Introduce a beta program for future patches/DLCs

    Posted: 27 Jan 2021 01:51 AM PST

    Dear Devs!

The problems are well known by now: Every time we get a big update with new features and bug fixes (for which we are truly grateful!), we also get new bugs. We understand that working with a legacy engine is not easy and bugs in general won't be that big of a problem if they weren't so obvious and severe (Lithuanian relic bug, 166% Malay age up, TG late-game powerpoint, crashes, and the list goes on...).

Don't get me wrong, the latest patch is amazing and the intended changes both balance- and gameplay-wise are highly appreciated amongst the community, but there are also bugs that really shouldn't make it into the game.

I kindly ask you to introduce beta testing program for insiders (public beta, everyone can be Age insider). I mean what could be better than motivated players with different system configurations offering their time for free to report bugs? Give us a few days, and we will definitely find the most obvious bugs, which you can fix before you release the new patch to the public.

Something has to be done about this problem and if you don't have the resources for enough playtesting we gladly offer our support to help you out in this concern.

The process could be like this: - release the patch as beta version - release the patch notes to the public so everyone can discuss them - beta testers play the game and report bugs (would make sense to have a separate "beta-bugs" category in the forum) - bugs will be fixed/small adjustments will be made according to community feedback - release the patch to the public

Edit: Thank you for the nice and constructive feedback in the comments, I really appreciate it!

Poorly made meme about sicilian gameplay

Please read before posting. I’ve been browsing NEW the past couple of days

    1. Yes we all know the Lithuanian relic bug. The devs know too.
    2. Yes we all know the Tech Tree HP bug. The devs know too.
    3. Yes we all know the achievements bug. The devs know too.
    4. X on the new civ is overpowered? Maybe, maybe not. Everyone is still trying to figure out how to counter them and the devs are collecting data on how to properly balance them.
    5. You don't want to play the game until the next rebalance patch? Cool story bro. I don't know you or the 1000 other people that have posted the same thing.
    6. The Burgundians play like the Franks? Sort of. The Burgundians use power spikes to gain an advantage while the Franks are more of a slow burn. Also it would feel weird if they sort of didn't feel like the Franks considering history.
    7. You don't think the Flemish revolution or the Serjeants building donjons fits with the spirit of any of the Age of Empires games. Poor Age of Mythology.
    8. Anyone know anything about the Italians rebalance? Anyone? I guess not. :(

Tech Tree needs to be updated

    Posted: 27 Jan 2021 01:38 AM PST

The current state of the tech tree is abysmal.

I understand, they want to keep it as simple as possible but on the other hand, they omit essential information.

To give you a better overview, let's look at Sicilians from the new DLC. They have a civilization bonus which reduces incoming bonus damage for land units by 50%. While it is a neat bonus to have, it has zero informational value for players that do not know about the wiki. It is good to know the damage is reduced, and how much but from what damage? If you look at the wiki let's say for Halbedier, you can see that +32 damage against cavalry is reduced to 16. Good, so to apply this bonus you have to search on the internet about the information/mechanics which is essential to the game. No workaround, no guide inside the game.

The next couple of examples would be (given the most played speed mode is normal 1.7x speed):

    - No information about the training and building time of the units/buildings.

    - Persian's Kamandaran Unique Tech (Archer-line gold cost is replaced by additional wood cost). To actually test it you have to get into a game and research it to see it is a static bonus which makes archer cost 60 wood instead of 25 wood and 45 gold

    - No information about the bonus damage of units

    - Viking's Berserk slowly heals itself (no clue about the heal ratio). Further improved by Unique Tech Berserkergang which improves their healing rate (yet we do not know about the rate)

    - Viking's unique tech Chieftains (infantry deals bonus damage against cavalry). No information about the strength of the bonus.

    - Japenese's tech Yasama (towers shoot extra arrows). But how many?

You know where this is going...

One of the possible improvements would be the ability to click on the unit/building and see the specific bonuses, extended information about the training time, building time for buildings, and more.

Acceptable to Alt-f4 Lithuanians right now?

    Posted: 27 Jan 2021 03:38 AM PST

I hate when players alt f4 out a game to avoid playing a map.

In my mind it's cheating to get a better elo by playing to you strengths.

After I lost yesterday to Lithuanians with plus 15 attack, I will not be playing against them until it is fixed.

Anyone else think we should be banning, via alt f4 Lithuanians for now. If a cheat has to que for 20 mins because most of us won't stand for it they'll soon pick another civ.
