    Hi all! First of all, I know that this topic has already been discussed a bit, but I really want to read your opinions about it.

    Since the two big necessary nerfs that Spanish underwent (Conqs before receiving the archer armor were nearly unbeatable and the +33% gold for trading was a huge pop efficiency advantage for Team Games once the trade route was established), Spanish have been going down especially in 1v1 pick rate (not win rate, as I always say, I'm not looking for a balanced 50% win rate for every civ). In Two Pools Tournament (a 2v2 Tournament in which opposing team chose a civ for you wanted for you), Spanish were among the most picked for that purpose, so it seems that their strong team bonus is only considered for 3v3 or maybe 4v4?

    Nowadays the map that suits best the Spanish bonuses is Nomad, thanks to faster TC build + FC into Conqs. There they have the 2nd best win rate and 2nd pick rate, which is very good. But Nomad has a play rate of 2.16% (less of course than Arabia and Arena, but also less than 4 Lakes and Golden pit, and more or less the same as African clearing, Megarandom, Hideout and Goldrush). Even pro-players do favor in Nomad civs like Persians, Malians, Italians, or even Mongols, Lithuanians and Japanese over them, and Spanish appear as the anti-best-Nomad civ, since they counter pretty well Malian, Persian and Mongol play (see latest Collection Cup).

    We are also seeing that for maps of the Hidden Cup, Visible Cup, RBW4 (Empire Wars start) or in Masters of the Arena qualifiers they are not much favored. I've seen them 15 times picked summing the 4 tournaments. And we're talking about hundreds of games! In islands the kings are Ports, Italians and Viks and if not Malay Saracen Japanese have an edge. In Arena their Siege+monk push is worse than others and castle drop seems their only viable strategy, very predictable. In closed land maps they are regarded as one of the top10, but according to their pick rate, that is not true, and Malay, Britons, Turks, Celts and Byzantines are for example, very above them.

    The biggest flaw in Spanish play is the lack of an early economy bonus, but even if we forget about it, we also see that Conqs are great until the opponent upgrades to Elite Skirm, and their late game with their strongest units (monk bbc paladin HC Cannon Galleon + goldless blacksmith FU trash) is really difficult to get to. Of course, we must agree that Spanish late game is very good, no complaints here. So they seem to have a play that is not very strong if you don't manage to deal a lot of damage with Conqs (like in Nomad) or you survive until Imperial Age, and all of this is very difficult without an eco bonus. They only save 150 gold for a knight rush or 50 gold for an unexpected archer rush. Buildings being built 30% faster don't make a big deal except for the first TC in Nomad or a Castle drop. They save a ton of gold but that's only if you tech all blacksmith upgrades, and don't forget that Conqs cost food and gold, unlike Cav Archers.

    What I miss most about them is an identity so that we can say, in other maps than Nomad "Spanish can be an option here". So I suggest some options:

    - An early game eco bonus: This idea would make them viable in open land maps, and depending on what type of eco bonus we would give them, in hybrid maps. For example, if we make Double-Bit Axe and Horse Collar food free (175 food saved in Feuadal Age), it would improve open land maps. If we reduce Feudal Age advance Food cost by 25% (to 375 - 125 food saved in Dark Age), both open and hybrid maps would be favored.

    - Skirm buff: This idea was proposed by a redditor 4 years ago. Since Spanish lack xbow, any civ with strong archers + eco bonus would get a huge edge in Feudal Age against Spanish. His ideas were "Skirms fire 20% faster", "Skirms +1 pierce armor", "Skirms +1 range" or "Skirms +1 or+2 vs archers".

    - Missionaries identity: Would it be too much to give missionaries (the least used UU) an identity by letting them pick relics? This would give the Spanish a totally new advantage in relic picking for maps like Arena. They are already the most vulnerable monks to spears, and if nobody uses them except for memeing/cheeseing, it's because they have no good use. The lack of early eco bonus could be overcome with faster monks (Fervor/Husbandry/Bloodlines wouldn't be researched in Early Castle Age).

    - Leave them as they are. That means that, with their niche as a good Nomad civ and a good team bonus for a mediocre pocket civ (Yes, they get Paladins, but the rest of Paladin civs get there faster) it would be enough for them.

    Game crashes and misaligned timeline after new Patch

    I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this, but my game has crashed twice since the new patch. The game just stopped running during a multiplayer team game and returned me back to the desktop. Also, we noticed that after the team games, the names were not matching to the colours on the timeline. Anyone else facing these issues?

    Mayans uptime - im confused

    Hello Community, I started recently and play mostly Mayans! (1k elo)

    I'm confused about what a good uptime should be. So far I understand that the +1 vil bonus isn't actually a bonus for Dark age as I must research loom first (IMO loom makes dark age way smoother though).

    But what does that mean for the feudal uptime in comparison to generic civ? For example for 23 pop archer. Does that mean I go 23 pop up but 25s earlier? Does that mean I should go 24 pop?

    What's your 'hidden gem' civ or strat for a map/situation that they aren't often used?

    I've been getting into a traditionally underpicked and underrated 1v1 Arabia civ which is Malay, who are great for super early Feudal aggression which doesn't screw with your eco or involve very micro-intensive deer pushing etc. Go up at 22 pop and you arrive as early as if you'd gone 19 pop, but with a much more solid eco behind it! I know their transitions aren't great in lategame but as someone whose win rate vs game length looks like this and whose speed and micro ability looks like this they're perfect. I know they're a popular water civ and Viper must have increased their popularity in Arena but I feel like I very rarely see them picked on Arabia if ever.

    For me, it's Spanish. I know that they're not great for online play. But I always get a ton of nostalgia from the El Cid campaign and used to love training hordes of conquistadors as a kid vs the AI.

    Hi,

    I have an issue appearing in some of my games. I must do a wrong shortcut without knowing it, but my camera sometimes start to "follow" a group of unit, moving so that the group is always at the center. Which is very confusing.

    How is this shortcut named, so that I can properly disable it ? :)
