    Strelets vs State Militia and Regulars vs Muskeeters

    I've been thinking about this and State Militia kind of seem pretty good, while Regulars aren't? Here are some numbers first before discussion. I'm going to do Sharpshooters vs Skirmishers tomorrow as well I think, but if not, then soon. I'm a little lazy so I'm not looking at Imperial stats with all upgrades, but I am mentioning those things as a point of consideration.

    (Note: for Ratios, the bigger the number, the better the ratio)

    --Strelet--

    Cost: 37.5f 10w (47.5)

    HP: 72

    HP/Cost ratio: 1.51

    Damage: 4 melee/8 ranged

    Received: 30% ranged resist

    Multipliers: x2 Heavy infantry (x3 with CIR), x2 light ranged cavalry, 0.75x cavalry

    Rate of Fire: 3

    Range: 14

    Ranged Damage/Cost ratio: 0.16

    Damage/Cost against heavy infantry: 0.32

    Strelets vs State Militia: I think we can safely conclude that State Militia are an upgrade over Strelets. Their higher HP pools make them less vulnerable to artillery and splash attacks, and their higher base damage gives them more flexibility against non-heavy infantry targets than Strelets as well. State Militia also have 5 speed instead of 4.5, making them better at pulling out of bad engagements, and State Militia with upgrades are going to far out-perform anything Strelets could ever dream of. In fact, late game Volunteers in Industrial are arguably better than Regulars, with higher HP pools, more damage to infantry, better ranged resist, and just overall more cost-effective. State Militia also have higher health pools than Skirmishers and similar damage, making even Veteran State Militia incredibly good mass skirmisher units overall.

    Regulars vs Musketeers: Conversely, Regulars seem to be a downgrade in efficiency from the basic musketeer in virtually every way except range. It's hard to quantify exactly how much of a difference range makes, but in testing I did for cost, 11 musks (1100 res) beat 10 regs (1100 res) pretty much every time, especially in a straight fight. Even with good micro, Regulars can't seem to utilize their 2 range all that much even with pinpoint precise micro, and 11 musks beat 10 Regs with usually 6-8 survivors. If we used a more accurate resource ratio, valuing gold over food, then you could reasonably field probably 13 Musks to every 10 Regs, meaning that basically Regs are outclassed by regular Musks in terms of cost and numbers, and regular Musks usually have better shipments and support as well. I think Regulars may need to be looked at because they just get massacred by regular Musks.

    tl;dr Once you get vet State Militia with card upgrades, they are basically better than Regulars, and Regulars get murdered by similar resources of normal Musks. State Militia are incredibly cost-effective and unlocking their potential may be the key to making the US work in the current meta.

    Stay tuned, tomorrow I plan on comparing Skirms and Cass to Sharpshooters, and we'll see how that turns out.

    Complete World Map in AOE3

    With the upcoming Africa expansion, we'll only need maps in Europe, Oceania, and the Middle East (which they've already made a map for) to complete the world map in aoe3. I'm not sure if aoe1 or 2 completed the world map, but it would be really cool if aoe3 could. Add in a few extra civs and I think we'd be set.

    Improving the AI at higher difficulties

    I play against the AI a lot (actually that's all I play) and I love when AI enemies are frustratingly challenging or when AI allies are helpfully proactive.

    Currently I feel that the Indian, Japanese, Chinese, Dutch, Russian, British, Inca AI are really well done. Thanks devs! They are aggressive and put up a good fight, particularly in the early ages. This is not to say that the other civs aren't good, just that I get particularly satisfying battles when I play against these AI.

    Currently a few issues with the AI:

    1. AI allies are sometimes too passive. Their military is good but it's just sitting there in the base.

    2. AI still cannot play maps with water. Two problems of this type: firstly, the AI cannot transport units in maps such as Amazonia or Caribbean. Secondly, on mostly land maps with some water, the AI chooses a naval deck, which really isn't necessary since majority of the fighting will be on land. It overinvests in navy and doesn't build a good enough land military.

    3. On higher difficulty 1v1, the AI sometimes tries to FF, notably the Ottomans these days. It is no fun to be able to kill the hardest AI with a simple rush because it's trying to FF.

    4. Aztecs don't build enough nobles' huts in a standard 1v1 game. The cards that they send aren't good for rushing either, given that Aztecs have tremendous rush potential.

    5. Sometimes the AI starts overcollecting coin and does nothing with it. It doesn't know how to use the market as far as I have seen. So there's the coin, lying unused while the AI base is burning.

    6. AI needs to build more military buildings, in general, on the harder difficulties, so that destroying a few military buildings doesn't end the game fast. Ideally they should send some vils away when their base is overrun to try a rebuild a hidden base somewhere else. The AI in AoE2 does this.

    7. US AI doesn't know to use its military wagons. It also tried to send an arsenal wagon to build a forward arsenal where I was attacking. So the poor wagon ended up dying.

    8. AI doesn't upgrade the hp and attack of villagers/settlers. It should at least try to make its villagers harder to kill. Late game settlers should have at least 202 hp.

    Feel free to add more. I hope there are people who enjoy playing against the AI and care about the improvement of the AI in the game, at more advanced difficulties.

    Where can I find a good in depth tutorial for aoe3

    Game crashing as I launch a match

    So loaded a random scenario battle before without issue. Only 'match' I have played prior to this, I only bought AoE3 DE last week. But trying to play for the USA challenge and I loaded the 2nd map three times. Each time as I pressed launch, it crashed. I have had some issues with AoE2 DE edition bit man. This is rough.

    Anyone able to help/work out the problem?

    So I literally had a jap teammate who shrined both of my starting hunts so I shipped 15 bison as lakota. Then he comes and shrines my bisons as well. Do jap players even know they're supposed to shrine other team's hunts?

    How many settlers should you make in the first age before aging up?

    Assuming you're playing a faction that can't make settlers while aging, is there a benchmark of the amount of settlers you should make before aging up from Discovery to Commerce? I tend to enjoy making lots of settlers and get a nice little economy going, but usually my opponent will age up faster than me and smash up my poor little settlement with a rush.

    Holy crap, I sent arty and skirms against pure regular spam as the dutch, kept 200 pop, and somehow they won. I'm a Sarg and this guy was obv a noob. Regulars are basically super musks and their cav has double shot. and their econ is ridiculous, like SA rev with imperial

    Hey,im having some struggles with the mentioned quest (Building 3 Town Centers).I've made 2 matches on Bayou but i couldnt earn the quest. Someone else having this issue, too?

    Edit: seems like AOE3 is down, i cant get a connection to the serves, maybe thats the problem

    Is there anything that can be done to improve AI reaction to signals?

    Extreme difficulty skirmish appears to be impossible if the other 2 AI just focus attack you, as your AI doesn't ever respond or help you base. EVER.

    I have tried everything I can think of and can find?

    Is this just screwed or is there a good mod out there or something?
