Top 10 Civs for Surviving the Coronavirus Epidemic Posted: 13 Mar 2020 11:51 AM PDT The recent coronavirus outbreak is causing a huge shake-up to the AOE2 meta just days before the start of Hidden Cup 3. So far, though, I've seen shockingly little discussion about what civs will be best for defeating the coronavirus, or at least surviving it. With no Spirit of the Law video on the horizon and Viper distracted by Portuguese Fast Imp experiments, I figured that I, a humble 1100 Elo campaign warrior, would shoulder the burden of producing the first coronavirus civ ranking. Before getting to the top 10, I thought I'd name a few F-tier civs: Goths: Goths may have become way more viable (and annoying) in Update 35584, but don't worry Goth haters, in the coronavirus patch, they're easily dead last. No stone walls and generally terrible defensive techs mean they won't be able to effectively quarantine. Their pop cap bonus and fast infantry production is a guaranteed way to have high unit density, too, which will allow the virus to spread with impunity. Inca: 10 population houses might be a solid bonus in the old game, but in the coronavirus game, it's a death sentence. Inca villagers won't have proper social-distancing , and much like a Leitis, the coronavirus bypasses armor, so blacksmith upgrades will be useless. Huns: What's as bad as overcrowded houses? No houses at all! Hun villagers will be staying outside. That means more infections, and their terrible monastery won't be able to keep up either. Those are the worst civs, in my opinion. Now, to the top 10: 10. Malay Infinite fish traps are a huge advantage. The Malay will never have to worry about running low on food no matter how long the epidemic lasts. Faster age-ups also mean they can hit the Castle Age quickly for rapid access to healing monks and other important technologies. These bonuses would easily make them a top 5 civ on this list, but they're battling against a huge downside: Karambit Warriors. A half-pop spam unit means more units running around, which means more density and more infections. It's not insurmountable, but it definitely keeps them from rising higher on this list. 9. Malians Permanently beating the coronavirus is going to require a heroic effort by scientists, and the Malians are perfectly poised for that with their faster-working universities. 8. Chinese The Chinese have the game's most impenetrable quarantines, thanks to their Great Wall tech. Cheaper techs across the board will give them flexibility for researching a cure at the university or upgrading health care workers at the Monastery. 7. Mayans Like the Malay, a civ very well-positioned to outlast the virus as it ravages society. Longer-lasting resources mean they can hold out longer under lockdown conditions. Cheaper walls mean they can throw up more quarantine zones to keep the virus contained. 6. Turks Understandably, Chemistry is one of the most important techs for developing a coronavirus vaccine, and only the Turks get it for free. They also have the game's fastest gold miners, which help them pump out monks to treat sick people. 5. Aztecs +5 villager carry capacity is an excellent eco boost in the normal game, and it may be even more powerful here. Being able to carry more resources means fewer trips to Town Centers and other social spaces, while the +5 monk HP bonus means their monks will be able to treat people far longer without succumbing to the disease themselves. 4. Lithuanians In one word, monasteries. The Lithuanians have the fastest-working ones in the game, and they're getting access to them super-quickly thanks to their +150 food. Faster monasteries means stronger monks, and more of them, earlier, and as we've already seen in Italy, overall health care capacity is a critical factor for coping with coronavirus. 3. Khmer Now we're into seriously strong territory. When I first started working on this list, Khmer were #1. They dropped a bit as I thought about things more, but there is still a massive gap between the top 3 civs and everyone else. First off, Khmer don't have to drop off food from Farms. That means their workers can gather food indefinitely without ever having to visit drop-off sites where the virus could spread. That bonus alone would be enough for the top 5, but in addition to that, Khmer can self-isolate in houses. That's the single strongest bonus in the game, and it's only the sheer number of options for the next two civs that keep the Khmer from the top. 2. Spanish Where to begin? The Spanish easily have the most bonuses they're bringing into play, and they're ready for every path the coronavirus could take. Faster-building villagers mean they can build their quarantine zones the fastest. Supremacy means their villagers are the healthiest and far less likely to die to the virus. They have a full monastery tech tree, AND missionaries, who can travel quickly to the hardest-hit areas. And last of all, if coronavirus causes a general collapse of the world economy, they're ready for that too, with the only fully-upgraded trash roster in the game (and getting those upgrades costs no gold!). 1. Teutons The undisputed champion. This may surprise you, since the higher garrison space in towers and Town Centers seems like a hindrance (and it is). But the Teutons have a triple-whammy of power that more than offsets that, and carries them all the way to the top. First, all their units resist conversion. Sure, you may think that keeps them from converting religions, but it also delays them converting from clean to infected. On top of that, Teuton monks can heal at 2x range, which means they can treat people without getting the virus themselves. And lastly, of course, Teutons have free Herbal medicine. That's the single best bonus in the game, and is easily enough to slot the plucky Germans at #1. Hope this was helpful for everyone! You could definitely debate the exclusion of Byzantines with their 2x heal speed or Portuguese with their cheaper monks, but this is the list I decided on. Again, I'm just a middling player myself, so I'm open to comments and critiques. [link] [comments]

Noob question regarding unit agression. Posted: 14 Mar 2020 04:36 AM PDT So, I started practicing scout rush BO. And I noticed that when enemy try to catch my scouts with spearmans and I evade him, sometimes when I click on enemy unit (archer or vill) some of my scouts turn around and try to attack spearman. Why is that happening and how to avoid such behaviour? [link] [comments]

Any way to allow further zooming out without increasing resolution? Posted: 14 Mar 2020 06:50 AM PDT In 1080p, for me the game is too zoomed in. It prevents me from getting the overview I want. But I've noticed that the zoom level increases at higher resolution. So I can "fix" this by forcing my desktop resolution to something higher, which will downscale to my monitor. However this is kinda inconvenient as I'll have to go into my settings and change it (with all the weird side effects in windows this implies). Is there any way to force a resolution in only AOE:DE? I've enabled the Nvidia DSR setting, but still only see normal resolutions in the game. Maybe even better, is there any setting to increase the max zoom as a setting in the game? Ideally the developers should make the zoom level based on in-game distances and not screen pixels :/ This gives an unfair advantage based on what hardware a player owns. [link] [comments]
The choice mission for the Cumans Posted: 14 Mar 2020 05:37 AM PDT When you pick either to help Hungary or Bulgaria, which one did you guys pick? [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 Mar 2020 08:33 AM PDT Do you guys know why I cannot see chat in 1v1 games in ranked MM? That was something that just worked a month ago. I also I am unable to see any Lobbies in the Browser. [link] [comments]
Chat filter is getting more and more ridiculous Posted: 13 Mar 2020 08:00 PM PDT 11 is now filtered, and many other in game tuants, I don't get it. It's causing the game to freeze and crash a lot for me. I really hate it. I think we need an option to turn it off. [link] [comments]
Spam units are way to overpowered. Posted: 14 Mar 2020 08:25 AM PDT Every game in 1vs1, 2v2 i end up basically fighting spam units non stop and its making the game really boring. really makes playing civs that cant go onager really hard. [link] [comments]

Posted: 13 Mar 2020 07:37 PM PDT Often at 200 pop I might need trebs but have units q'ed all over and need to select each building Un-qing to get pop space. Is there a way to mass "un-q"? [link] [comments]

I'm just starting this game, as a former AoM/League player I would like some pointers. Posted: 13 Mar 2020 07:29 PM PDT I've played AoM at a 19/2k level for about 10 years now, and have reached masters in LoL. I am now tired of these games and AoE DE seems like a very nice game with a lot better community than the aforementioned two. I would like some pointers on what makes this game different from specifically age of mythology series. So far this game seems a lot harder, I've started off 8-1 in the ranked games and I struggle in each one to figure out what I'm suppose to do. I would like to find some people to play with maybe that can accelerate my learning, or just know what you guys think the best move is in order to learn the game as quickly as possible? Thank you! Games with campaigns like AOE2's? Posted: 13 Mar 2020 09:55 PM PDT Hi. I was rethinking back to when I played the AoK and Conquerors campaigns, and I realized no other game ever provided such interesting historical campaigns as this one. The closest I've seen are missions from Call of Duty Games and Assassins Creed, but they really don't compare to the experience of AOE2. Any thoughts (apart from other Age of Empires games, of course). Thank you! [link] [comments]
