    New revolutionary state: Greece

    Posted: 26 Dec 2021 01:04 PM PST

Today, I was thinking on a specific era and a specific timeline - the Balkan of the 19th century. I have grown the idea to represent that in the game. The idea of Balkan League would have been fine, but it was a former alliance, not a proper federation. So I picked one of the allied nations - the Greeks:

    Revolting nation: Ottomans
    Revolting to: Greece

    Revolutionary cards:

    • Infinite cards:
      • Revolutionaries - ships 16 Revolutionaries
      • Refugee Janissaries - ships 8 Janissaries
      • Cretan Support - ships 2 Galleys
      • Border Support - ships 2 Outpost Wagons, increases the Outpost build limit by 2
    • One-time use cards:
      • Citizenship - ships 6 Settlers, Settlers can be trained in Town Centers for 70 Gold
      • Currant Season - ships a Crate of 100 Food for every House built (up to 20)
      • Bavarian Bureaucracy - ships 5 Skirmishers, allows to train Skirmishers at your Barracks (including upgrades up to Guard)
      • Mountain Warfare - increases the range and the hitpoints of rifle units, decreases the train time of infantry units
        • Janissary: HP +10%
        • Janissary: range +2
        • Nizam Fusilier: HP +10%
        • Nizam Fusilier: range +2
        • Skirmisher: HP +10%
        • Skirmisher: range +2
        • Infantry: training time -20%
      • Cretan Revolution - ships 3 Galleys, increases the Galley build limit by 3
      • Border Control - Settlers in Outposts can increase the ranged attack 3 by (up to 5 Settlers)

I would focus on a few possible questions as well:

    1. Q: Why the new revolutionary nation?
A: Because I see some relevancy and potential in it.
    2. Q: Why are there Skirmishers, when there are Abus Guns and Grenadiers already as anti-infantry units?
A: The personal answer is that I love the infantry type and - therefore - Skirmishers. I wanted to add a new unit from Germany, and this is, what I have come up with. (The card reflects to the ruledom Otto I of Greece, originally as a Bavarian prince.)
But I can be persuaded that it's pointless, and it could be replaced by:
Danish Forces - ships 5 Halberdiers, allows to train Halberdiers at your Barracks (including upgrades up to Guard) (It reflects to the ruledom of George I of Greece, originally as a Danish prince.)
    3. Q: Why the rifle upgrades?
A: I was thinking on increasing the food harvesting or modifying the unit costs to the favor of Food, but I dropped those ideas because of the possibility to make something overpowered. So this is, what is left from that brainstorming.
    4. Q: Why the extra Galleys?
A: Well, I wanted to make something unique. Galleys are specific at the Ottomans, and Galleys aren't that strong, so the build limit wouldn't hurt much.

This is a fanmade concept, and a pretty early one as well. It doesn't count with balancing things, multiplayer metas or anything at all.
Criticism is appreciated in a cultured manner. I would like to learn from the feedback.

I made the same discussion post on Steam a few hours ago:

I'm mentioning this to avoid confusion / the accusation of idea theft from somebody else.

Does anybody here uses mercenaries for real? (Without using merc friendly civs like swedes or inca)

I usually play as spain and portugal and the pop space that mercs have plus the slow creation time makes them useless imo.

    AI question

    Posted: 26 Dec 2021 09:22 AM PST

    Hi everyone,

Are there any recommendations for mods to make the AI more 'intelligent'? My friends and I who play together have noticed that the AI does a lot of stupid stuff and that even on the hardest difficulty the game is not very challenging.
