Red Bull Wololo V Enthrone Prediction Contest Quarterfinals

    Posted: 17 Sep 2021 03:12 AM PDT

After a very interesting and dramatic day we've found the 8 players who will be playing in the playoffs on Saturday. In this round we had some very tight matches, but we also some of the most one-sided matches in terms of predictions. Only 0,9% of people voted for Capoch and MbL (3%) and Barles (7%) weren't favoured either. On the other side there was dogao (54,6%) who was slightly favoured against slam and TaToH (60,1%) having an edge over DauT. The final two matches were somewhere in the middle with Vinchester getting 75% of the votes and Liereyy getting 84,4%.

With these predictions the final placings would've been very different:

    Ranking Player Series Buchholz
    1 Liereyy 4-0 9
    2 TheViper 3-1 11
    3 Hera 3-1 10
    4 JorDan 3-1 9
    5 TaToH 3-1 7
    6 Capoch 2-2 9
    7 MbL 2-2 8
    8 Vinchester 2-2 7
    8 dogao 2-2 7
    10 DauT 1-3 9
    10 Villese 1-3 9
    12 slam 1-3 6
    12 Nicov 1-3 6
    14 Barles 0-4 6

If Vinchester won 2-1 and dogao won 2-0 they would be in an unsolvable tie and would've had to play a tiebreaker, but if another result happens Vinchester is through in 8th place as his map difference would've been higher.

Reality of course is slightly different with DauT beating TaToH, Villese winning against Vinchester and slam beating dogao. Unfortunately for Villese and slam their efforts were in vain, as Capoch, MbL, TaToH and DauT were lucky enough to gain enough Buchholz.

Today will be a media day and the quarterfinals will be played on Saturday, starting at 11.30 GMT

They'll be played in the following order:

    1. Liereyy vs TaToH
    2. Hera vs MbL
    3. TheViper vs DauT
    4. JorDan vs Capoch

You'll get double the points for these, so good luck!

    Some Interesting RBW5 Stats

    Posted: 17 Sep 2021 03:15 AM PDT

    RBW5 Liquipedia - https://liquipedia.net/ageofempires/Red_Bull_Wololo/5

Three of the quarterfinals (Liereyy/TaToH, Hera/MbL & TheViper/DauT) are repeats of the RBW1 quarterfinals.

The only non-repeat match (JorDan/Capoch) features players who did not compete in RBW1 at all, even the qualifiers.

The Best performing civs compared to their RBW historical average are:

    • Franks 87.5% (7-1) vs 64.44% (29-16)

    • Mayans 85.71% (6-1) vs 61.76% (21-13)

    • Cumans 75% (6-2) vs 50% (7-7)

    • Vikings 100% (3-0) vs 62.5% (25-15) [not including mirrors in prev events]

    • Vietnamese 100% (3-0) vs 63.64% (7-4)

The Worst performing civs in general. Still with comparison.

    • Ethiopians 16.67% (1-5) vs 38.89% (20-32)

    • Tatars 27.27% (3-8) vs 35.9% (14-25)

    • Indians 18.18% (2-9) vs 32% (8-17)

    • Aztecs 0.0% (0-2) vs 51.52% (17-16)

    • Magyars 0.0% (0-3) vs 56.1% (23-18)

Meadow is the only RBW5 map to not see any play so far.

Kawasan & Sacred Springs have only been played twice, Atacama 3 times

The best performing civ on a map is Sicilians on Haboob which is undefeated, 3 wins 0 losses.

The worst performing civ on a map is also the Sicilians, which are winless on Enclosed, 0 wins, 3 losses along with Tatars 0-3 on Acclivity and Indians 0-3 on Runestones.

JorDan has climbed from a 37.5% winrate (3-5) to 52.94% (9-8) after his dominant performance so far.

    Public Update Preview September changes.

    Posted: 17 Sep 2021 03:27 AM PDT

I've been looking through the civs and tech tree for the current public update preview, here are the changes found so far:

Supplies cost changed from 150f/100g to 75f/75g

Longsword cost changed from 200f/65g to 150f/65g

Sicilian team bonus changed to transport ship +5 line of sight and cost -50%

Vietnamese: Chatras now gives +100HP was +50 before

Burgundian Vinyards food gold conversion removed, now only makes farmers generate a trickle of gold.

Added Atilla the Hun and Suryavarman I co-op campaigns

I haven't noticed any changes to the new civs yet.

What on your thoughts on these changes? Let me know in the comments if you have found any other changes and I'll edit the post to include them.

For those like me that fancy giving Empire Wars a go after all the great games at RBW5 but have no idea what to do when the game starts, I've added the 3 simplest build guides I could find to Sage of Empires so you can have at least a bit of autoscrolling help on your second screen.

Can we stream Age of Empires 4?

    Posted: 17 Sep 2021 06:49 AM PDT

Does anyone know if they asked for us to not stream our POV during the technical stress test of Age4? I see that they explicitly state that there is not an NDA, but I wasn't sure if that implies anything is allowed or not.

Best sets & games of RBW5 group stage?

    Posted: 17 Sep 2021 01:42 AM PDT

Ok, so no RBW today - time to reflect on the first 4 days. RL prevented me from watching all of it but I catched some great sets (Viper-Hera stands out) and reddit and twitch-chat sounded like there were several other good games and sets. Which did you like best and why? Are there games or sets you would recommend for a rewatch?

    Modding Community in DE

    Posted: 17 Sep 2021 07:27 AM PDT

I remember playing the AoE2: HD version (or 2013) and there were always plenty of lobbies with mods (TDs, RPGs, Game of Thrones etc). Most Data Mods i've seen in DE are CBA and an occasional Lotr game. Why has DE gone so wrong with its modding community or why there is such a lack of it in a game that can become so enjoyable when modded ?
