How to play team games like a pro

    Posted: 25 Oct 2021 07:30 AM PDT

Now, the first thing to keep in mind while playing is that you are the best player on the team. You don't need to read build orders, watch pro player games, and you definitely don't need to listen to your teammates. No, you're the next Viper and team games are just the way for you to show the maximum amount of people your greatness. With that out of the way, let's begin.

First, never ever talk to your teammates. You're the best player in the game, and anyone worth their 50 food will follow your lead. Pick your favorite color and your favorite civ, map, player position and teammates' civ choice be damned. If someone else has picked your favorite civ, that's fine, they clearly just want to learn from you. But whatever you do, do not, I repeat, DO NOT, talk to your teammates, not even if you don't speak the language of the rest of your team to let them know this. That would make you seem fallible, lowering their morale and making them resign when they get 2v1ed. We can't have that, you need to be able to boom in peace! Speaking of which, let's talk strategy.

Since you're the greatest pro player in Aoe2, no, gaming history, whatever strategy you pick is sure to work. 3 TC boom on Arabia? Let the enemy tremble before your 60 Frankish Paladins! Sneaky Sicilian transport and Donjon drop on Team Islands? Water maps are dumb anyway! Unprotected Persian castle drop on Arena? They'll never see it coming! Just make sure you don't pressure the enemy before the Imperial Age, or help your teammates if they're attacking or being attacked. If you did that, you would be admitting that they were right and you were wrong, and at that point you might as well Alt+F4 and go do the dishes like your mom keeps asking you to. No. You are the #1 Aoe2 player,

Of course, while you are infallible, your teammates are not. As soon as you hit Feudal Age, tell your allies to build markets in the corner of the map. Not only will this let you start trade as soon as possible, giving you plenty of gold for your ultimate army, it will let your allies see you so they can follow your lead. They might get distracted by attacking the enemy or fending off the other team, so remind them regularly to build markets in the corner. Plus, then they can see your base, and the glorious sight of your 5 Town Centers with perfectly placed farms will boost their morale. Sadly, some times your allies will just have too small a brain to comprehend your glorious vision, and if the Viper can't take on 7 Extreme AIs, you definitely can't be expected to take on the entire enemy team without your allies as distractions. So let's finish with finishing the game.

The only time you should ever, and I mean ever, communicate with your team, is when they're about to resign. Tell them not to do this, repeatedly, as their small brains can forget. You're the best player in the game, and if you can just get your 60 paladins or arbalests or war elephants, your win is guaranteed. But your stupid allies can't comprehend big words and typing all that is too much effort, so use simple words like "hold" or "104". Remind them of their place as "noobs" or "losers" to stiffen their backbone. As a last resort, you can send your scout cavalry to run around their base. You've already auto-scouted the whole map anyway haven't you? But if all if this fails and your teammates resign, don't give your enemy the satisfaction of victory. Pretend to have internet problems and disconnect your router, or claim your mother is going into labor and resign. If those aren't options, scatter your villagers across the map, walling them into different locations. If all goes well, the enemy will get bored and leave, giving you the win! And don't even think of talking to your enemies to wish them a good game. That would imply their win was fair and their skills greater than yours!

And that's how you play team games! Good luck and happy queuing!

So for example since the Folwark collects 10 percent of farms when built would they collect more overall food with a Chinese teammate?

Why does I lose ELO and get Ranked Queue banned for quitting a game where a teammate fails to join?

    Posted: 25 Oct 2021 08:16 AM PDT

    Scenario:

    > 4v4 game.

    > One of my teammates fail to join when the game starts and instantly is resigned.

    > I don't want to play a 3v4 game so I resign when I see this.

    > I lose ELO and get ranked queue banned for 30 minutes.

Why not discredit a game for ELO when someone fails to join and why the hell punish the teammates of the player who failed to join with a queue ban? This game's ranked system does not make sense in the slightest, no other game I've played with a ranked system would do this if there was an issue at the start of a game, look at Dota's ranked if you need an example of this.

Also while I'm here, why does EVERYONE in the game lose ELO if "Microsoft Services Failed To Connect" when a game starts? God it's so annoying.

Beginner, playing 1v1 Arabia with moderate DE AI. Getting comfortable with fast castle + knights but really struggling with feudal rush strategies.

    Posted: 24 Oct 2021 09:07 PM PDT

edit: wow, was NOT expecting this post to get as much attention as it did! Thank you all for taking the time to help out a lost beginner. Will go through responses as I can during the workday.

    >>> original post <<<

Basically, I win easily against moderate with FC + Knights (or whatever "the" unit is for that civ), but I'm struggling SO MUCH trying to switch to feudal rush (scouts or archers). Is it just me or is it normal? I do follow build orders and reach Fast Castle at 17min, Fast Feudal at 10-11min.

With FC, I get my eco to the point where I pump out enough units to easily overwhelm the moderate AI with 1-2 good surges; I also have enough resources to throw up defenses when needed. I admit, my gameplay is messy and I don't think I'd stand a chance against a human, but at least vs. the AI, with FC I build enough momentum that I can make errors and still win. Plus, I just feel FC is more relaxed - I have time to make my army, manage my vills, research techs, pick up a relic or two, etc.

However, when I try Feudal aggression, I'm completely off my game. I'm trying to do the "same" things, like eco, research etc. I don't think I lack knowledge of what to do - I do follow build orders and always hit Feudal ready to make a Stable/Range, villagers queued, etc. But as soon as I send my 6-8 units into the enemy base, that's when my game completely falls apart.

I do think it's partially a psychological block. I know that a feudal vs. castle rush fundamentally are different - like the goal in feudal is to harass, MAYBE kill a couple vills. But I've gotten used to mowing down buildings and units left and right with a FC strategy. I also haven't figured out how to have a good Feudal push, since just 1-2 enemy spears (or skirms) vs. my scouts (or archers) throws me off.

Anyway...I'm rambling, and I'm curious to hear how other people mastered earlier aggression. My thoughts are that I can

1-Stick with FC and make sure that's squeaky clean before attempting feudal.

2-Keep on trying with scout/archer rush until that feels comfortable.

Btw I'm playing a mix of civs - I'm favoring Berbers atm, but have tried Lithuanians, Mongols, Spanish, Magyars, Huns, Incans, Mayans, Franks, Tatars, Persians. Maybe a couple others.

dont you think that you are all overreacting with the facebook thing?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2021 03:19 PM PDT

this is certainly a aoe4 hype deal and facebook wants to aquire the best personal in case aoe4 blows up. so my guess is they will be streaming there for a year tops. it happend before with mixer and now its happening again. i honestly believe that others like nili lidaquor etc will carry the twitch side of things and maybe we get new talent and hopefully some people will find aoe on facebook and in the end the community will grow.

also youtube and discord will still connect most people who are intersted.

    Battle elephants strategy

    Posted: 25 Oct 2021 03:30 AM PDT

I have just got into AOE2 recently and am wondering if there is a viable battle elephants strategy. I am only 1100 elo so not really any good. I like playing elephants but it seems the build up is a bit slow and I struggle to make it work. I have tried building up other armies then going into elephants let, but then it feels like elephants are only relevant late game and prior to this I can never seem to build up enough of a force to defend early.

So I am wondering if there is a viable elephant focused strategy or if they are just not really the best unit?

Selectionand some lag issues in game

    Posted: 25 Oct 2021 08:42 AM PDT

So I recently bought AOE 2 DE, from steam, and everythings good but I noticed one problem. Its like when I quickly make box to select units, the units actually don't get selected and this happens a lot. Only when I slowly make box, that all units get selected. Its frustrating because in high pitch battles, you need to select things quickly. How should I fix this?

Other issue is about lag. When my town gets large, lagging occurs not severe, but its mild annoyance. (IDk its because I can't select units properly or what)

I don't think its related to my PC, but its unlikey since I have mild specs (8GB ram, 2GB graphics card, I-5 processer)

Please tell that is this hardware related, or something in game settings which I can tune.

    Question about task queue

    Posted: 24 Oct 2021 11:26 PM PDT

    Hey Guys,

Ive noticed that people are able to unclick things that have been queued by clicking in the top left corner on whatever they wish to discontinue. However, that does not seem to work for me. Does anyone have any ideas as to why?

How Exactly should I counter Byzantines?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2021 10:10 PM PDT

Half of the time, I would face Byzantines opponent.

How can I counter an Byzantine army of cataphracts, skirms, and halbs in general? It's like catas shred my infantry, and when I try to send cavalry to rescue my infantry and stop the cataphracts, halbs kill them. Want to use archers, gunpowder, or cav archers? Skirms can counter them.

Goths, Tatars, and Magyars are off my table considering that the Byzantines have counters to almost everything.

Do you ever build two mining camps, one on each side, when you have like 10-12 miners?

Does your spawning position in team games depend on the player color?

    Posted: 24 Oct 2021 08:17 PM PDT

For example on this coastal forest map I always pick green or pink and my mate always picks yellow or teal and so far I have spawned on the coast and he in the center.

    Is this a coincidence?
