The campaign civilizations have always been placeholders, like the Knights of St. John using a not-even-reskinned Spanish civilization, complete with Spanish voice lines. You use Hussars and Highlanders. We have a Maltese civ.

The various 'United States' civs are just altered British civs, complete with 'Imperial Redcoats' as the musketeer upgrade. Especially obvious in Steel and Shadow where the US was already well-established. We have a US civ.

The Mexican army in Steel is the most egregious, being that they're white spaniards with swords-and-buckler men and crossbows...in 1800. We have a Mexican civ.

AOE3's campaign is just such a great thing to play through, if not for the fact that we're using reskinned placeholders all the way. And now that there's an actual Maltese civilization, I'm afraid that ES will still not do anything to update the campaign civs. The least they can do is to allow people who own the dlc to use the custom civilization in the campaign. I can't be playing Blood now knowing that there's a fully-built Knights civilization in the same bloody game that is somehow not applied properly.

Are we ever going to get that update, or will a mod be able to fix it?

Coming with the next dlc. Naturally forming allies, attacking as a team then betraying are what I love to do in aoe2 and in the civ games
