    Hello Explorers!

    With today's launch of the Public Update Preview, we're making the first build available for an early hands look at the work being done for the upcoming April Update. As part of this process, we'll be updating the build often with additional fixes, so this is the thread to watch – this is where we'll provide any notes or changes that are worth paying attention to, and we'll update that information as newer builds come online. Keep an eye on this thread for more information throughout the Public Update Preview.

    Below is a list of preliminary fixes we are prepping for this release. Please note that not all potential fixes/items are guaranteed to be in the final update, as we are still actively testing everything and may need to adjust or remove items if they are not ready. Additionally, this is not a holistic list, and some additional items may end up in our final release.

    • As with all updates, certain Mods may no longer function as the underlying game code has changed. If you are experiencing issues please try disabling all Mods first to see if that addresses your issue as the Mod may need to be updated by the creator to work with the latest build

    Game
    Stability & Performance

    • Added Asset pre-loading improvements, allowing the game to use extra memory and loading times to increase stability.

    • Added checks to help prevent crashes caused by UI mods.

    • Fixed a rare desync.

    UI

    • Fixed issue where ping/flare placed outside of camera view would not display a visual effect in the world.

    • Added a filter option to only show Co-Op Battles in the multiplayer lobby.

    • Fixed issue where names of random maps, map sets, and Co-op scenarios would incorrectly show in in the host's language (instead of the client's language) in client lobbies. (Custom scenarios will still use the file name).

    • Campaign loading screen - fixed occasional string displayed in multiple fonts.

    • QoL - Game Rules are now displayed within Multiplayer Lobbies

      • The lobby's Game Rules can now be viewed in a tooltip by hovering the cursor over the "i" icon, next to the Lobby Name & Game Mode.
      • For example: Treaty Time & Blockade status are now stated in this tooltip if the Game Rules are set to Treaty.
    • QoL - Improved display of Game Rules in Multiplayer & Skirmish Loading Screen and within the Game Summary, within matches.

    • QoL - Relocating the expanded mini map button so that it won't clash with other UI.

    • QoL - Improved expanded mini map UI behaviour so it won't clash with other UI.

    • Fixed height issue in the Player Summary menu where Players were getting cut off.

    • British HC Card "Siege Archery" no longer incorrectly displays it affects Rangers.

    Scenario Editor

    • Free camera mode now allows to zoom out as far as before (this was incorrectly affected by Photo Mode in the previous update).

    Settings

    • Hotkey bindings added for flare type menu.

      • Hotkey for 'Select Flare Type' is bound by default to Ctrl-Mouse2Down (Ctrl+RMB).
      • This resolves previous conflict with the Alt-RightClick Attack Move (Alt+RMB).

    Mods

    • Home City files, tactics files and the UI tech tree data can now be additively modded. As an example the British Home City file can be additively modded with homecitybritish.mods.xml.

    Civilization BalanceGENERAL

    • Culverin: Adjusted as follows

      • Now inflicts 2x damage to Buildings
      • Now inflicts 2x to Gatling Camels (down from 4x)
    • Akan Cocoa Beans: Now improves Cherry Orchard gather rates by 10% (down from 30%)

    SPANISHUNITS AND BUILDINGS

    • Missionary: Population cost removed (Build Limit of 10 remains)

    CARDS

    • Unction (II): Moved to Age 1; no longer ships a Missionary; Aura no longer improves Artillery or Ships; aura damage improvement reduced to 2.5% (from 4.5); aura range increased to 34 (from 24); 'range ring' adjusted accordingly (Note: Max improvement is now +28% attack, down from 55.3%)

    • Spanish Gold (III): Reduce crate to 300 coin (from 350)

    • Armada (III): Now also enables different War Ships to train certain Military Units

    • INF 10 Rodeleros (IV): Increased to 14

    • 13 Rodeleros (IV): Increased to 16

    • [NEW] INF 7 Lancers (IV): Replaces the current "7 Lancers" and "6 Lancers" shipments

    • [NEW] TEAM 1 Falconet (III, 200c): Simple shipment of a Falconet to the entire team.

    • [NEW] TEAM 1 Heavy Cannon (IV, 500c): Simple shipment of a Heavy Cannon to the entire team.

    • [NEW] Marvelous Year (III): "Settlers train and work significantly faster for 365 seconds. A marvelous year, Viva España!"

      • Current Training Time Improvement: -27.5%
      • Current Gathering Speed Improvement: +20%
    • [NEW] House of Trastamára (II): "Arrives fast! Your next Age-up is cheaper and faster the more shipments you have received in your CURRENT AGE."

      • For each card that arrived after the last completed Age-up
      • Next Age-up time improved by -8.5%
      • Next Age-up cost reduced by 100 resources
      • Effects apply once to the NEXT Age-up only
      • Progress is reset with each completed Age-up
    • [NEW] Peninsular Guerrillas (IV): "Improves Ranged Infantry attack and enables them to see the location of enemies they've recently damaged."

      • Damage improvement: 25%
      • Revealer: Has 24 LOS and lasts 3 seconds
    • [NEW] Viceroyalty of New Spain (III): "Ships 2 Haciendas Wagons that can transform into Haciendas which Settlers may gather resources from or help spawn Cows, Settlers, or powerful Soldados at."

    • [NEW] Reconquista (II): "Ships 1 Conquistador for each 5 Archaic Infantry you have lost (up to a maximum of 10)." All Hand Infantry & Foot Archers are Archaic Infantry

    • [NEW] Liberation March (III): "All infantry and cavalry train and move faster." This card replaces Fencing School and Riding School

    • [NEW] Nuestras Señoras (IV, 2000c): "Ships 2 Mighty Battleships!"

    • [NEW] INF 1 Battleship (IV, 1000c): "Ships a Mighty Battleship!"

    The changes to Unction card intend to considerably reduce its significance in the late-game (paving the way for powerful new cards) and to make it less difficult to use.

    Random MapsMap Updates

    • Horn:

      • Fixed an issue that prevented players from accessing the water in games with more than 2 teams.
    • Lake Victoria:

      • Fixed an issue that could cause a native settlement not to spawn properly.
    • Plymouth:

      • Fixed an issue where teammates would spawn too close together in games with 3 or 4 teams.
    • Siwa Oasis:

      • Adjusted team player placement so that players begin farther from the edge of the map in supremacy games and adjusted how resources are distributed around the map.
    • Unknown:

      • Added new starting wagons, bonus scouts, and overall increased randomness for you to discover.
      • Ensured players always start with 2 mines near their Town Center in treaty games.

    Any good Youtubers to learn from or get better at aoe3 from?

    In aoe2 I'd watch videos by Spirit of the Law, Hera and a few others to improve my gameplay. I had learnt how to play well in aoe3 on my own back then, but I don't know any actual good Youtuber or someone to learn from? Y'all know how I can get started?

    Haven't played in a year and i'm lost.

    I haven't played since USA release (so about a year) and i have seen there was big patches with new cards, updates, the african civs (i know nothing about them), etc. so i guess i have to learn all again.

    I see somewhere that Aztec are played totally different now? what other civs have changed too much in the meantime? Is that nothing-but-FF crap still around or the ppl play other way now?

    TL;DR: What are the current strategies? Also, is the africans dlc worth it at 33% discount?

    So I have noticed this rating bug, whenever some opponent gets disconnected due to connection loss from an ongoing ranked game, my rating goes down. Anyone else faced this?

    Population Cap.

    Hello everyone, yesterday I had a strange thing happen, I was playing the AoE3 mod The Napoleonic Era and I somehow increased my pop cap from 200 to 250 I didn't have 250 people I had an actual pop cap of 250. I was playing as the United States and I have absolutely no idea how I did it. I've tried to replicate it with no luck, anyone know if it was a glitch or is there a specific way to do this?

    What is a good way to look up card effects in DE?

    Fandom is manually updated by people so it's not always up-to-date. The patch notes are too long and there are hidden changes.

    I feel that since the introduction of finer tags (e.g. cards now affect "musket infantry" in general instead of listing every single infantry that functions like a musketeer) and many other stuff, there are massive hidden tweaks but not reflected in the patch notes.

    Is there something like an online database that is automatically extracted from in-game data? I do not want to open DE every time just to check one card effect.

    How to deal with Griots as China (or general counters vs them)

    I'll start by stating the obvious: Griots are a very unfun unit that needs more counter play and some tweaking as they literally facetank, eco and unit boost, and debuff at the same time unlike any other healer in the game. But, I am not a dev so I have to deal with them as is. Their range is massive and really counter china's "deathball" style of play as they nerf my entire army because trumpets. Now that Hausa market is back they are on the ladder frequently enough

    So I am trying to brainstorm how to beat this unit as Hausa players love to spam their uber tough stunlocking boys . As china, I have no way to snipe them with cannons besides late game consulate shipments of which I dont think can mass or be alive that late. My buddy (shout out McCleaves) pointed out flamethrowers since the only tag griots have is infantry, but since lifidi and javelins are common getting flamethrowers into them might be tricky. Other than that, my only other idea is to rush them down hard and never let them enjoy their silly trumpets of doom.

    Thoughts? With hausa market fixed they are common enough on the ladder and china already struggles into cav heavy armies so unsure if just a hard matchup or someone has thought of a better way to handle this? Any special merc , banner, or native strats? Thanks in advance!

    Are units more inclined to attack buildings now?

    I feel like I've noticed that when I try attacking someone's base, units just can't seem to help themselves and start attacking buildings, even when I (think I) tell them to attack the enemy units. It's like they just attack first enemy thing they see and it really messes up some rushes I try to do.

    I dunno, I feel like I didn't have this problem until the last month or two. Maybe it's just me clicking wrong?

    Is this just me or has anyone else noticed this?

    as some of you may or may not know, i like to design my own build orders, as it both feels awesome when i make one that works well, and it makes me feel MUCH more justified when i make a youtube video on it if its a strategy i designed myself, even if the general strategy idea has already been thought of

    (for example, even though marines strategy is already a thing for the USA, MY version of the marines strategy is something i have no problem showing off in my videos, even moreso since it's honestly the strongest marine varient out there until i see one that proves otherwise)

    im trying to workshop a new Azzy strat, and need some ideas. strategies i already have made and/or have a video on my channel for include:

    Skull knights (has video)

    eagle runner FF (has video)

    scout rush (designed and tested, but unsuccessful due to a build limit that didn't exist in TAD)

    age 2 beefy explorer + jaguar prowlers (designed and tested, had some success but only in some team games, has room for improvement)

    support/ally (one of the most hillarious builds ive ever made that KINDA worked but not really, only if the enemy wasn't taking you seriously)

    fast industrial into revolt that changes your war hut units into noble huts (concept is there, but the shipment costs 6K resources and was impractical and took far too long)

    so... what else do you guys think i should do?

    do you think i should try and refine the the age 2 jag strat, or work on something new? have any BO ideas you'd love to see but never got around to actually designing yourself?

    Frame Drops, help

    I have an okay laptop, 8gb ram, nvidia gtx 1650 Graphics card, and amd ryzen 5 3550H processor. Still, my game consistently drops frames and lags. I tested in single player so network latency is out of the question. And I tested with almost lowest possible graphics settings as well but the problem remains. I now have switched back to the optimal game settings as shown in geforce experience because it does not matter even if I toggle my graphics settings to lowest. Any help is appreciated.

    Is the game seriously this badly optimized?
