    It's T90! Ask Me Anything!

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 11:52 AM PDT

I'm T90, AoE2 Caster, lover of salmon, and I placed Khmer farms before it was cool. It's been two years since I've done an AMA on this subreddit and I figured there was no better time than now since Hidden Cup 3 will be here March 19th-22nd. Hidden Cup 3 will have the largest 1v1 prizepool in nearly 20 years with players competing with hidden identities. There will be guessing competitions, giveaways, special videos, and more I can't really talk about right now. With so much coming I'm sure you guys might have some unanswered questions!

I'll be answering questions here til 17GMT on Saturday. Whether you have questions about Hidden Cup 3, Casting, Gameplay, or IRL send them my way. I'll be doing my best to answer you guys and the awesome HC3 admin u/robo_boro will chip in from time to time when necessary!

Making Huns Atheism reduce Relic Gold Income

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 11:28 PM PDT

Hun UT is arguably absolutely worthless in 999 out of 1000 games and i feel like theyre not as absolutely dominating as they used to be, so maybe its time to give them an Imp UT effect? 11

If it reduced the enemies relic gold income by 10-25%, itd be worth getting in situations where youre in a relic disadvantage and know its gonna be a long game. Hun trash isnt very breathtaking and theres definitely still waaaay stronger trashwar civs, but thisd give them a niche in 1v1 matches or very relic heavy maps

    Would you agree to this?

Saracen Market Strategy Tip and it's legendary creator Doug Thompson

    Posted: 13 Mar 2020 02:01 AM PDT

Recently, in another post I linked an old forumfrom 2001 about Doug Thompson, who, from what I can tell is essentially the originator of the Saracen market strategy or whatever it's best called. It's a very interesting read for anyone who's interested in some old AoK players discussing strategy.

One thing I noticed in this particular threadthough, that I don't know if anybody has tried is that he suggests that you can also cost efficiently buy 400 wood in addition to the 1500 food that people normally buy in this strategy. This I think is significant, as he elaborates in the thread, because it not only increases efficiency even further but also helps let you make the additional mining camp for gold and, even more significantly, make the transition into farming, which I think is the hardest part of the strategy. Often, I think players such as myself hold off on transitioning to farming too late (I even saw Viper do this in Gold Rush), causing food problems later in the game. I think it also even helps with Saracen market booming which goal is to try to get to Castle as quickly as possible using the market to build TC's sooner as well as save a bunch of wood from not having to build farms until you get Horse Collar or maybe even Heavy Plow.

I'm not a mathy person or a great player though, so I can't really verify his claims, but I have no reason to doubt him as he's the one who came up with the idea in the first place. What do you guys think?

Are there any community/clan groups that play regularly?

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 09:23 PM PDT

I know Ive seen a post like this in the last couple of weeks so I apologize for asking again.

Im not great at this game yet (started about 3 months ago) but I enjoy playing a lot, especially with people! Ive been playing ranked a bit and I definitely like the team games better. Does anyone know any groups that accept noobs?

    [Suggestion] Tatars Rebalance

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 02:02 PM PDT

Team bonus: Cavalry Archers +2 line of sight.

    Herdables contain 50% more food.

Units do 50% more damage when attacking from higher elevation instead of 25% more.

    Parthian Tactics is free.

    Thumb Ring is free.

Trebuchet cost is reduced by 20% (or something around this).

Silk Armor: Scout Cavalry and Cavalry Archers get +0/+1.

Silk Armor: All cavalry and Cavalry Archers get +0/+1.

    Timurid Siegecraft: Trebuchets +1 range.

I'm torn on this one as I think there are a few different options, so I'll put them out there; and obviously I'd like to hear other suggestions for their imperial unique tech.

Siege workshop units deal +25% damage to buildings (obviously can tweak the amount).

Cavalry gets +2 attack (I realise this is shitty Farimba, so I'm not a big fan of a bonus like this).

Maybe increased projectile speed for mangonels/scorpions/trebuchets?

    My reasoning is as follows:

The herdables food bonus is great, but they're lacking other bonuses outside of the inconsistent hill bonus. 2 of their bonuses (free Parthian and that awful unique imp tech) don't work until imperial. That's a big gap of not much; and while Silk Armor is decent, I felt like it wasn't enough to make them anything special in castle age.

Free Parthian Tactics comes so late and only takes 65 seconds to research. It's a good upgrade, but you don't need free imperial age techs. Thumb Ring costs food in the castle age where it's at a premium, and most high level players hold off on getting Thumb Ring because of this. This gives you a small eco bonus in castle age, makes a CA rush easier, and makes sense historically because the thumb ring was invented in Asia which would have spread westward thanks to the Mongols. Free Parthian Tactics makes equal sense historically, but that's a terribly weak bonus.

Trebuchets are cheaper hasn't been done as far as I'm aware, and it fits perfectly with the Tatar spam gold units strategy. It's not a bonus that will always come into play as many games end before imperial, but it'll save you some gold (and wood) to make more trebs or CA. If 20% is too much, it could be 15% or even 10%.

Silk Armor felt oddly restrictive, and it's not like Tatar knights are crazy as is. It also felt weird for their unique unit not to get the bonus, but I understand if this with the other changes is too much. At least give it to the Keshiks.

Imperial age unique tech: Their current one is the worst unique tech in the game, and I felt like a trebuchet or siege workshop bonus made sense; so I wanted that to be a passive since the hill bonus isn't something you can count on reliably.

Share your thoughts, and let me know if you think I missed something.

    How to deal with picks?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2020 03:05 AM PDT

Guys, imagine that you have a Civ Cav (Slavs, Huns, Franks, Magyars, Cumans, etc) and you decide to go Knights in Castle Age. But, later on, you see that enemy has pikeman. What do you do?

    a) Your own piks to fight against his piks

    b) Archers

    c) Skirmish

    d) Scorpions

    e) Militia Line

    f) Another answer

I always have this doubt. I don't know what is the best counter, i mean, the best cost effective counter.

Is this a bug? Ruining games right now.

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 02:33 PM PDT

You run in with hussars and you right click to attack a specific unit and they just attack whatever they're close to. Really annoying against halb/skirm spam as you rush the skirms but they just go and attack the halbs. It wasn't like this in aoe2 HD.

    Beneficial mods for ranked

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 01:53 PM PDT

Just wondering about mods that are useful for ranked play in DE. I've just found out about the small trees mod (no more pesky holes in my walls!) and was wondering if there are any others.

Hi, i'm a player who only play AI for fun, but lately i'm trying to play a PvP. What are your advices for me? (Forgive my english, i'm from Arg)

    Posted: 12 Mar 2020 02:40 PM PDT

I know a little bit of everything, eco, military, strategy, tactics, Macro and Micro. But i don't know how much or how little i know to play some PvP. I know that the hardest step is the first one. But i'd like to hear some tips from u. What AI should i at least beat with no problem? Play with a lot of civs or with only one? First start at 1v1 or TG? It's necessary to learn all the tactics perfectly? like FC, trush, srush, etc. I tried to find some post like this but i can't find it, so, if some post answers this questions, can u pass it to me ? Thank u, and i love this community <3
