    Day/night cycle

    Posted: 06 Oct 2020 12:55 AM PDT

I just read on several comments in FB that the game had a day night cycle on custom maps. I've been playing this game since the year it came out and I don't remember having it. They said that you had to activate it in the settings or something like that. Anyone knows anything about it?

We are making a RTS survival game also inspired by AoE3 and we need your help!

    Posted: 05 Oct 2020 06:10 AM PDT

    Hey AoE3 fans,

we are a team of game developer students at Breda University working on a RTS survival game, currently in the concepting phase. We have AoE2 & AoE3, They Are Billions and Stronghold as our main reference games and inspiration for different mechanics.

Our idea is to set it in the 13th century, during a specific conflict that happened back then. We also would like your help in order to get some insight on your experience with the genre.

Your contribution is going to help us shape our project by understanding better your personality (related to the RTS genre), needs & motivations. The survey takes about 3~5 minutes to complete.

    Link to the Survey

It is completely anonymous, but there's an option at the end to leave us your e-mail, in case you want to stay up to date with the development until the final Steam release.

Thanks a lot in advance, we will greatly appreciate any feedback and I'll try to answer any question you have.

    Best regards,

    Knutto (UI/UX & Lead Designer)

Definitive Edition Poll Civillizations Wishlist Results

    Posted: 05 Oct 2020 03:00 AM PDT

Greetings everybody, a week ago I created a poll which decides what new civillizations people want added in ''AOE 3: DE'' after the Incas and Swedes. The results I agree with, here they are below.

We got a total of 675 votes. However bear in mind I didn't include any African civillizations as I specifically stated that those deserve a new and separate expansion pack all to themselves.

1.Italians (182 votes)- this huge country which existed and is a powerhouse since the times of the Roman empire and represents the Mediterranean region still hasn't been included. Hoping that Microsoft sees this and listens to us so that we can have this and the next three cultures added.

2.United States (143 votes)- this is one of the youngest countries, yet it's one of the strongest even to this day. Would be cool if we could play in the USA's early colonial history plus this is the only time in the AOE series where the non-native Americans have appeared.

3.Safavid Persians (117 votes)- this would probably be the fourth Asian Dynasties civillization in the game which would represent the Near East given how many votes have been submitted.

4.Austro-Hungarians (115 votes)- having almost as many votes as the previous civillization, this central European country would be a great addition though personally I don't want anymore European civillizations, so I am hoping this along with the Italians and USA would be the last three.

5.Timurid Mongols (66 votes)- while I wanted a fourth Asian civillization, I think that the Mongol descendants would drop out in favor of the Persians who would cover near eastern Asia.

6.Other (52 votes)- we got plenty of interesting ideas- Soth East Asian (Burmese, Siamese, Malay) , Pacific Islands (Oceania, Hawaii, Maori, etc), Korea, Tibet, Poland, Latin American (Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay), Prussia, Middle-Eastern (Uzbeks, Abyssinians, Mamluks), Denmark or Norway and others. However some of these overlap with either pre-existing cultures or ones in this poll and so they would be redundant, plus we already have plenty of European cultures (though the Italians and Austro-Hungarians would be cool). Wish that I could somehow send this to Microsoft so that they would include the four cultures with the most votes (Italians, USA, Safavid Persians and Austro-Hungarians) in the game, after which we deserve to get the long awaited sub-saharan African tribe expansion pack.

    A couple of thoughts

    Posted: 05 Oct 2020 06:46 PM PDT

I've been keeping an eye on the community lately and beyond the discussion of weather or not the developers should or should not make changes on (some very specific) civs, the reaction to people who criticize, has really disappointed me and even worries me.

There seems to be an enormous amount of ignorance regarding history and people are just willing to jump into the train, call things offensive left and right, downvoting and eating everything Microsoft is throwing at them because ''they got an expert''. Beyond questioning the credentials of a linguist (who was consulted because he is a celebrity token) or a consultant that does not has his studies named anywhere in the interviews/ blogs, being not quite the native historian one might have assumed at first glance, I think that the eagerness of people to believe everything a corporation tells them, is problematic.

With this I want to zoom in on the the fire pit being removed by the community plaza. Besides any esthetic issues I may have with it (mainly that it is entirely generic and boring looking; they might have as well gone with a personalized council for each civ if they had done their homework), what shocks me is that people are so ready to assume that having natives dancing in the game, is offensive.

My opinion is, that having the preconception that dancing is tribal and in some way lesser (hence the offense I'm guessing), is incredibly ignorant, Eurocentric, actually offensive and willingfully blinded to see some incredibly beautiful cultural expressions of humanity.

So here are some examples of what we've been missing:

    Haudenosaunee dance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22uBV7dJbP4

    Inca dance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRlqp1pWOks

    Aztec dance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsLw5jm9Zrc

    Lakota dance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pN4BwM1FDwI&t=264s

Yes I have a lot of free time in my hands and this is mainly a rant to blow off steam from my frustration on a lot of members of the community, I'm not expecting much out of it other than that. If it makes you reconsider history and the biases we as humans in the midst of modernity, value and look down upon then cool too.
