Now Available: the Public Update Preview (PUP) program! Posted: 01 Mar 2021 04:56 PM PST https://steamcommunity.com/games/813780/announcements/detail/3020197857796238160 --- Now Available: the Public Update Preview (PUP) program!Hello everyone! Today we're trying something new with an experimental program inspired by feedback from you—the Age II community! We're calling this the Public Update Preview program, or "PUP" for short. These Update Previews will not only provide a sneak peek to owners of the game, but an opportunity for passionate players to step up, be recognized, and help us squash issues before they ever arise. Starting today, everyone that owns Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition on Steam will have immediate access to the Public Update Preview. This is a publicly-available, Steam 'BETA' branch accessible via your Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition properties menu. Opting into it will give you access to game content that is actively in development for the next game update. These builds will sometimes contain new features, content, or bug fixes—it really depends on what we happen to be doing at the time—but it means that you're invited to take a step behind the curtain and preview everything that's coming to the game in the weeks leading up to a release. Whenever we make these builds available, you'll see a Public Update Preview branch appear in your Steam 'BETA' list with a name similar to this month's branch:
You don't need to redeem any keys or use any passwords; the branch will show up whenever a build is available, and we'll post in our channels to let you know it's there. This is an experiment for us, and you should expect that we'll change how we're doing this over time as we learn the best way to engage with you, collect your feedback, and make sure this process is having the best possible impact on your game's updates. We won't be able to fix everything you may find or change everything you suggest, but our hope is that you'll see your feedback represented over time and, together, enhance the value of the official updates we introduce to the game. This afternoon, we're launching with build #45513, which primarily contains a number of bug fixes. We plan to update the build throughout this process and as batches of fixes or changes come in, but for now, you can start discussing the build and reporting issues in the brand-new PUP forum: Once we're ready to start prepping for the update to go Live, a few things will happen:
That's it; those are most of the details you need to get started right away, and we'll continue building our FAQ over time as you ask your questions about the Public Update Preview program. Please join us in strengthening the quality of Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition by sharing your voice—we're definitely listening, and looking for every opportunity to make this the game you love to play :) See you on the battlefield! —The World's Edge Team [link] [comments]

New here, are the civs very different? Posted: 02 Mar 2021 04:41 AM PST From the outside, it looks like I can pick up any civ and play them with the same strategy, so that the civ I have doesn't make a huge difference. Is that observation correct, at least at lower skill levels? [link] [comments]
Machine gun Castle trigger in custom games ? Posted: 02 Mar 2021 05:46 AM PST Hello guys, i'm making a custom game with a simple concept : 1 player vs 4 others one. The player who is alone will have a fortress and must defend his Wonder from the attacks of the 4 others ones. The solo player will have many castles, many walls protecting his wonder and some time before his 4 opponents will go full anger mode on him and try to destroy him. But i have some problems to make my scenario and i would like some help ^^ :
The only solution i find was to set the wonder on "build mode", so the player would have to build it with his villagers. We only see the foundations and the player must build his wonder which takes some time and then after, we have 300 years to destroy it before he wins. It's better than nothing but it's a disadvantage for the solo player because he loses some time to build his only "win chance". 2) I want to make the solo player Castle completely OP. I want to improve their range, attack, HP, make them really hard to kill and increase the shooting speed like a sub machine gun. I found the triggers for the range, for the attack speed too, the HP (easy) but i don't understand the attack trigger. How to improve the Castle's attack ? If i want that the Castle get 200-300 attack, how do i do ? Also why there is a trigger for "displayed attack" and a trigger for "attack" ? Why the simple fact of increasing the attack doesn't show through description ? It's should goes one with another. Which trigger should i use to increase the number of arrows ? If i want the Castle to shoot like 200-300 arrow at once, how do i do ? And the armor thing, can i make the Castle more resistant against one type of damage? Which trigger should i use for that? If i want for example that he only takes 10 HP dmg per catapult shoot, what can i do aside of increasing HP ? If someone has answer to my questions, it's would be great ^^. [link] [comments]

Some LEL questions about 3v3 pocket/ flank Meta Posted: 02 Mar 2021 02:29 AM PST Hello people, I know the meta is that the pocket player in a 3v3 plays a cav civ and the flanks go archers and that it's also recommended to have the overall strongest player as pocket. I get that it makes sense for the pocket player to have mobility. But why is it the meta to have both flanks go archers? Couldn't you apply faster pressure on your opposing flank with a scout build? And why is it advisable to have the strongest player in the position that is most likely getting pressured the least? I'm sure there's good (and pretty obvious) reasoning behind this, but please, try to open my eyes to it. Also, general tips for 3v3 RM are very welcome. [link] [comments]
Low ELO MegaRandom Tourney! 1v1 <1200 Posted: 01 Mar 2021 08:47 PM PST Do pesky things like build orders and being a worse player get in the way of you winning? Are you finding getting spanked by Franks scouts into knights on Arabia has decreased your standard of living? Sounds like you need a little bit of RNG added to your games! The Low ELO Random Cup (LERC) is an all MegaRandom Full Random Civ 1v1 tournament with some additional shenanigans thrown in there. Join the discord to read the rules, sign up, and get more info! Do you still transition Scouts into Archers if you're playing an Infantry Civ in Team Games? Posted: 02 Mar 2021 04:04 AM PST Zero Empires said in this video that you normally want to transition from scouts into archers when playing the flank in team games, when doing a scout rush. I normally play Slavs on flank so I have average archers in Feudal. Going into Castle, Slav archers are below-average, and I feel like these are wasted troops (since I shouldn't be getting the crossbow upgrade, at least I think). Isn't it more reasonable to transition into skirms or maybe even double-down on cav by making a 2nd stable? (leaning toward the former, as skirms counter spears) (Also, if I'm fighting against an archer civ (ex: Britons), would I just want skirms or is it also worth getting archers/some archers? or even doubling down on cav?) We need a more sophisticated random civ pick choice Posted: 01 Mar 2021 05:30 PM PST I'm thinking that sometimes I feel like diving into ranked with random civ but also practicing my archer rush and end up getting Spanish on gold rush. Fairly good civ, but not what I was rooting for. Since random civ ranked is, in my opinion, the best way to improve, I'd love to get an option where I can get a civ among some, banning others. This way, if I feel like going for archers, I could pick Britons, Ethiopians, Italians, Koreans, etc and get to play the game I wanted, but still get the rush and thrill of randomness. I think that this would be particularly good in TG ranked also, since I never pick random civ in fear of getting a cavalry civ in the flank or an archer civ in the pocket. What do you think? Edit: OK, so I've just discovered that this exists. It's a great tool and works great for the problem I pointed out. Cheers to A. Kammerer for such a great work. [link] [comments]

Anyone knows how zoom level affects clicking errors? Posted: 02 Mar 2021 07:32 AM PST I play on a 1440p monitor so I have the ability to zoom out at a pretty far distance. I've found that my error rate in clicking and selecting units is pretty high when fully zoomed out. For instance if I try to select one villager around a saturated gold mine I will click 2 by accident very often fully zoomed out. I'm looking to zoom my game inward more than I have it now if it will help with reducing mistakes so I can increase my apm. Is there any consensus on what the best zoom level for this is? Maybe by counting the amount of tiles visible at the start of a match. [link] [comments]
What is the best but most overlooked or underrated civ? Posted: 01 Mar 2021 01:53 PM PST I've always felt Magyars with their less than op bonuses is underappreciated. But no other civ gets dull arbs and full paladins. And then hussars Magyar hussars and excellent cav archers. Most people think just scouts and cav archers. People get locked into the idea that each civ has a main meta. What have you found out that other people haven't noticed? [link] [comments]
