    New players should be informed about pausing etiquette

    I'm new to multiplayer RTS games and I've been playing some ranked games on DE. I didn't realise pausing in ranked was a thing until a friend of mine who used to play a lot of starcraft and dota explained that anyone can pause the game and that it's ok to do that in an appropriate situation.

    I just thought I had been misclicking or that my internet was cutting out or something and turns out I've just been unpausing games and presumably pissing off people. They should explain the feature somewhere when you first start entering ranked maps lol.

    What a beast of a unit am I right? Just had an imperial war against Mongols and been able to wither a death stack of Elite Mangudai to nothing while simultaneously destroying the enemy's eco.

    Great UU that's also a trash unit.

    Hi, im relatively new to ranked aoe2 DE and ive seen and watch people play on the map black forest, however on my game, it isnt even and option to ban it or anything and i never get it. is it a mod? TIA

    I played AOE when I was a kid like twenty years ago. I stumbled across T90 on YouTube and started watching his videos about a year ago. That led me to download the game and start playing against the AI. I knew I could play against real people but the thought of it made me really nervous. I've played super casually since then.

    Since everyone is staying at home now, I've had a lot more free time and decided to play a little more on DE, but still against the AI. A few weeks ago I finally jumped into my first ranked match... and got crushed. I continued to get crushed until I ended up around 800 elo. That's where things started to even out for me. It was discouraging to lose so much in the beginning, but when I found my proper elo, things got more fun.

    I still felt like I wasn't doing very well so I decided to stop playing ranked for a couple weeks to practice build orders against the AI. That helped a lot. When I jumped back into ranked last week I was winning most of my matches. I've currently settled around 1000.

    Just wanted to post this for all the other people out there who only play against the AI but want to try ranked. I was super nervous to start, but I'm really glad I did. I feel like I'm playing much better and I'm having more interesting games. The AI can get predictable after a while.

    And if there's anyone out there around 1000 elo who wants to practice with me please DM me. I would love to find someone to play games with and then talk about them afterwards.

    Team hideout turtle

    Thought it would be fun to try using Byzantines to blockade one side of the map by myself and let the rest of the team bust through the other side into their economy. What would be an ideal unit composition? And should I use more castles or BBT? I was thinking of selling most of my gold for more stone to build evem more defenses and then just spam the cheap trash

    Trying to gain a audience

    Hey all,

    So I'm new to the streaming of AOE and have recently been doing a lot of it.

    Wasn't taking it that seriously but one-night Moonfaller hosted me, I got a bunch of followers and views, and all of a sudden I'm hooked on the idea of growing a community.

    I have one simple question for you.

    How can I gain your viewership (in a hypothetical situation)

    I know there is ALOT of talented streamers on AOE2 DE, and I'm only floating around the #3000 ranking so I know I'm not the next viper or anything skill-wise so I don't feel id be able to allure viewers with skill alone, so what sort of unique attributes would you like to see from a streamer that would be attractive to you.

    I'm a chatty dude so I'm pretty good at providing entertainment, but I was thinking about possibly streaming constantly and essentially documenting my improvement, and teaching what I learn to viewers.

    Maybe cast some games (No-one can be the next T90 Tho...)

    I would really appreciate any feedback on this, and I hope to someday see some of you in the stream.

    I do have a pretty cool concept going ATM where me and a friend. play ranked team games with his dad, teaching him and pushing him to improve, his an awesome guy and would be something different for everyone out there to watch, so chuck us a follow and come support him next time we play :) (pretty sure his ~ 60 years old)

    So based on a discussion about how the ability to ban 7/8 maps from the map pool would increase queue time and decrease the map pool for those banning less maps regardless I was wondering what the most popular maps to play on are. Probably I could get a more accurate measure from pulling data from the played ranked matches, but that would assume that the maps are equally distributed through the algorithm and would require some more coding. Maybe I'll do that later.

    For now here is a simple Poll:

    I just figured out that I cannot give more than 6 options, so I guess I put the reoccurring ones in, and give you an "other" option for the rest...

    Discussion about your reasons for you liking/disliking a certain map are welcome too of course :)

    Portuguese has all eco upgrades and military units costs less gold which is a lot throughout the entire game. I never see no one considering this civ when talking about eco civs
