    How to: Report cheaters

    Posted: 05 Nov 2021 04:11 AM PDT

It looks like they are getting paid to harm the game so people leave AOE 2 and go on AOE 4, sad..

If you honestly believe in these conspiracy theories you are neglecting the fact that cheating was always possible in the past two years with a variety of exploits. And has been actively used. There is no reason to believe in these tinfoil hat theories other than a lack of understanding what's the problem. So let me explain.

The multiplayer part of the engine lacks input validation, so people are able to send their own commands in the name of another player. And it's easy to automate/script. As far as I'm up-to-date the devs are working to fix it and people should stick to reporting the people within the following web form or send an email. These ways of communication are higher priority than in-game reporting.

Reports can be done either via their official web form:

    https://support.ageofempires.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=360001706471

or by sending an Email with the replay attached to: aoesupport@microsoft.com

and via in-game reporting as that provides important data that the customer service team needs as well.

Red Bull Wololo V in numbers

Red Bull Wololo 5 finished more than a month ago, and I enjoyed it. So I dug into some numbers:

    • APM
    • Game duration & Maps
    • Work Efficiency & K/D ratio

Usually, I show min/avg/max values per player or map.

Thx to CaptureAge - could not have done it without you.

    Capoch's Build Orders Guide

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 01:09 PM PDT

    Capoch's Build Orders Guide

    Hey everyone!

The new build orders guide is available for Twitch subscribers in my channel: www.twitch.tv/capoch

The guide contains more than 70 pages of detailed build orders and information about the game. This past month we've added the build order "Drush into Feudal" and also added the new civs in different sections of the guide.

If you have Amazon Prime or Prime Gaming, you can subscribe for free or if not, it costs between 1.59 USD and 4.99 USD depending on your country.

To download the guide after subbing, you must join my discord channel (https://discord.gg/65NwUgz), go to discord connections in settings and sync your Twitch with your discord. You will then find a private channel in my discord called "build-order-guide" where you can download the guide. It comes in two languages (english and spanish) and the idea is to keep it fresh by adding new content every month so stay tunned!

Find below some sample pages of the guide. I hope it helps you improve and enjoy this wonderful game and sorry about this self-promotion post!

    Kind regards,
    Capoch.

"Trash techs": Techs that don't cost gold

"Trash techs": Techs that don't cost gold

Hi all! A couple of weeks ago I was playing with Mayans and I decided to go for Plumed Archers in Castle Age instead of going Xbows. I massed many of them. Then, while I was advancing to Imperial Age, my opponent carried out a very good push and denied my gold. I started desperately to search for any additional Gold mines, because I had bare gold for Bracer and Chemistry and I wanted, obviously, to upgrade my Plumes. When the time for the fight came, I had researched Bracer/Chemistry, but hadn't found any gold. I lost my army to a handful of Elite Skirms who outranged my Plumes. It was GG.

A week later, I found out a curious thing: Plumed Archer upgrade costs no gold. Holy f**k. And I thought: "Apart from eco upgrades, which techs also don't cost gold?"

So here's the complete list. Stone costing techs' cost is in bold. I haven't included Feudal Age advance. Unique Techs are at the bottom.

    https://preview.redd.it/4zfg9mpmplx71.png?width=974&format=png&auto=webp&s=2d4c0b93180fbc42c038e734179aa5621ad73603

I hope you find it useful. Have a nice day!

Edit: Spanish Blacksmith techs don't cost gold! Thanks u/Thangoman!!!!

    Updated Win Rate Statistics

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 01:49 PM PDT

    Updated Win Rate Statistics

    Hi all,

Just wanted to say that I've updated the stats on my site to now cover the most recent patch with the recent longsword changes (just in time to be outdated by the new PUP -.- ). They now cover the period of 2021-10-12 to 2021-11-01. (I will update a few more times over the next week as more data comes in as the sample is still very small atm).

The stats can be found here

The code can be found here

That being said I am a bit skeptical of the results atm; in particular the Lithuanians suddenly becoming super dominant despite no significant changes is very suspicious. I've dug through the code a few times now and can't find any obvious mistakes but I will continue to review and will post an update if I do find a bug.

Turns out Lithuanians have a crazy high win rate soley due to aftermath. See the plot below in the edit for what the 1v1 open plot looks like after removing aftermath. I plan on updating the data and site in ~3-4 days time and will most likely remove aftermath from consideration in that update.

I guess as a change log since my last update would be:

    • Added new experimental outputs that attempts to compare a civs expected win rate vs its actual win rate (credit to SOTL who suggested this)
    • Added new output showing the play rate by Elo
    • Added new cohorts for "pros" and also for removing players who always pick the same civ
    • Migrated to a new server and registered it under the domain ageofstatistics.com
    • Reworked the site layout to actually have some navigation
    • Removed the EW team game cohort as there just isn't enough data atm and some of the models were crashing
    • Reworded some of the FAQs

Big thanks to the guys on the siege engineers discord who helped loads with getting the server and backend stuff setup.

As always I welcome any comments / feedback / suggestions!

P.S. Please be gentle in terms of feedback relating to the styling and navigation of the site :) I am not a webdev and have been learning this as I go!

    Anyone playing on M1 Mac?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2021 04:39 AM PDT

    Hi,

I was wondering if some or many of you pay the game on a M1 Mac? I'm mostly interested in knowing, if ranked online games work normally and how big of a hassle it is every time a patch is released.

    Thank you in advance!

    Jurchens (Concept Civ)

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 03:16 PM PDT

    JURCHENS

    Archer & Siege Civ

•Can claim deer as heardables (villager only)

Villagers would practically have a faith meter to convert a deer into a sheep. This was the best way I could think of to balancing it. But a cool nomadic Civ concept. Saves having to lure deer and could potential lame your opponents deer. But you risk a villager.

    •Handcart & Wheelbarrow upgrade instantly, cost -50wood

They lack Knight line. But still having to pay for it makes it pay off better mid to late castle. I've tested this and it's fairly balanced. Not as good as Vikings but still good.

    •Archery range upgrades cost -50%

•Parthian Tactics available in the Castle Age

This is quite strong and I considered changing it for Heavy Cavalry Archer upgrade instead. Castle age Cav archers are their power spikes play tho.

•Chemistry give extra +1 attack to Archery units & Siege weapons.

(Ranged units get +2 from chemistry instead of +1).

    Unique Unit

    Hitachi (110wood, 85gold)

Siege Version of a Chu Ku Nu that fires Incendiary arrows that deals extra damage to siege (Same fire rate as a Chu Ku Nu but hits like Magudai) Anti siege siege Unit.

Flamethrower (90wood, 60gold) Unique unit available to Jurchens & Chinese upon reaching castle age. Heavy upgrade available in Imperial age. Fast fire siege unit that ignores armour. Semi replacement for the Ram.

    Unique Tech

•Manchu Banners (Military building production increased by 17%)

•Fire Lancers (Steppe Lancers gold cost replaced by food)

Practically a trash lancer in late game, would make Lancers cost 110food. Goes well with 50% faster production UT+conscriptions. Note they don't get Elite Lancers

Team Bonus +2 population space per housing building

Houses give 7 pop (12 for Incas) TC give 7 pop (12 for Chinese) Castles give 22 pop Folwark gives 7 pop. Etc

    • No Halbs
    • No Knight line
    • No elite steppe lancer
    • Full blacksmith
    • Gets Camel
    • Full siege except Capped & Siege Ram
    • Full gunpowder
    • Full Archer range
    • Dock ? What ever needs balancing.

With the palisade nerfs, Franks will likely hit a +55% winrate in 1v1 - and a slight increase in TG. Despite already being (one of) the best civs in the game

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 11:21 AM PDT

With the palisade nerfs, Franks will likely hit a +55% winrate in 1v1 - and a slight increase in TG. Despite already being (one of) the best civs in the game

Franks will likely get an increase in winrate due to the palisade/house nerf that amplifies the success of Scout Rushes.

    So here is the data:

    Aoestats.io

55.29% winrate in 1650+ elo 1v1 (might be outdated due to unknown activity of the owner / DotD civs not included)

    https://preview.redd.it/wvoi3d0rcmx71.png?width=1365&format=png&auto=webp&s=5a5c3c7e51c4debcc41ce9948f14212d5e8a9c3d

    aoecompanion.com

58.5% winrate in 1650+ on Arabia only

    Seems up to date

    https://preview.redd.it/aagnh2kxcmx71.png?width=1606&format=png&auto=webp&s=ea4c84e3484801e10305446cb0ba481f2d352acb

And the biggest statistics as of this post which got features in a SOTL video

They currently have 55% winrate on Open 1v1 Maps with a Lower Elo inclusion limit of 1700.

    https://preview.redd.it/jv5kf3ridmx71.png?width=1121&format=png&auto=webp&s=f8375d8031e55e918b4f89245bb9a1aa3976d4e6

And despite all of this, they don't get nerfed. This is a failure by the balance team and is breaking the game. It seems like the balance teams favor civs with higher playrate because Frank mains might quit or p(l)ay less if they have to switch - there is no other explanation I can think of right now.

Everyone still denying these facts is just biased or misinformed.

To everyone actively picking them (almost) every time:

It's over, we see them every Team game and I am tired of People who abuse this civ so they can cheat their elo into ranges they don't belong in.

    For the love of Statistics:

    NERF Franks

...and a bunch of other civs - this post's focus is on franks - I am aware of Mayans and Britons, Huns etc. too

    What should Celts be like?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 08:26 PM PDT

I keep reading here that Celts are not historically accurate, they're just the devs needing a siege civ in AoK times. I like history a lot but know nothing about Celts. What should they be like in game to be more accurate?

Is there a way to play with HD graphics in DE?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2021 09:44 PM PDT

listen DE is great and all but for me the visual style of HD and CD can't be beat

but then again the new features and besides 'sfar as i can tell a great portion of the playerbase is on DE these days

i wonder if i could get a similar effect by just lowering my resolution down to absurd amounts
