    The current review average on Steam is "mixed," largely, it seems, from people complaining about inane non-gameplay things like the name-changes for indigenous peoples, buildings, and terms.

    I get that it's not a perfect game. There are still bugs, pathing issues, occasional connection problems, AI could be better, and so on. But it's a dramatic improvement over the original on most of those elements too, and doesn't deserve being hated on just for a few non-gameplay elements that from a corporate standpoint likely had to be made if we wanted an updated game at all.

    So, for those of you actually playing and enjoying the game, go give it a thumbs up to counteract all the people not playing it because they refunded after reading the opening message about the Lakota and Haud... (googles how to spell)... Haudenosaunee

    One very weird stylistic change that's hard to ignore once you realize it; every building in DE uses comparatively fewer stones/bricks/shingles/logs/whatever than in the original game, making every building appear smaller and less significant

    I wish Xfire was still around to see how much time I had logged but I remember playing this game in middle/high school. After work today, firing up the game and hearing the theme made me feel super nostalgic. Sunk about 8 hours into the campaign and messing around some comp stomp games with friends.

    10/10, the bugs are minor, the gameplay is great, and the QoL changes plus new civs are awesome.

    Back in the original AoEIII, something that always annoyed the hell out of me was not being able to customize home cities of native (ik some don't have cities as much as tribal councils) and Asian civs and tbh I did expect the DE to add customization to them; and I've been really disappointed to not have this option.

    Don't get me wrong, I have been playing DE non-stop since it was done downloading and I have to admit I'm loving it. I know it's just a small thing, but I really would have loved DE to feature home-city customization for non-European civs. Guess customizing Beijing, Cuzco or Tenochtitlan is still a dream.

    Before complaining about changes to Native civs - please read this.

    I've seen a lot of hate getting thrown around about the devs trying to improve the representation of the Lakota and Haudenausaunee Peoples in AOE3 DE to be more authentic.

    Anyone who is frustrated about these changes please consider that negative or unthoughtful representation of Indigenous People's in North American media is a huge problem that causes real life harm to living breathing humans whose life experience differs from yours.

    If you're not a member of these communities, perhaps take some time to consider something that is trivial and annoying for you, is a massive problem that leads to negative mental health outcomes and suicide for others.

    Any steps that can be made towards ending 500 years of racism and exclusion of Indigenous Peoples from North American society are worth supporting, even if they're something seemingly as innocuous as a name change.

    Hakkapelit still doesnt say "Hakkaa päälle!" when attacking, ignoring Finnish military cultural history

    DE is supposed to have "replaced inaccurate depictions and created new voiceovers using authentic speakers".

    Still unit Hakkapelit/Hackapell doesn't say "Hakkaa päälle!" ("Cut them down!") when attacking. This is very disrespectful towards Finnish history and ignoring the whole point of the name "Hakkapeliitta". When historically Hakkapelit army was charging towards enemy, their battlecry was "Hakkaa päälle!", so they should be depicted correctly in the game too!

    If Microsoft wants to show respect to different cultures, it should treat all cultures equally. Now Finnish history is totally neglected.
