I lost a vill fight in nomad and got hit with a 5 minute ban

    Posted: 16 Oct 2021 04:32 PM PDT

So now you know. Don't vill fight in nomad, run. The game doesn't differentiate between a real defeat and a rage quit.

Finished watching Red Bull Wololo 5 this week

    Posted: 16 Oct 2021 09:25 AM PDT

    And hot dayum.

10/10 games, quality casting, good ambience, costumes, you name it. Even the guy serving water after matches stayed in character throughout. But everyone already knows that.

A major complaint is that somehow i never heard of the Red Bull Wololo series until the 5th for some reason, despite paying attention to the AoE2 scene since 2014 or so.

But we all know at the end of the day Redbull didn't gift us a wonderful tournament out of the kindness of their hearts.

A little backstory: i tried Redbull once when i was about 8, hated it and never thought of it again. More recently i started working remotely with people from other countries and often work into 2AM due to timezones. And i hate coffee.

So yesterday i bought a couple cans, and turns out that young me was a picky little shit lol. After some testing i've come to a rather agreeable mix of 30% Redbull and 70% guaraná which is rather tasty and does a wonderful job at keeping me awake at night.

TL;DR: Run good tournaments, get customers. Moar pls.

    Are flares bugged ?

    Posted: 17 Oct 2021 06:35 AM PDT

Had a few TGs recently where one or more teammates can see opposition flares, only noticed it since the DotD update, anyone else noticed this? makes flaring your TC very stressful on nomad 11

(funny aoe logic) nevermind 20 elephants on a boat, why does a soldier equipped with a shield, helmet, leather armour and pointy stick, fare so poorly while a naked man can kill an archer in melee with a bread knife? spoiler: the vil kills the archer in melee

    Posted: 17 Oct 2021 07:50 AM PDT

If a teammate quits the moment the game starts, can I delete everything except for 1 vil, have the enemy kill that vil, then avoid the leave penalty because I’ve been defeated?

    Posted: 17 Oct 2021 07:16 AM PDT

Then again, I guess if I can do that the guy who originally quit could also do that. (I should say I'm for the change, sucks when a teammate leaves early, but worth much less dodges in the lobby)

    Winged Hussar for Lithuanians

I suprisingly haven't seen anyone talking about this and so I wonder how much does it impact Hussars in game in comparison to their normal hussars

    How to counter Goths?

    Posted: 16 Oct 2021 10:10 PM PDT

Normally, people would try to defeat them before they go imperial, but here, I am a little too late.

I was Magyars, and the Goth player at the other side started spamming these bad boys at my team.

My team: Magyars (me), Ethiopians, Their team: goths and Teutons

    Medieval Mid-Elo Cup 1v1 Tournament

    Posted: 16 Oct 2021 09:42 AM PDT

The Medieval Mid-Elo Cup is a 1v1 tournament played with standard RM settings. This tournament is to provide an opportunity for players in the 1000-1800 range to play tournament style best of 3 or 5 matches against players of similar skill on maps they are familiar with. Players will be separated into divisions based upon their current 1v1 elo (so don't worry, you won't be playing players more than about 200 elo apart from you). It will test players skill with a variety of civs and on different map styles. There will also be a small community funded prize pool for winners. Sign-ups are open now and will close on Oct 26th. The tournament will begin on October 29th.

    Maps: Runestones

    Acropolis

    Ghost Lake

    Nomad

    Golden Pit

    Mongol hussars

    Posted: 17 Oct 2021 06:13 AM PDT

Can someone explain why mongol Hussars since Dawn of the dukes have 118HP instead of 117HP?? Also fun fact when they had 117HP Tatar Hussars Would beat them in every fight because they would survive one more hit now it's about who hits first.

AI Self-Destructing Town Centers In Custom Scenario

    Posted: 16 Oct 2021 08:00 PM PDT

What the hell is the AI doing here? I was just having fun doing an AI tournament, and after the most recent round of patches, the AI started destroying its town centers. This didn't happen pre-Halloween event. The settings you see me change at the start are irrelevant, the AI does it no matter what settings are applied.

What is happening here??? Is there a fix?

    Islands teamgame strategy?

    Posted: 16 Oct 2021 03:41 PM PDT

I'm not very experienced at this map - what is meta? I have seen pockets FC caravel/longship effectively. How about FC turtleship?

And landings - is there a 'meta' for when it is appropriate to land somebody?

AOE 2 DE Campaigns on Hard - A daunting prospect?

    Posted: 16 Oct 2021 05:49 PM PDT

So I've been going back through HD Edition, completing all the campaigns, having good fun most of the time, just finishing off playing one game on every map (I play slow, long games. 8 player FFA's that take 3 to 4 hours each on normal speed).

I've been looking through the features of DE and I must say, it looks like it's an improvement save for one worrying feature - each campaign now has a medal next to it, denoting the difficulty in which you've completed it.

Suffice to say, I'm a big completionist, and that would mean playing through every mission on Hard. After flicking through YouTube and this subreddit, I must say that it seems like a very daunting task indeed.

I like to think I'm not dogshit at the game. I've put in a couple of thousand hours of play into it over the years, and I like to think I'm decent at strategy games in general. My question is this - is there any hope for me achieving this seemingly Herculean task?

I've kept my distance from difficulty settings in HD and usually in general because I tend to get relieved that a challenge is over rather than happy that I beat it (I think), so this seems like a troubling prospect for me.

Any advice or information, suggestions or tips are welcome. Especially if they are more in line with how I like to play, but I expect I'll have to change to accommodate the difficulty. Sorry for the long post.

    Game not launching

    Posted: 16 Oct 2021 09:58 PM PDT

I'm facing technical difficulties on the game suddenly will not launch. The splash screen shows for a few seconds and then the game crashes. I have done all I could do and scavenged through forums but nothing helped. Is there a discord server or person that I can contact to solve this issue?
