    Jerusalem throughout history

This is a set of reconstruction of the city of Jerusalem in various times of its history showing its gradual evolution from the times of king David till the time of the Crusades.

    During King David

    https://preview.redd.it/isfo182ivj261.jpg?width=5892&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1a327b453afa9a8bc19d835c010b49b75f39a6a6

Then a small city with no memorable structures besides maybe David's palace. This portion of the city will be known as the city of David. Today it lies outside the Old City walls

    During king Solomon

    https://preview.redd.it/a7ekk8luvj261.jpg?width=5892&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=190166b6c47113ac4737c67dd08ace2d4695cf6d

Solomon famously constructed the First Temple on Mount Moriah. The temple was destroyed by the Babylonians

During king Nehemiah around 410 BCE

    https://preview.redd.it/u4xv1rufwj261.jpg?width=5892&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=49bf5db17d9a292146ca479dd2bb010e3261bec0

At this time under the Achaemenid Persian rule the Second temple has already been built and the city began to expand beyond the city of Solomon

Under the Hasmoneans around 100 BCE

    https://preview.redd.it/1tl7buuwwj261.jpg?width=5892&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ad5b674beefefc5e92606e17a57f883e2198faed

Under the new dynasty the upper city expanded as the Jewish kingdom was increasing in power. A large Hellenistic era fort called Baris was constructed adjacent the Temple mount and would serve as the city's main fortification

Under king Herod around 1 CE

    https://preview.redd.it/8aglbvglxj261.jpg?width=5892&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e768345e9abdf6b2b49321899f7f2be3ddc35b06

King Herod the Great greatly rebuilt the city adding Greco-Roman elements, like a theatre and a hippodrome. He rebuilt the Baris fort and named it after Marc Anthony, his patron. But most famously he greatly expanded the Temple mount and rebuilt the Second temple in a more lavish form adding a huge basilica to its right.

Right before the destruction under Titus 65 CE

    https://preview.redd.it/m81j0rr5yj261.jpg?width=5892&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9f37babed3883c5420427cb4ee12e2086fbe6667

Not long before it was razed to the groung by the legions of Titus the city was further expanded by adding a new wall for the so called New city. Notably the Golgotha ended up in the city limits after this.

Under the Byzantine around 600 CE (please note from here on the map is turned 90 degrees anticlockwise)

    https://preview.redd.it/hlewggljyj261.jpg?width=5892&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7cc060b6264fe5120a84d95caf1362f96947d4f0

At this point the Temple mount is abandoned and used as a dump. Two great cardos (main roads) dissect the city. Towards the right corner stands the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and towards the left corner the huge Nea Church that was 100 meters long. It was razed by the Persian in 614 when they took Jerusalem

Under the Arabs around 1000 CE

    https://preview.redd.it/ya3yxh9azj261.jpg?width=5892&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e3bce05e2abc045ccd68b2893392f0d5377e80fd

Jerusalem was captured by caliph Umar in 637. After that the Temple mount was made holy once more and the Al-Aqsa mouse along with Dome of the rock were erected there.

Under the Crusaders around 1180 CE

    https://preview.redd.it/82xs6iszzj261.jpg?width=5892&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f71cf63a9c5239499eb08fe41b3d1dd3e7d583d7

At this point the outlines of the city are more or less similar to the current Old city wall (though these were erected under Suleiman I). Most noticeably Eudocia's wall to the west collapsed during the 1033 earthquake and the city shrunk a bit with the church of the Holy Zion ending up outside the city walls.

Turks should really have steppe lancers instead of cavaliers

Turks should really have steppe lancers instead of cavaliers

When AoK released only heavy horse cav option was the knight line so Turks got cavalier which made sense back in the time. But since the release of central asian Khanates they have added steppe lancers which fits way better into turkish roster. Historicly Turks never employed knights but they empoyed Sipahis, in the game they are represented as the castle tech giving bonush hp to cav archers, which is some what accurate. Yet as the steppe lancers exist i see no reason for Turks to not have it in exchange for the cavalier.

wikipage for anyone interested in how they are formed, pretty interesting story i must say: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sipahi

    few examples of sipahis:

Recent Civ buff that's flying under the radar: Vietnamese

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 05:46 PM PST

Vietnamese have gone from bottom tier to top tier for a lot of pros since the last patch. They have a solid tech tree, with a full blacksmith except blast furnace, solid arbalests, solid skirmishers and trash, serviceable cavalry for castle age knights, late game light cav raids, and elephants on arena, solid siege with BBC and Siege engineers, one of the best unique units in the game, and a solid eco bonus.

They've had all of this before the patch, though. In fact, they've been unchanged for several patches now. What's changed?

Their units don't shout anymore. They speak at normal volumes. They can be played much less annoyingly. Playing with Vietnamese used to test the patience of some pros, but no longer.

If you think you knew the power of Vietnamese before, you'll be seeing it a lot more often now.

    boars hiding behind walls

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 09:35 PM PST

I've had numerous times on arena where my own walls are obscuring my boar. Is there a gaia model outline mod or something else I can do to deal with this type of issue? I really don't want to have to use small walls or monster boar mods if I can avoid it.

If I want to engage with an enemy army, should I right click any unit in the enemy army and my units will be smart, should I patrol walk into them? What do stances do?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 01:14 AM PST

I feel like my units get distracted by buildings, or do random things in general. What stances are more useful?

Best strategy for a free for all/royale style game?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 05:50 AM PST

My friends and I mostly play casually, we never dare set foot into online matchmaking, and the most favoured gametype for us to play is a 5+ player free for all. No teams, not treaties, just everyone versus eachother. If we do have teams, it's always 2v2v2+, which in my mind is still a free for all to an extent.

What I'm wondering is, what's the best way to play FFA's like this? I'm usually a very aggressive player, and I'm more than capable of wiping out 2-3 people. Where I run into an issue is, nobody else is willing to fight eachother. They just wait for me to come attack them. By the time I'm finished with my 3rd to 4th player, I'm shit out of resources, and incapable of putting up any more of a fight.

I try selling my excess food and wood, but it's never really enough. If nobody else is willing to fight eachother, and I have to take out everyone, what's the best way to play for this?

AoE II DE soundtrack playlist setting

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 01:24 AM PST

Hello, in the DE in the settings menu there is a setting, "playlist soundtrack", which lets you choose which playlist to play, choosing between Classic, Default, and others. "Classic" it says it will play the original soundtrack of the old game, but nowhere on the web I found anyone mention this, I only read about DE not including original soundtrack. So I'm asking, what does it mean "classic" in this settings? Does it play the old soundtrack playlist of the original game?
