    Girlfriends, wives, etc

    Posted: 20 Sep 2021 02:20 AM PDT

We all love AoE 2. But what about our significant others? Do they find it stupid that you sit in front of the computer to kill huskarls or collect relics? Do they share your passion? Do they let you play with no interruptions? Do they talk to you the moment you put on your noise cancelling headphones?

I'm interested to see how is your situation. I have friends who stop playing the moment their SO come home. Others who doesn't care. My girlfriend is on the fence. She finds video games a waste of time, I find her yoga a waste of time (not really, just kidding). So we manage kind of ok 😄 . I think she's got used to me playing at night. That way she can read and also have time for herself. I also told her it's my way to relax, even though actually playing 1v1 makes me even more stressed 11

By the way, She is polish (I'm Argentinian) so I'm talking to her like the polish villagers and this added some sympathy points to the game.

    So, what about you guys?

RBW5, Casters overly critizising players for off-meta choices

    Posted: 20 Sep 2021 06:57 AM PDT

Rbw5 was an amazing event, and I want to say that everyone did an amazing job, including the casters.

I just want to say, I felt that vinchester got too much flak from the casting team for picking poles - or other players like MBL when he picked burmese.

I fully understand that T90 is a top level player himself, but for me - it just takes away when the whole narrative of some games becomes - "I dont like poles, I'm telling you poles is a bad civ". Vinch loses a pretty close game. Then, "see i told you poles was a bad civ". Then its brought up over the next days, whenever vinchester is mentioned.

I dont fully understand why you'd pick poles or burmese there. But those players are in the top 16 for a reason. Theyre not playing to go for weird strategies. They see something in those picks and they try it.

See Sicilians for example, the first time they're picked by GL - casters are freaking out about the crazy pick they dont understand. At the end of the tournament, theyre asking for nerfs to sicilians in the viper game.

Its fine to give your opinion, but don't judge players that much.

Congratulations to the Winner of RedBull Wololo 5

The Snek back at the top, almost 40k viewers, and an insanely sick final game with a Teutons win. What an amazing day for AOE2.

    Redbull V is so good

    Posted: 19 Sep 2021 10:38 PM PDT

I was busy for the whole week and only started catching up with the tournament on the weekend, and holy crap it is sooo good!

I don't think I ever watched any AOE tournament with this level of production. Everything is amazing from the set, players, hosts, casters, actors... and the matches! And with the perfect, almost scripted ending.

Will rewatch the VODs many more times to catch all things, since I had to skipped some due to time constraints.

Redbull is already my favorite drink before exam or job interview for a long time, guess that habit will continue :)

RBW5 was so awesome and I was fortunate to meet the players :)

"MBL is the kind of player that throws spaghetti at the wall, and some of it sticks"

    Posted: 20 Sep 2021 03:39 AM PDT

"And today, that wall is absolutely plastered my friends"

Comment of the tournament after one of MBLs heroic performances by Rlyknight. Had me and the casters howling!

So happy for the RBW5 winner (spoilers)

    Posted: 20 Sep 2021 05:07 AM PDT

Is anyone else super happy for the RBW5 winner?

After not winning any RBW events, nor any other S-tier tournament for over a year, being called washed up, silver boi, having wrist issues, being made fun of by some - THEVIPER came back to take the trophy in the biggest ever AoE2 1v1 event by far!

And not only is this a great story, it also includes the most perfect main character the AoE2 scene could hope for: he is smart, entertaining, funny - but also extremely humble and down to earth. So many top e-sports players are jerks or just weird and unsympathic. TheViper is the champion of our hearts!

    Anyone Else Sad it’s Over?

    Posted: 19 Sep 2021 09:01 PM PDT

I've only gotten into the game over the last year or two, but this tournament quickly became one of my favorites because we really got to know the players in a different light. On top of that, the production was truly first class from top to bottom. It really felt like a great community from the players to the casters, including Riley who was phenomenal.

That said, while the ending was pretty much perfect, I'm sad to see it be over and I'm left with the "what now?"feeling. It's a coming down from the emotional high over the past few days. I'm sure the players will be back to streaming in a bit and more tournaments will roll around, but I can't help but feel a bit down as we get back to our normal lives. On the other hand, this could just be the Sunday scaries talking.

Just wanted to put this out there. Huge shoutout to the whole community for such a great event.

    Dait spoiled the ending

After the first game between Lierrey and Viper, Daut said he's rooting for Viper. What chance did Lierrey have against the will of the Lord?

RedBull Wololo V soundtrack (some of them)

    Posted: 20 Sep 2021 02:59 AM PDT

I can't find any soundtrack list of Red Bull Wololo 5, so I tried to find some of music myself. This is not the full list, only included the track that I like.

(I don't know it's allowed to post those here, please tell me if it's not.)

    Intro music:

    Hosts & Casters:

    Draft:

    Victory:

    • The Good And The Great - by Tim Garland (Not sure, the apps told me this name, but I can't find any playable website)

    Countdown & highlights & Ending:

I also like the Explanation video & Chess game & Technical Issues theme but I can't find it, would love to know the name.

The apps I used to find music:

    • AHA Music (Chrome browser extension)
    • AudD Music Recognition (Chrome browser extension)

Please support the artists and the developers if you like them!

RedBull Wololo I & II Theme:

I really like this track so I put it here so more people can hear it

One of the best things about RBW5 is that we've got to 'meet' everyone more than usual. As a result of this, who has now gained you as a new fan?

    Posted: 19 Sep 2021 09:56 AM PDT

    For me...

Capoch - I wasn't around for his initial spell, but the man has been a machine this event and has the most intense game face! I wouldn't be surprised to see some more good performances in the future and the fact that he's a legend and a 'new' face all at once is pretty cool.

Villese - I really sympathised with him on day one; he looked out of his comfort zone as I'm sure a lot of us would be. But to come back and look really solid for the rest of the days shows that he's got more to him than just clean gameplay. Look forward to following him in the future.

Riley - He's clearly put the effort into getting into AOE since his initial involvement, is a natural presenter, and truly loves history (he has a history degree and a podcast that'll I'll be checking out).
