As an alternative I thought I could at least fluff up my understanding of the history behind AOE2 with some books. Persians can do the Lithuanian instant drush without TC idle time Posted: 07 Aug 2021 09:14 AM PDT Originally, when the strat came out, persians were ruled out from this because of their 10% faster vill production in dark age. That was removed, now its possible. Its slightly different than the lithuanian version, since persians dont need to get wood for their 2nd house, but need to collect food faster. It also somewhat forces you into loom at 9-10 supply because you need the 50 food for the 2nd militia, Alternatively, you can delay the 2nd militia about 1 minute. Thats not a small investment, but i'd say its not terrible either. At the very least, youre not cutting vills by having your TC idle. Build order is pretty much : 2 vills house -> food, 1 vill barracks -> 2nd house, rest on food. Once your food eco has stabilised to sustain vills - build house to get past 15 supply. Now youre out of wood and need straggler trees for your lumber camp. Your boar is beeing harvested at this point. Id say the advantage is its easier in the first minutes, theres no shortage of lumber and you wont get supply blocked - but it faces the same challenges as scouting your opponent in time. You wont have TC idle time if you pull this off correctly, but it still hurts your economy slightly becasue youre harvesting stragglers and have loom that early. Why do it with persians? I dont think its nessassarily better than from lithuanians, but its something your opponent wont expect. [link] [comments] | ||

Is smurf the only way to escape from TG spanish in Nomade? Posted: 08 Aug 2021 07:18 AM PDT I only play TG with my friends, and nomade used be our favorite map. But ever since we past 2k in TG elo, we only face a minimal civ pool, which are Spanish with their fuckking annoying conq, persian, berber, malian, and mongol (this is from our experience, but stat from https://aoestats.io/map/nomad/RM_TEAM/1650+ do support my claim). We don't really like any of those civ, so we always end up having tier 3 civ against S tier civ on nomade, which make game unfair and unfun for any sensible player (go fuckk those players who like perma stomp). We always enable all random, but those player are just thirsty for those lp and it's getting annoying. So what can I do to play against something else except inting to get my elo low enough or just buy a smurf? I'll also add that normal queue is not possible, because every game is a coinflip where we stomp or get stomp, so I only play ranked to have even match. I'll take any advice to face those civs, but me being able to win against them doesn't change the facts that I'm getting tired to faces those civ. [link] [comments] | ||

I'm hovering around 1000 elo ranked so I am immediately analyzing the match up, thinking offensive knights and be ready to counter conqs. I reach imp and have about 20ish cavalier ready. Next thing I see are about 30 of his villagers castle dropping. I thought no big deal. I killed them, then 30 more show up. He starts rushing my castles with vils. Then it clicks, the Spanish unique tech for vils. I gave him the 11 and called the GG. Just curious what other crazy strats people have experienced or used. This one got me good. Website for Clan leaderboard/stats? Posted: 08 Aug 2021 04:30 AM PDT I came across a website a little while back that allowed me to see the elo of all the members in my clan as a leaderboard, and possibly some other clan-related stats (I can't remember exactly). However now I can't find it again, and am wondering if anyone here knows of anything like this? Food Bonuses and Infantry Civs. Posted: 07 Aug 2021 12:09 PM PDT This is yet another post where I inundate the subreddit with too much information related to off-meta concepts that few people care about. Today I'll be talking about infantry civs and their food eco. This is all just food for thought, not meant to be definitive advice. That being said all the numbers/relations expressed should be correct to within a useful degree of accuracy. Here's a brain teaser to start off. What is the relationship that exists between:
Given that, what claims must be true to infer things about unknown build orders? Anyway onto the post. Everyone knows food post-dark-age is pretty time consuming to obtain. It's relatively slow to farm and on top of that you also have to build a farm. At 60 wood each that's pretty pricey to only get 175/250 food back. So naturally there's a hesitancy toward using food heavy units like militia. Lucky for us the developers gave basically every infantry related civ a bonus which reduces the cost to obtain food, saves food, or improves the cost efficiency of infantry. So this post should serve as a repository for looking at infantry civs buffs as they relate to food. The game has 11 civs which are considered "Infantry" civs. These are: Aztecs, Bulgarians, Celts, Goths, Incas, Japanese, Malians, Sicilians, Slavs, Teutons, Vikings. There's also a few other civs with infantry UUs who have bad cavalry or bad archers: Ethiopians, Franks, and Malay. There's also Burmese who get an infantry bonus. Malay elephants are good but also food heavy so this still applies to them. Quite literally all 15 of these civs have tools to increase their food in the early or mid game. Some more than others (looking at you Incas.....). All of these civs have supplies or are Goths. Many also have direct infantry buffs early in the game improving cost effectiveness.
So assuming the incas get extra llamas or something similar that's 15/15 civs with a decent sized food relatable bonus and/or infantry buff and it covers a wide range from small to large. So what's the point of this post? The point is that I personally think it is almost impossible for "infantry cost too much food" to be universally true. I think it's unlikely to even be generally true for infantry civs, at least it's certainly not true to a high degree of confidence. There are just some incredibly strong food bonuses in the game, especially teutons and vikings. I also think buried in here somewhere is some type of competitive build order for something -> longswords + support. The biggest reason for this is that to my knowledge no one has a build order that reflects the best longswords or infantry UU can do. It would be one thing for a commonly known build order to exist and everyone knows "yeah this build order is the best you can do and it still sucks". It's an entirely different thing to assume every infantry build order will have that outcome. E.g. siege, towers, and pikes all complement infantry in different ways offensively and defensively. Stone walls hinder enemy mobility severely for only twice the cost of palisades. Given all of these complements available, I for one am not prepared to say that good players are so uncreative that they couldn't make longswords meta under current circumstances. The fact that the competive meta doesn't include them currently could be due to any number of reasons, only some of which allow the conclusion that they aren't meta because they are bad. Which brings me back to the brain teaser at the beginning of the post. But this post is long enough so that's enough food for thought assuming you (the reader) made it this far. My game keeps freezing throughout the matches Posted: 08 Aug 2021 03:40 AM PDT It happens in both multiplayer & single player. Throughout the game every minute or two it'll freeze for a few seconds and then everything will speed up to catch back up to live-time. Things I have tried is validating game files and moving the installation from my HHD to my SSD. Anyone else's experience this? It makes it unplayable and frustrating especially when I get into battle and it seems to become more frequent at those times. [link] [comments] | ||
