link] [comments]
I think I found the next big annoying laming strategy Posted: 22 Dec 2020 08:18 AM PST I've been playing around a bit with Turks and their new light cavskarls . I found one cool trick of their matchup is they are technically as resilient to arrow fire as knights, as their extra pa makes up for the lack of health in an xbow matchup. But that's not what I want to talk about. I want to talk about how that extra pierce armor helps in Dark Age. We've all done this mistake before: You found all your sheep, you send your scout out to find the enemy, you click to lure the boar, micro your villagers to get the boar under the TC- and oh crap you ran into the enemy TC with your scout in the moment you weren't looking. But I have noticed when I play Turks, this situation isn't as bad. My scout runs under the TC, eats a volley of arrows, thinks about his life decisions while I panicked over two him, eats another volley, (this is where every other scout dies) and then I micro him away. The extra pierce armor adds up in a big way. It got me thinking, what if I drove the enemy TC on purpose? I would probably have enough time to kill two or three sheep before the TC fire overwhelms, and its bonus if they fully garrison and I can just walk out with the sheep. I haven't had the nerve to really go in on this in ranked play. Only time I did it was a legit accident and decided to take some sheep while I was doomed under the TC. Tried it against the AI and managed to kill two sheep, but it's not like my micro was on point. I'm sure someone with better micro and more balls could make this work to the point where it's worth doing. [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Dec 2020 05:30 AM PST Messing around playing with ai skirmishes, and i'm noticing that as bulgarians, my ai never builds krepost, and even when only fighting against halbs it doesn't bother with men at arms (even though it for some reason had researched bagains) are there any civ-specific ais for download somewhere? AI Difficulty - HD version vs AI version Posted: 22 Dec 2020 01:22 AM PST Anyone found that the 'AI' version (DE edition) AI isnt as aggressive as the HD version? My friend and I have been playing the DE Edition since it came out and we've been jumping between difficulties, AI modes and AI teaming up or not and we've found that having the AI on Hard and set to the 'AI' difficulty means the AI doesnt really ever attack us like they used to. We usually expect a crazy powerful assault from them about 20 mins into a game but haven't had this happen in a while. Last night they never even attacked us all game and were pretty easy to overcome. They had massive armies but never sent them out. Was there an update recently that nerfed the AI? I seem to recall something happening about this. Or is the AI difficulty just more reserved than the HD difficulty? We'd obviously prefer the most recent AI version but its just not that fun anymore. Posted: 22 Dec 2020 01:15 AM PST Long-time but casual RTS player here - got back into the AoE series recently due to nostalgia when AoE3 DE came out. I've tried getting into AoE2 with the campaigns, but find them surprisingly difficult (even the easy ones...) Seems like there's a good, helpful community on here - anyone got any tips for how I can get better at this game? [link] [comments]

Posted: 22 Dec 2020 12:53 AM PST I've been playing this game since I was 7 years old I started playing on my dad's old Windows XP pc and I've always only played against AI or with friends against AI. I also really enjoy playing the campaigns. I'm currently trying to complete every campaign on Hard difficulty. I thought to myself; Okay, maybe after 20 years I should test my skills against other players! So I joined a 1v1 ranked match for the first time. Shouldn't be that hard to win right? I'll probably get matched with player of a similar skill level. Nope. I got absolutely destroyed. While I was still building up my army in the Castle Age I suddenly get 50 fully upgraded frankish Paladins in my base. Do you guys think I need to lose some more to get to play with people with of skill level? Or am I just really that bad. I use hotkeys as much as possible, take advantage of my civ bonuses of course, I watch TheViper regularly to learn how to play against players and I used to watch a lot of ZeroEmpires tutorials back in the day. Posted: 22 Dec 2020 08:03 AM PST Hi! I am looking for mates to play team games on AOE 2 DE. My current ELO is 1100 in 1v1 and 1400 in TG. It would be great if you would have a microphone and Discord, and speak either English, French, or Dutch. Send me a MP on Reddit to exchange our Steam IDs! [link] [comments]
I have some questions about Burgundians. Posted: 22 Dec 2020 12:23 AM PST I know that there was a time when Burgundy was not part of France, but how did they end up becoming part of France in later years? And what other historical significance does Burgundy have aside from Hundred Years' War? And while we're at it, what kind of language do you think Burgundians use in the game? P.S. This DLC has only included civilizations with no coinciding modern country. P.P.S. I hope that they add another DLC with Siamese and maybe Lao included. [link] [comments]
