Can rice paddies get field style coin/food visuals?

    Posted: 17 Oct 2021 05:26 PM PDT

For African civs food and coin gives their fields different appearance to help distinguish the 2, since you have to build so many. Can we get the same visuals for asian civ's rice paddies? They are easier to keep track of since you don't need as many but it would be a nice touch.

What are the best 1, 2 or 3 units to blob together to attack move into a Hard AI's base?

I liked playing casual games against Hard AI on Original, I tend to play Brits and big boom with 2 Factories, 3 Forts, double outposts and Musk & Hussar upgrades, I found this was one of the best blob force to send into their base along with 10-15 Falconets behind it, what race & units would you use in DE?

I tried Ottomans with Great Bombards & their Hussars & Janissaries and it was relatively effective but they take forever to make and forever to reload! lol

    Best Team?

    Posted: 17 Oct 2021 03:19 PM PDT

Which civs do you think are the most suited to each other? I mainly play treaty games with a friend, and we've been practicing vs. the AI in the hopes of improving enough to face off against human opponents.

The combination I have found the most optimal so far is the Ottomans and the French, neither of which I main, (India is my first choice) but I have found that especially with the right team cards, they can be very powerful.

As France, you can send the card that increases the melee damage of all hand cavalry, which obviously benefits them but also helps to improve the combat effectiveness of the Saphi AND the Mamelukes if the latter has been chosen to age up with. Additionally, the French improve the ranged damage of all infantry, which gives the already quite strong Abus Guns, Janissaries and Nizim Fusiliers a modest advantage.

The primary contribution of the Ottoman's to the French is their artillery damage card, which, with the Gribeauval System card, gives the latter's Falconets and Horse Artillery a total whopping 40% attack bonus.

The main problem I forsee with all this is the lack of good French Infantry and anti-calvary, though in some of my testing against the computer, I have noticed that the damage I do with the bonuses i've described, gives me enough to handle most small to medium-sized cavalry groups. Having said that, the Ottomans can make up for this with the presence of Janissaries working in concert with their ally, which, though not ideal since it requires more attention to other parts of the map, can be done effectively in the hands of a skilled player.

What do you guys think of my strategy? Is there anything else I should consider which I have neglected to mention? Are there teams still better than these two? Thanks in advance for your insightful comments!

I know for example that the Japanese and British go quite well together also. The British have a team card that improves the trickle rate of Shrines by 30% and there is another which gives Ashigura Musketeers an HP bonus. The Japanese can reciprocate with an economic card which boosts the gathering rate of British settlers. However, while they can boast having some of the very best infantry, the same cannot be said for their lack luster cannons. Despite the strength of the flaming arrows which are quite powerful in my humble estimation on account of their versatility (referring to their anti-artillery capabilities) and the unique rocket (which I confess to have founding no use for) both are outclassed by the light cannon and great bombard respectively, and since the Japanese have no other artillery besides their version of the mortar, and the English have no upgrades specific to their arsenal of guns, (unless you count the Grenadier, an admittedly strong unit with all the cards) and given the fact that both rely heavily on infantry whilst coming up somewhat short of good anti-artillery, (even the flaming arrows have to trade their time between hunting down other guns and dealing with soldiers en mass) I think they are very quite vulnerable to damage output of other nations blessed with better area-of-effect weapons. I hasten to add that I could very well be mistaken about this, (it's certainly worth testing, and I hope to in the near future) I am a noob afterall with little experience against human opponents, so please do forgive my ignorance.

One last four civ team that I believe would be very interesting is the following, due only to one thing: walls. That is, with the team cards of Portugal (3x to walls), India (25% to buildings) the Inca (2x to walls and 25% to buildings) and finally the Chinese, who can upgrade their walls with a card that only effects them by five times. This card, along with a few others, brings the Chinese wall to just over 15,000 HP. I estimate that it would be at least 20,000 with the other members of the team. I sincerely doubt you will come out victorious by means of this strategy, but you might just draw out the game long enough for your opponents to rage quit.

By the way, the Inca now have three ways to generate wood: from their ceremony, houses and shipments. India also can aid her allies with a medium trickle of wood and shipments and the Portuguese have their factories which they can use to repair your Chinese teammates besieged walls.

Sorry for such a long post. I had many thoughts on the matter and hope you will too.

P.S. if you want to add me on steam, just message me!
