| Red Bull Wololo IV appreciation post (no spoilers) Posted: 28 Jun 2021 03:19 AM PDT So, Red Bull Wololo IV is over and I must say it was amazing! The production quality was top and felt very proffessional, the level of play was insane, especially in the final set. Having Nili and Memb casting in the same studio was not only nice to see after all what happened in the last year, but also it was very funny and entertaining. I really hope that in the future we will also have random map tournaments produced by independent sponsors like Red Bull with such high quality. Huge shoutout to Red Bull, TakeTV, the casters, the players and congrats to the winner! Since it's already announced, I'm really looking forward to Red Bull Wololo V. [link] [comments] | ||

Just a short post to inform you that, after all the emotions of Red Bull Wololo Cup IV Tournament, AoE2 action won't stop. LocoSer (a fantastic Argentinian caster) will host the Collection Cup, including the best players in the world, and including those who have just finished their participation in RBW4. The main event starts on July 1st, but between 28th-30th June, last round of qualies will take place, featuring beasts like Lord DauT, Capoch, Vinchester, Jordan, Nicov, Tatoh, Dogao, BacT, Nili and many more. For Arena lovers, Masters of Arena 6 qualies are also taking place. JonSlow and DRACKEN are doing a great job with this Tournament (main Event starts on July 15th). I think that one of the best finals ever was that between Tatoh and TheViper in Clown Cup 3, and I wish this tournament to equal it in emotion. Have a nice week! [link] [comments] | ||

| Empire Wars game mode - thoughts? Posted: 28 Jun 2021 01:04 AM PDT What are your thoughts on empire wars as a game mode for tourneys? I'm happy for the winner and the tournament was enjoyable. It is also a nice change of pace. But at least for me as a lowly viewer, it seems a bit one dimensional. Essentially every game you have a very messy, aggressive feudal/age2 scramble, then both players go age3. Games are then very often won by some sort of fortress all-in with mangonels and/or massing crossbows. Aside from some eagle or knight civs, games are mostly won by having a mass of crossbows, preserving your mass into castle age and/or imperial age. Other things that the game is usually about and that I feel also define aoe2, dont play as big of a role. Just standard map control plays, more boomy games, slow, incremental advantage, scouting carefully or even fast castle, turtle, boom etc basically don't matter. I find that a bit sad. Thoughts? | Redbull Wololo organizers - please do more in depth interviews next time! Posted: 27 Jun 2021 01:10 PM PDT Really fun tournament, awesome games (don't worry, no spoilers here). I just wish the interviews had more to them. 1) They're very short, like 1-3 questions. I know in some cases the player has to go play the next games soon after, and a balance has to be struck. But I think they could manage 5 minutes instead of 2 minutes. 2) The questions are very shallow! Questions like "how did you feel?" or "what are you going to do now?" or "what would you like to say to your fans?" These questions always have the same, uninteresting answers. Instead please ask about the games! I want to know why a player made a strategic decision or why they drafted a civ or what they think about a map. I think this was partly due to the interviewer, rlyknght, being inexperienced in aoe. He's done a good job with other aspects, but maybe would have been good to have a more knowledgeable person (like nili for example) either ask the questions or write them out for rlyknght before the interviews.
