I have played AOE a lot when I was younger and put in about 500 hours on the new AOE2 editions when they came out on steam (ik rookie numbers lol)

I tried AOE3 on the Xbox game pass in the hype of AOE4 and after playing a few games, I feel it's more casual. Much more chill and simpler compared to AOE2, that game was hectic for me.

Villagers don't need to drop off goods at the designated mines etc, farms don't expire, armies tend to be a little smaller, there aren't a 1000 trade carts or cogs on the map, I like the 3D visual.

One annoying thing are the treasures but besides that I seem to enjoy this one more. This post doesn't mean anything, just wanted to put it out there. I have fallen in love with AOE3 but I wish it was more active. I also understand that both these games have evolved differently and are right for different people, neither is superior or inferior objectively, depends only on the person playing. Both these games hold a very special place in my heart since i was 8 years old and i hope AOE4 can meet our expectations. Wolololo!

And don't go on telling me "But Pudge, I always get teamed up on!" Because

A. You know you do that too when the opportunity arises, and

B. That's all part of it. Strategically using your biggest enemies time of weakness to your advantage is great

Even when I am the one suffering the ire of everyone else, I've got to give them credit for seizing the moment.

It's fun to play the diplomatic angle, and the chaos is great.

Not to mention, the folks who play these games really seem in it for the fun, and I've not noticed too much toxicity and noob bashing. Heck, most of the time there's an agreement among the strong to protect the noobiest player.

Anyway, give it a try. These games slap.
