Any interest in DM World Cup 5?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2022 08:23 AM PST

Hello fellow Age of empires II passionate community,

A group of us experienced Deathmatch (DM) players and community builders is working towards hosting the fifth edition of the renowned DM World Cup. We are expecting to host the final stages of the event in late summer 2022, meaning that the qualifications should take place shortly before that. Our goal is to raise at least $10 000 for this event to match the previous year's prize pool, and so far we are half way there. With this prizepool, we are dedicated to making this event stand out among the numerous RM, EW and AoE4 S‑tier events in 2022.

With the imminent launch of the ranked DM lobbies, the timing is ideal for an event that really showcases how exciting and straight to the action DM can be.

Any one interested can PM me here or reach out to the host committee on discord for more details: Blacksky#0001, Brisolyn#7522, kelar#2475, Paulad#4033, Peon#8894, PoLaR#5708, The Otter One#3331 or X Factor#4580.

    Predict the new DLC civs!

    Posted: 25 Jan 2022 05:44 AM PST

So, we know there's a new DLC coming, so that means more civs and a focus on a certain part of the world. But which?

For the last two DLC's, the working title accurately predicted the capital city of one of the new civs ('Palermo', 'Prague'). With the new working title it's harder: 'Porto' is a city in Portugal - a civ which is already in the game and has Lisbon as its capital. So what options does that leave? My guesses:

Africa - Porto Novo is an alternative name given to Benin, the capital of one of the greatest medieval kingdoms in Western Africa. We could get the Yoruba civ with strong walls and smithing techs, rainforest terrain, and possibly the Kongolese as second civ - both interacted with the Portuguese, by the way. Nubians are another strong contender for a new African civ, but Nubia is quite a bit to the east. I personally would be interested to see the medieval kingdoms of Madagascar, but what are the odds.

South America - Porto Seguro is the place in Brazil where the explorer Álvares Cabral landed, the starting point for the Portuguese colonization of Brazil. This DLC could give us South American civs like the Tupi, the Muisca and possibly the Mapuche.

Southwest Europe - perhaps Porto really refers to the Portuguese city, and we are getting civs from Iberia. Perhaps Basques, Asturians, even Cathars? Porto was also the city from which Portugal launched its conquest of Morocco, so perhaps a Moroccan civ?

Portuguese exploration theme - Porto in Portugal was the starting point for the Portuguese Exploration Age, and 'Porto' also means 'harbor' in that language. Fleets of fast caravels established trading posts along the African coastline, in India, China, Japan, Indonesia and in the Americas. So the theme of the new DLC might be the maritime Portuguese exploration of the world. So perhaps we'll see some civs from all over the world: an African civ, a new (south) Indian civ, perhaps even Polynesians, you name it.

What do you think? Please vote or comment! Whatever we end up with, I'm excited :)

About the incoming DLC or the next event

    Posted: 25 Jan 2022 12:14 PM PST

About the incoming DLC or the next event

I found out last time that usericons are downloaded ahead of events in our game files.

    [...] > Steam > steamapps > common > AoEDE > resources > _common > wpfg > resources > usericons

This time, we find three new user icons which are quite artful and could maybe give us an insight to the upcoming DLC or at least the next main event.

A brother and a sister fighting over a throne?

A queen adding a new crown to her name?

A mesoamerican transporting lots of gold?

I believe this could relate to Isabella of Castille and the early discovery and conquest of America. Maybe we'll get a new campain located in America? I believe we're quite short on those at the moment compared to other continents.

The El Dorado campaign--which was actually at lot of fun as I remember--never made the it to the Definitive Edition and could make its big come back.

    What do you think???

Aside from the new civs and campaigns, I'd like to see some old campaigns modified

    Posted: 25 Jan 2022 12:14 PM PST

Le Loi campaign mission 1 and 2 are literally the worst kind of nightmare for any player, and Tariq mission 5 (as well as the previous Tariq missions) is a typical infinite spam mission with barely any playability and storytelling. It has been two years since the release of DE but these old campaigns are seemingly forgotten into oblivion and still torturing the campaign players.

The new DE campaigns like Ivaylo, Hautevilles and Jadviga have the best gameplay and play scripts, and we all love those campaigns. I think it's time to change the previous HD or even older campaigns now.

How to play against franks as mongols?

    Posted: 24 Jan 2022 10:52 PM PST

Im having very hard time dealing with this civ and unfortunately its the civ I encounter the most. Literally every 2nd or 3rd game is against franks.

So what units should I make as mongols? I heard that pikeman and camels are good counters againt frank knights, but are they worth for mongols since you can't fully upgrade neither of the units? Or do you have any other tips that might help to deal with franks?

    Designing new Eagle Warrior bonuses

    Posted: 25 Jan 2022 03:41 AM PST

Hi all! I'm an Eagle Warrior lover. I must confess I have a self-designed T-shirt with a picture of an Eagle Warrior and the Aztec/Mayan/Incan shields on its back. Eagles are very good units, being the backbone of the American civs' mid and late game, and even beating the Scout Cavalry one on one in Dark Age. A mass of them has few counters, and the few viable counters have many units to deal with them, like Arbalesters/Plumes, pointy boys and Jaguars/Slingers. They are also easy to produce thanks to their low food demand (there have been a couple of posts asking for that food cost being increased to 25 or 30). As a low ELO player, my macro is far from good, so needing so few farms to produce such great units really gives me a lot of satisfaction.

With the yearly release of new AoE2 content, I can't help thinking that there's room for another American civ featuring of course Eagles (these new civs could be used even on Incan/Aztec Campaigns and in Dos Pilas). I feel that a new American civ would get its own UT affecting Eagles, the same way to the current ones. We already find Aztecs getting extra +4 attack, Mayans getting +40HP and Incas getting +1/+2 armor. So, the idea I propose is: What other bonuses could new UTs affecting Eagles include? How would they affect Eagles and their performance? I propose 5 ideas, and you tell me if you like them or not:

Bagains Eagle: An Eagle with 7-8 melee armor would resist a bit better against their main counters, especially Heavy Cavalry, who get no bonus damage against them (except for Cataphracts) and deal damage based on their raw attack. Eagles' performance against Hussars would be greatly improved

"Japanese" Eagle: A feature that could be included for Eagles is faster attacking. Eagles don't have a crazy raw attack, but faster attacking would certainly help sniping vills and ranged foot units. Of course, their combat performance would be better against any unit

Trash Eagle: If we turn the Eagle into a 70-80 food cost unit, first thing is to decide whether it is more balanced to have it FU but without Elite upgrade (55HP, 11at, 3/7 armor, 1.265 speed) or to remove the last armor upgrade (60HP, 13at, 2/6 armor, 1.43 speed) and balance the civ so that it still is competitive.

Old Incan Eagle: Couriers gave +10% speed to Eagles, and that was replaced by the current Fabric Shields. Couriers Elite Eagles Warriors would get a whooping 1,573 speed (faster than Husbandry Cavalry Archers).

Double bonus damage: In one of the civs concepts I created, a bonus I included for a new American civ was "Eagle Warriors double their bonus attacks". I'll include current bonus attacks for Scouts/Warriors/Elite: Monk 8/8/10, Siege Weapon 3/3/5, Cavalry 2/3/4, Camel 1/2/3, Ship 1/1/2. It's clear that doubling bonuses would turn them into a hybrid between Hussars, Magyar Hussars and Flemish Militia. OP? It depends on the civ eco and the availability of other infantry affecting techs like Squires or Blast Furnace.

So, would you like to see any of these features/bonuses/UTs included on a future American civ? What would their cost be? Let me know on comments what your feelings are! Have a nice day!

    HELP NEEDED!!!

    Posted: 24 Jan 2022 10:16 PM PST

    Hello gents and ladies.

I am looking for people that would help and collaborate together to develop a manual that would cultivate good thinking habits that win matches by asking questions which pertain to different parts of the game. The file type will be Google Docs.

Have you ever lost a game to a silly MISTAKE?

Did you wall up and developed your economy only for your opponent come through a hole that you hadn't noticed? Have you ever lost a game because your economy couldn't support to throw more units to the game deciding mass battle? NO more of those silly mistakes!

THIS future draft for a manual will encourage you to adopt and develop your thinking in such a way that prevents silly mistakes and snatch victory from jaws of DEFEAT.

On a serious note...I got an idea for this project because I felt I made silly mistakes only because I focused my attention on trivial things or took a wrong approach to the match because of not knowing what to do.

I had tried to fix the issue by playing the game and utilizing various recourses made available by internet, however some of things didn't stick because I didn't know what to or what to think in critical game deciding situations.

So that is where this future manual comes in. It would encourage the type of thinking that would win you matches.

At the moment I have very, very, very rough drafts, each link is a draft each draft is a section that would make the final product, the manual.

Each draft deals with important parts of the game and has a series of questions that a reader suppose to ask themselves.

The goal is to have a manual that would be readily available free of charge

The manual would constantly developed, improved and refined to perfection with just like AoE2.

Please always tell me what I can do better I insist, I am human after all.
If you decide you want to develop a manual or just drop an insight or two, write in the comments section. The proper credit will be acknowledged and appreciated and the name of the anon that helped will be included in the manual

Thank you very much for reading this and if you are interested PM me and lets get started
